After sighting in at 60 feet, I could easily cover 5 shots with a nickel th-cam.com/users/postUgkxQt2uORDRfFOVSrO4idv4B90ThT6EOnEL ! Truly a pleasure to shoot! Scope was easy to adjust for eye relief. Only problem the varmints must have seen it delivered lol!Update: So impressed with shot groups at 30 yards I purchased a Hammers 3×9 with adjustable Objective scope! Now a true nail driver!
Love the old semi autos. Wish I could have them but no cat D or C, and "because I really want one" isn't a genuine reason according to weapons branch lol.
The .223 is probably the best alround caliber. You can shoot just about anything with it, its cheap, accurate and you can get ammo anywhere. they are the best for roo and dog shooting but larger calibers work better on bigger pigs. If your lucky enough to get a govt. contact, they usually stipulate that you have to use nothing smaller than a .308. Given the choose I would use the 30.30 over the .223 for pig shooting but for roos and dogs , the .223 would be my pick.
I would recommend the Winchester Lever Action 30/30. Its easy to use, doesn't kick to much, has enough power to put down just about any pig and has enough follow up shots for most situations. If your only a small bloke, get the gun in 44mag or 45 long colt.
We do a lot of hog hunting here in Texas, we have a huge problem like you do there. If your gonna be in the brush, the SKS,30-30 lever or the Mini-14 all are great choices, and let the camera man carry the 270. Cant wait for part two, cheers!
@hickok45 Now thats the kettle calling the pot black. Just to clear it up for anyone who has been living under a rock, Hickok45 is the legendary gun enthusiast from TN who can sometimes be a little sarcastic!!
How you going, Ive just recently got my Firearms License, mainly for pig shooting (from NSW..based in WA) (in the ADF) and im a decent shot with military rifles but no idea what rifle to buy, me being used to 5.56mm rounds from both f88 and f89s...and even the 50. (also shot 12g. shotgun so recoil isnt a problem) just wondering what type of rifle would be good for a first? And where are you from? do you do like hunting tours etc just to show around new hunters?
@MrCurly210 Yeah all the time. I prefer Chital Deer to fallow or red and I do enjoy eating rabbit when its cooked properly, i also like wild duck. Not keen on roo.
Keep working at it. Here in the states it is at least 50%. We know the number is higher, but it is hard to get good stats on it because our firearms are not registered. You have a long way to go, but I know you are trying.
Hello my friend. We have numerous hogs here in the state of Florida. I can tell u that the best gun and Caliber for hogs is a Browning BLR in .358 Winchester. I have used other guns and calibers, around 10 or so, and nothing is as prudent as this combination for hogs. Check out the gun and caliber and u will see. If u ever use this combo then u will know its potential. God Bless the USA
You can get new semi autos in Australia. They are in customs storage and all you need is a permit. We have a new colt semi rifle cleared and a Armagon 12 semi 12g semi.
Great vid steve, yours is one of the most beauitful countries on earth, and Iv been to about 11 dif countries in the marines, Keep fighting the good fight to get aus. to change its tight gun laws
@hookset85 5% of australians own firearms but only a few have a Semi auto licence. We need a permit and licence to own a gun. I found that a lot of Americans do think we have no guns at all but we still have more than most of the other countries in the world. Its not a good system but we are working to make it better.
Thats Ljungman AG 42b made by Carl Gustafs stads. It was designed by Eric Ecklund and is the first direct impingement rifle. Very cool. I have been looking for one of those.
@mattmg84 Yes..... I know a bit about guns and a bit about hunting but I still have a lot to learn about filming!!!! My sight just isn't what it was in the old days!!
Hey steve, I live in the NT and own a Rem 7615. I've heard mixed opinions on using 30rnd magazines for hunting. I know that there are no laws on round capacity here, but I've been told that you are not allowed to use them for hunting and only for range use, is this true? Haven't been able to find a definite answer.
I just finished jumping through all the hoops in Austria to get my gun license. I am looking to get into wild boar hunting here. I am a little tired of all the paper work but I will get my first gun with the next pay cheque, so then I will be happy.
Great Work Steve. Would Love to see you do a review on a 7mm Remington Magnum! I purchased one of these in a Savage to be able to bring down Pigs and Deer. So seeing a review on this would be fantastic!
@hickok45 Thanks for the laugh hickok, I hit the thumbs down before I even noticed who wrote the comment, realized it was you and laughed my ass off!! Great video steve!!! Love your music and keep these vids coming!!!!!!!!
At a quick guess, how many guns do you own? I've got 8 to my name but have no intention of stopping there unless the greens get their way and limit us to three
to add on to what Steve said, yeah not many people have guns, its extremely rare in suburbs and cities, yes you need a license to get bolt actions, about a 2 month wait to start buying, then you have a 2 year license (which is hard to get) for handguns, and I've been shooting for a long time and never seen anyone above a Category D after probably 2000
