Purified Water Goes From 'Toilet to Tap'

- In an Orange County, California, wastewater facility, 130 million gallons of potable water that would normally drain into the Pacific Ocean are purified in a three-step process each day. That purified water is added to the contents of the county's underground water basin where it waits to flow out of someone's tap. Several American cities are recycling wastewater, but California and Colorado are the only states that have approved this process for its residents.
I thought filtering out waste water to make it drinkable again was already the default thing most cities did.
No most cities in the US filter it enough to dump it somewhere.
@@arvurebantra7639 Well now that I know about this, it seems wasteful to just dump it when it can be reused. I hope this catches on in more places.
They filter it and clean it to then dump it back into the environment somewhere.
Las Vegas, NV has done this forever. Only water not recycled is the water used for watering trees/lawns
Yeah, or at least send it to large farm area’s for the animals to drink… it’s crazy that we don’t do that…
When you relize that every drop of water on this planet is the same water since water existed on this planet…..yes your drinking the same water the dinosaurs drunk lol
Drank*
@@Kendall.Marie2 yeah as in past tense…my bad ….typing in my southern accent
I think some comets and stuff sprinkled in a bit of water from time to time, so not literally every drop, but much probably.
Whatever the case, all water we use now likely works its way to the ocean, then comes back up to us in rain and such, flows through rives full of fish and who knows what and is sent to us with varying amounts of filtration and whatever. So it's all technically recycled, just in processes most people don't think about.
@@b-radtop3557 your good!
@@b-radtop3557
But that water is Purified by Nature in many Processes
Water purified by humans is not upto that level what a nature 🏞️ can do
That's why Population should be Reduced
Less Human Footprint = More Resources
Joyful Life 😊
This video is REALLY exposing the people who never paid attention in science class.
Or maybe we weren't taught about this in school.
As a German I cant believe Americans just got this.
Las Vegas has been doing this for years and years it's not really new
Singaporeans also wondering: first time?
Hab ich mir auch kurz gedacht lol, die armen Leute da :/
This news story is somewhat deceptive, this isn't a new thing in Orange County, CA, this has been done for decades. Grey water has always been used for watering landscape and it's been done since the early 90's.
Not sure why they make it sound like some new thing that was recently done.
Not new at all. Different States and Cities get water from different sources and not all use this method. This just talks about one city, not the whole country.
Another phobia unlocked:
Then never come to Germany.
Why?@@Chris.in.taiwan
😂😂
@@Chris.in.taiwan Lol I was told not to drink the tap water but I did it anyway. I never got sick from it.
@@Chris.in.taiwan what does this have to do with anything I think your jealous I have a lot of likes
"It starts with micro-filtration, then reverse osmosis, and finally, ultraviolet light."
Yeah I don't know what any of that means but I'm gonna need you to do that a good three times over before I can almost feel okay about this.
Edit: Guys I was joking. I know it's perfectly safe to drink the water and I know clean water doesn't grow on trees. I just have a bit of an obsession with contamination similar to what some people with OCD experience.
Its common practice with all water treatment plants nowadays.
Filters out all possible objects, isolates only water molecules to fully separate things once more, and then uses UV light to kill all bacteria. Regular stuff with science terms
Edit: all bottled water is bottled similarly. They just add minerals at the end too to make it healthier and have a slight taste
Well, if you knew what it means, you wouldn't be demanding..
Your current water comes from a lake or river where fish pee and poop.
Would you feel ok if you watched a montage of the entire process, like in an 80s action movie? First the consumption of foods. Then the digestion and excretion of bodily waste then taking that wastewater in your toilet and converting into cool, delicious and DRINKABLE H20.
This has been around for 20 years they’re acting like this is new
plus it's literally everywhere
@@basedsatellite I remember 20 years ago when I use to install septics we installed a few of these systems. It was called a gray water system or whatever. That was back in 03-04
Hope no one was drinking water while watching this 😂
I had to put my ice down
I'm also drinking Ice water,
My reasons for disliking drinking water just got longer. I’ll stick to drinking alcohol 😂
This is precisely why I only drink Pepsi products
Prayers for us that we all just have safe drinking and clean water in the name of Jesus, Amen. ❤
Amen
Amen
Amen
Awomen
If Jesus is going to clean the water, then humans don't need to do it.
