    The city was set to receive great profits from this race...All the hotels were booked well in advance and and organizers were predicting a sellout....Paul Newman was coming too and the whole town was waiting to catch a glimpse of him. It's been so many years and I am no longer sure of all the exact details, but this race ended up being postponed for
    the dumbest of reasons....If I recall correctly, one of the local high schools had rented the convention center in advance for their graduation....This date conflicted with the race...Rather than regretfully refund the high school's money and/or offer them an
    alternative venue, the powers that be decided to postpone the race till the following weekend I believe. Most folks cannot simply add a week to their travel plans and so naturally most reservations were cancelled and prepurchased tickets had to be refunded. The date originally scheduled was bright sunny and warm...The day of the postponed race was chilly and overcast further reducing any last minute ticket buys. As you can see
    the stands are nearly empty, and the announcers are wearing jackets, and yeah everybody involved lost money and their was never another race held there...But this would have been a sold out race and could have turned into an awesome annual event if only local Government had of simply done the smart thing.

      Sad but not surprising. Niagara Falls government has had no common sense when it comes to channeling new ideas to promote the city and region.

    The one and only TA race there! The race promoter of the race stuck the city with the huge cost of putting on this race and the city said "never again".I was there as a crew member on car #50, a semi-pro race team with only 1 paid crew member. All the rest were volunteers, as I was.

      +Michael Faiella Well, he used to lose a lot..but that happens to most of us, regardless of gender. We're talking about a sport in which "the gods" have a win percentage of about 30%. I actually kind of wish folks would just leave trans-gendered people alone about that crap. I can't imagine someone hating their own body so much that they'd spend all that money, and have that much painful surgery *on purpose*. They got enough problems without people giving them shit about it. OTOH, with all the celebrity nonsense going on in media about it right now, I wonder how much money I could make on eBay if I could get "Cait" to sign an old media card for a race that "Bruce" did. 3:D

    I was there as a crew member on car #50. It was my first time as a crew member. It was hot on Sat. but Sun. was very nice.As far as Audi, they were exploiting the rule book to the max. Once SCCA adjusted the rules to make all the cars mostly equal Audi left the series. If they couldn't win (Dominate) they didn't want to play.

    • @TheUsmc0802
      @TheUsmc0802 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Um no, thats wrong, Audi ran quattro as allowed. What rule did they exploit?

    • @sabinabrozynski9215
      @sabinabrozynski9215 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TheUsmc0802 I didn't say that they cheated only that SCCA had written rules that Audi saw were favorable to their cars if built to the limit of the rules as written. This is what they did. Just like Penske had special "push rod" engines built for the Indy 500 and they dominated that years race. When you allow various types of engines/chassis designs your going to find some teams figure out how to exploit those rules to their advantage. That's racing. The racing Organizers also have the ability to change the rules as you go to "level" the playing field. That's what SCCA did and that's why Audi left the series after only 2-3 years. Look what they did in international rallying in Europe. They introduced all wheel drive. A couple of years later you couldn't win unless you had it too. I'm not being negative on Audi. I like Audi's, but I don't own one. I do own a VW which owns Audi.

      Well the entire point behind Audis TransAm program was to promote the advantages of the then relatively new quattro system. Audi were intentionally entering cars that were close to their production cars for that reason. They left because they couldn't run a car with a production based layout anymore, and less so because the SCCAs rule changes were reeling in their obvious advantage.