Oh yeah Winchester 3030 lever that's what I use for pigs seems more human to as it just drops them no pain and that's allways a good thing. Then for everything else calibre to suit.
Hi Steve. I've recently come from working on a cattle station out from Longreach. the guys i was working with & a number of others out there, some of which are also contract shooters, mainly for the meat market seem to lean more towards the .223. some using the ballistic tip rounds. from what i've seen of them they seem to have done the job quite sufficiently on pigs, roos & on wild dogs (not for the meat market). How would you rate the .223 up against the .30-30 or .270 as you mentioned?
hey guys would a 243 rifle easily take down a big pig? Im thinking about buying a 22 for some fun and to leaner a bit more on shooting and for my other gun i was thinking a 243 or a 3030 winchester. Am i heading in the right direction? keep in mind im new to hunting :)
we got a .22 semi auto. little ruger 10/22 perfect for spotlighting. bumma the semi auto licenses are so hard to get. i was looking at getting a 22-250 primarily for foxes and possible on roo's (yes we have permits) would they be any good for pigs? (if we went on the occasional trip) either that or a .243?
Roughly how much does it cost a landowner to have you there for say three days? Is it per head or how does it work in your case if you don't mind me asking?
Hey steve mate i was just wondering what part of australia you live in, i live in sydney myself and i am thinking of getting into hunting. but im not sure about how to go about getting my rifle licence, any help you can provide would be awesome thanks
If I could recommend 2 rifles for pigging, I'd be leaning close to the same you've suggested. 30/30 win lever, spot on open sights, but also a remington 7600 .243. I've had the .243 for about 10years, it's quick, damn accurate and I can knock over a pack of 10 pigs in about 25 seconds when they're on the trot @ 250yrds, very versatile gun, will take down anything with the right load and if you cant shoot well.
It may be "easy" but its like buying a car, getting a license and insurance and then they require you can only drive to work and the store and have to keep the gas in a separate location. Sure you can have the gun but they control every aspect of its use and even then I wouldn't be surprised if they require insurance like a car as well (that's a classic liberal commie ploy)
No but I did live there for a while in the 70's it is a shame I remember buying a 303 in a pawn shop and the guy threw in 40 rounds of ammo and I think I paid $35. I needed no license or even an ID to purchase so I know how freedoms have slipped.
Yeah fuckin tell me about it took me 1 year to get a basic handgun license cause the police make it so hard to wait. Easy interview part , safety training isn’t a problem and it just needs patience .
@paintballdude902 yeh the .44 is a good option if you are looking for a little less recoil. but mainly if you can handle some recoil a 30-30 is a good option
Hopefully, we'll see video or pictures of the hunt. Hope you get the big bugger. Wild Pigs can do some serious damage to property. Not to mention, they can breed like rats! Good Hunting! Thanks for posting and nice gun table you have there!
i have a 7600 in .308 its a nice bit of gear but even the standard 4 round mag only feeds the third round properly 50% of the time, ive taken to using my 22-250 despite people saying its not enough gun it hasnt let me down yet, and holdover is a breeze with such a quick, level round
Or your local police station. That's what i did here in Wangaratta and it was about a 5minute talk and i was told the date of the licence test and so on, it was really easy for me but i dont know if it would be the same there or not? Wish shooting was more popular in Australia...
Hi Rick. I think NSW has just put a ban on shooting deer with anything under 30cal. And as for your single shot idea, how about a combo gun like the Tikka 412S .222 / 12 Gauge on Ozguns.com at the moment those two calibers cover a lot of game.
Keep the vids coming Steve :) & to the Ozzy want a be shooters make the effort to get your a&b gun lic. $250 for 5year lic in vic you spend more $ on mc d. Per year so don't say you can't aford it.
i have heard you talk about cleaver firearms in other vids mate, i know they have some ar 15 rifles in there, i am not sure if they are for sale or display stock though, also theres a mob down south making a semi auto 223 on a ar platform, i think they are called wirwick firearms, if u read aussie shooter im sure you would already know this....wish i could have d class lol have a good day
I have 223 and have been ask to help shoot out some feral pigs. property is not huge so was inclined to use this cal. What projectile type do u recommend
@enfiled303 i disagree. one i feel the .44 mag lever has a much faster snappier recoil than the .30-30. i dont even notice the .30-30 but the .44 mag gets my attention. .30-30 is a great gun but for thick brush i prefer my .44 mag. ive used both for taking black bear back home in north carolina prior to joining to military
That table full of guns is just outrageous! Why would anybody really need even ONE gun, much less a whole table full? Looks very dangerous to me! :-)
Also Hickok 45 has more guns than this so troll away
hickok45 And what do you know about guns hickok45!? I'll bet you don't have any! 😁
How many guns does your local cop have?
funny one!!
at first i saw this and i was like "oh no, whos this" and the i read the name and i burst out laughing hahaha