Wow! ive never been so early to an inside edition video haha
It's truly amazing isn't it?
@@jazzymilk9996 yes lol
Las Vegas, NV has been doing this forever. The only water not recycled is the water that’s used to water tree/lawns. 90%+ water used in Las Vegas is recycled and put back into lake mead so it can be used over again.
🤢
To the people praising buying water bottles: the water in those bottles comes from the tap. And you should also look up where micro plastic is stored in the human body. You pay extra for tap water with plastic in it.
Duh
@@teresaesquivel2040 I think some people think their water is flown as ice from the Swiss Alps or something.. and that ground water, well water and spring water is collected untreated with a bucket down the mountain..
When I was younger, I used to think the shower and toilet water came from two different sources 😂😂 Then my high school science teacher informed the class that the same water is used for the shower and toilet. So many of my peers and including myself were shocked 😂 ahh I still remember that day lol
High school seems too late to find out something like this. But then again, i learned plumbing at an early age😁
@@supersteve1585I knew about this even before jr high. I just figured it out on my own. Where else would water come from In the same house?
@@LilXancheX i know, its weird that theyre people out there who actually who believe this.
Good thing I don’t drink tap water…
....????? You don't shower either? Most water is purified/sterilized so it can be reused.
do you wash your dishes?
He said drink.
Same
You might not drink it, but you bathe with it
People in the comments not realizing that the water sources they already drink from used to have fish poop in it.
No it doesn't foo
No it doesn't only if u live near the ocean 😂
@@littlebigkicker I hope you're right
I live inland. What's a fish?
@@TheMpo1986 lmao 🤣
I'm not sure I'd want to know this, but it's probably done here in the Midwest along the Mississippi River, too. I may have been drinking it for a long time & not realized it. Now, that'll be in the load of trivia already in my brain. Still, Spring Water tastes better & it's bottled without the information just learned.
Singapore has been doing this for years
singapore doesnt use it for drinking... they use it for other purpose.. cooling tower, industrial process, toilet flushing.. etc
@@victormarc5611 we do
@Panda-0183 i am building engineer.
PUB doesnt allow NEWater for potable / drinking..
@@victormarc5611 we do
It is pumped into our catchment which eventually ends up in our treatment plants and into our houses. So yes indirectly. Every drop water was poop once at least so who cares.
Highly disturbing. Never happening in my house!
When I see one of them take a sip, I’ll be convinced! 😊
Because science isn't enough for you? Where do you think most city water comes from?
@@ajspiceI don’t remember saying that, but I don’t drink tap water, so….
@@ShenitaMoore Imagine beeing proud of not drinking tap water just because you don't know how science works. 🤦♂️ Where do you think your bottled water comes from? Magic?
Yall just now learning this? They told us this in school
I thought this was already a thing everywhere in North America/Europe etc..
Jdjcifjfbfjviks. This is far from new!!!!!! These have been around for generations, please stop peddling this like it’s new technology
People just don’t want to know where their drinking water comes from. Especially when it’s coming from their toilet.
🤢 Aw hell nah this is disgusting, does this go for bottled purified water 💧 like Dasani?
Dasani is water purified from municipal waterways. You should read the bottle.
Maybe it's just me, but today's coffee tastes bad.
The water in southern California tastes terrible. I'm not saying its because it used to be sewage...but I'm just saying it tastes awful, and it left a lot of hardwater deposits on everything. I live in Northern Oregon now and the tap water here tastes great and it doesn't leave hardwater deposits.
My toilet drinking dog is so 3024
What is the world coming to
Nah I’m good. I willing to pay extra to avoid this
This is the first time you hear about this?? This is already common . You've probably been in place that has a wastewater purification plant.
@@sylvesteruchia5263 no i know about this from years and i drink straight from natural rivers with my own Water filter in between
that's great, I'm sure all the people living in drought prone areas (like California, which is where this is at) would rather just go without water than use a system that's been used by other countries for years
@@unter1103 who knows if someone went In there to take a dump at the river.
At the end of the day a filter fixes everything lol.
Now if only yall knew what was on you door handles.

Ok, just call it something else!
well the world and my life is already 💩 might as well drink it
Does it cause cancer? Like everything else in cali?
