How Cops Are Cracking Down on Shoplifting at Stores

- “Retail blitz” is a police operation aimed to crackdown on shoplifting and big box store thefts. Officers in Henderson, NV and Los Angeles invited Inside Edition’s Lisa Guerrero along for the ride. While Inside Edition was at these locations, multiple suspects were arrested for alleged retail theft and harboring stolen goods. Scott Glenn, Vice President of Asset Protection at the Home Depot, said that this is a gateway crime for more nefarious dealings.
What a great new concept, arresting criminals that break the law, and putting them in jail!

I live in Henderson NV and they don't play and seriously mean business when someone commits a crime or gets into any type of trouble, especially when it comes to shoplifting.

A couple of years ago there was a big bust in the SF Bay Area. The police found a several hundred thousand in cash in the house. A lot of stolen goods. They were able to locate a warehouse that the perps had and found almost several hundred thousand in goods at the warehouse. They found even more in warehouses in the Southern Cal area. This theft ring was a pretty large operation.
Those women who left their kids in the car in the heat need to be prosecuted for more than shoplifting...💙☮️🙏
The DA and judges let them out with a slap on the wrist.
Police departments need to release that info at a press conference to show everyone where the real problem is.

$950 threshold in CA is one of the lowest in the country. In most states it takes a lot more to be charged with a felony. I think in Texas you can still up to $2500 before it’s a felony

Maybe look at several factors too;
Companies can’t afford to hire people based on criminal backgrounds, availability, age gap, location etc.
Another sad factor is that many would rather live on welfare than earn actual income

Now that police have arrested them the courts need to send them to jail instead of giving them probation and dropping of charges because they will keep doing this.
Catching thieves has never been the problem. It's the prosecutors and judges who let them walk. If thieves were to lose a hand for their crime, there would be far fewer thefts.

Security guards also need legal authorization to detain shoplifters, police response can be delayed at times and people need to know that security can be just as responsive.
They do have the authority, the problem is that they can get sued if the person in question gets hurt when it's unnecessary. Like a security guard accidentally breaking an arm or a leg.

The problem is that they know what's going to happen if they get caught. They get a ticket and a court date that they likely won't even show up for. Instead, they should not be certain if they will be held for day or six months. And plea deals need to not be a thing. Ever. You shouldn't be able to bargain your way out of your crimes.

I was in Philly recently. I had to go toWalgreens. When I went there, I saw some stuff locked up. Not just expensive perfumes, but just $8 bottles of lotion. I needed an employee to unlock them.

This is great on the “boots on the ground” level. But the LA County DA will toss most of this out when it gets to his desk, so in reality the DA himself is putting law enforcement lives at risk.

Use to run a store, so many shoplifters already have some kind of history. Send they asses to jail and keep them there! They need to quit releasing them. A quarter of all my thieves had warrants for previous offenses not related to shoplifting.

Because they went missing from evidence from another bust. It's also against policy and workers comp to wear those types of shoes.
They ask me why I won’t go into Walmart and use self check out. No way. They accuse people of not scanning all their items. But they won’t bother to check them, they accuse you first drag you into an office. Then if they don’t arrest you then they might check and when they find out you did nothing wrong they walk off and won’t even help you load all the stuff back in your basket. No apology! If they can find the money to get someone to catch you, Thry can find the money to hire another cashier.
And the prosecutors will let them right back out