Great show Steve, might want to check the camera's focus a little though.
Not sure on the best as it depends on the size and bred of the animal, My favourite all rounder would be the .270 but on bigger deer I use my .300WSM.
@flyrofglider No hunting with pistols in Oz, there are a few exceptions but very very few people can hunt with or even carry a pistol anywhere at all.
That Bentley pump shotgun looks just like a Mossberg 500
the 6.5 swedish is an outstanding round. The ballistic coefficient and sectional density are superb.

What bullets do you use with the 7615's twist rate? do you sacrifice accuracy for a higher grain? love your work steve.
cheers,
Gus
@Cgul96 There is a push to bring semi .22 back from class C to B which may happen, thats the first step, then maybe D to C.
Great job Steve, very good presentation. Nice firearms.

Steve, what would take to Africa for game like warthogs, kudu, impala etc, etc? I'm looking at a CZ .375, do you think it's too big?
Do you sometimes eat what you shoot mate ?
Thats Ljungman AG 42b made by Carl Gustafs stads. It was designed by Eric Ecklund and is the first direct impingement rifle. Very cool. I have been looking for one of those.
@mattmg84 Yes..... I know a bit about guns and a bit about hunting but I still have a lot to learn about filming!!!! My sight just isn't what it was in the old days!!
A ruger gunsite scout In 308. And a quality 30-30 leak a Marlin 336c both are good options
Mini-14 FTW! :-) I can't wait to get mine!
how are the semi autos still elgal? i'm not saying they should be illegal i'm just confused were they not banned?

steve i dont understand why you cant fire semi automatic weapons, whats the difference?
Roughly how much does it cost a landowner to have you there for say three days? Is it per head or how does it work in your case if you don't mind me asking?
Not sure about N.T. Just ring the firearms registry or talk with your local gun shop, they should know.
Love 6.5*55 powerful with low recoil 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Hey steve mate i was just wondering what part of australia you live in, i live in sydney myself and i am thinking of getting into hunting. but im not sure about how to go about getting my rifle licence, any help you can provide would be awesome thanks

I was always under the impression that a large calibre semi-auto with a high capacity mag was the best things for pigs
Good video, I'll stick with my .308, great all round rifle, can shoot just about everything depending on the load you use
I have a Russian SKS here in Canada and its great. They are also super cheap here.
im here in the states but nothing says hog gun like an enfield in .303 a no4 mk1 prefered
A SAUER 200 in 7x64 or a STEYR SSG in .308. Both are bolt action guns. Perfekt for wild boar!
1st :P nice vid love your videos :P
getting a gun license un australia is piss easy.. just the waiting time is the problem
It may be "easy" but its like buying a car, getting a license and insurance and then they require you can only drive to work and the store and have to keep the gas in a separate location.

like the videos steve. when are you coming out withsome more music videos?
In Queensland we are now allowed to have 15 shot mag on a B class licence.

Is there any hope or momentum in Austria to get more reasonable firearms laws?
Wonderful man. I salute.
I haven't heard of that problem with them before but it doesn't surprise me as they are very cheaply made. I don't like mine much at all.
Levers - 30-30? 44mag?
Bolt - 243?
shotgun with slugs or buck?
Great vid
@littlesgiant Thanks mate. I am working on a music video at the moment, should have it up in the next few weeks

Best investment ever.
Hey Steve my mate just got hid D-class and he wants to know if it's worth buying a daystate wolverine 303.
You know what you need, this is my favourite pig gun, i have and IMI Timberwolf in 44 Mag..Wow! how do you get a cat d? i got cat c as im a farmer
Hey mate, you should make a gun collection video!
Hi Rick.
I think NSW has just put a ban on shooting deer with anything under 30cal.

Sometimes it sucks to be the child of England doesn't it. from what I've seen New Zealand's got it pretty good. cant wait to get my licence
@hookset85 bolts n levers are the most common licence's in australia. lots of people, probably more that you could emagin have licences for these
Legend.
what size shells do you use on pigs with the 12g?
Keep the vids coming Steve :)

Depends on the gun the caliber and the shooter, 50m or closer
I have 223 and have been ask to help shoot out some feral pigs. property is not huge so was inclined to use this cal. What projectile type do u recommend
ever think about a .44 mag lever action? great for hunting in the brush
both good , bloke .
what do you think would be a good gun for an 14 year old ?? im look for an gun
If you want a gun in Australia ,
Just open a gun business or farm and presto , you can have anything .
Even a cat C and D guns
@enfiled303 i disagree. one i feel the .44 mag lever has a much faster snappier recoil than the .30-30. i dont even notice the .30-30 but the .44 mag gets my attention. .30-30 is a great gun but for thick brush i prefer my .44 mag. ive used both for taking black bear back home in north carolina prior to joining to military
He Steve! Here you can see how Germany´s top wildboar hunter uses a Sauer 200 bolt action on a wild boar hunt.
They are about $1500 in most places now. Of course being australia, that means they could be upto $2000, depends on the dealer.
Its a category of licence that lets you own and use a semi auto centrefire or rim fire and pump action shotgun there extremely hard to get
@gav1nbeyond Sure am, I'll put the whole hunt up, part 2, in the next few days.
Camels? You all shoot camels? That would be fun? Is there an outbreak of wild camels in Australis? That's awesome never heard of it!
I got a timber wolf 44 magnum pump action