Bro I’m all for recycling waste water 100%, but maybe for something else??☠️
I prefer natures way of reusable water. The rain 😉
@teneleven2818 And where do you think that rain comes from? God? Not to mention, rain water can contain contaminants as well--ever heard of acid rain? I'd rather my water go through a specific process that uses known and tested methods for purification.
Yes that’s our water district!!! I’m so proud of them. I’ve been wanting to take a tour but they stop them during corona & it’s hard to tell if they started them back up but if they did it’s one day a month on a Tuesday which kind of sucks!😊
This is just like the NEWater (pronounced New-Water) is the brand name given to highly treated reclaimed wastewater produced by Singapore's Public Utilities Board. NEWater is produced by further purifying conventionally treated wastewater through microfiltration, reverse osmosis and ultraviolet irradiation.
Not the way to advertise this.. worst way ever.
I don’t even need to watch this video. NO!
How disgusting, thank God I have well water
This is pretty normal for you city public water drinkers. That's why I enjoy my well water.
If the water is to clean why does my water filter at home get dirty and reduce flow ? Hmm
Meanwhile Singapore done long time ago
And this is why I stick to water bottles.
This is just black plague 2 waiting to happen.
Toilet water goes in small drain. So does wash water, shower water, car wash water, runoff, and unthinkable things. Many small drains go into big drain. Big drain goes to water treatment plant. Water treatment plant water goes to river, lake, reservoir, storage. Then goes to purification plant. Then pumped to housing and stores and restaurants for drinking, washing, cooking, etc. Repeat. What you use today is consumed tomorrow in other words.
Now you know why most people pour water into filter pitchers such as Brita.
Disgusting! What ever happened to well water or fresh spring water.
This is pretty cool to see. My city Bulawayo here in Zimbabwe recycles wastewater for irrigate public parks and space. Literally one step removed to make this happen if the need arises.
Idc how many times they clean the water I’m not drinking what came out of me and strangers
Eww brother eww wats that wats that brother
I prefer to drink rain water.
Watched the magic school bus as a kid. Thoight this process was the norm in the U.S
Damn, why does this pure water tastes like urine...
I thought this was common practice? I didnt know we just dumped the water into the oceans
Seeing bubbles in any still water is a no for me lol I don’t care how clean it is
Thanks, but I’ll stick with bottled water lol
Ummmm nope 👎🏽
I doubt u ca drain 100% of the contaminates
Your water bottle water comes from the tap, not from the Swiss Alps.
If we just tap the Earths mantle(approx 12 miles down) clean, new water is created.
Im not drinking toilet water 🤢🤮
Wait. It's not a normal thing?
That's pretty F-ing gross! I would have to move lol!!!
Water treatment plants have been doing this in the US for decades.
why not tap to toilet 😭
You do know, that planet earth has recycled water for billions of years? This water treatment is just doing it faster.. but, the media got the reaction they wanted out of you..
Person who came up with it probably wipes back to front.
Make sure to purchase your home reverse osmosis water system.
hmm with a hint of chlorine

No thanks, ill stick to the well water i got out back
No Wonder my tap water stinks
This is really interesting, my father works at a water treatment facility (not one like this but it’s fairly similar)
oh no! I always knew if you flushed the toilet while running the sink in the bathroom would give you toilet water! I knew it!
This amazing but scary
Were we not doing this before? 🙃
I would hate to think the water we used to take a shower and the water in the toilet bowl they reuse as drinking water doesn’t sound too appetizing to me🤢🤢
Wait until you hear about what fish and other animals do in most water sources...
@@arvurebantra7639 yeah most people have access to well water which is 100x better without the hormones, just wait until you realize the tap water you drink has hormones and pharmaceuticals in it, which is probably why you're into unicorns and furries.
Well thats what it is. And thats how its been since you were a kid. Sorry you had to find out this way
Yes a furry and highlighter hair has to remind you how great it's working on them. Btw many people have well water where there aren't hormones in the water .
@@Squad44ICOhappened Ah yes... unfiltered well water. Well water that can still be affected by the contaminants that may be in the area. Areas with a lot of farmland, the wells may be affected by pesticides. Oh and bacteria can still grow in such places.
