Parakeets gather on wires in front of Sekar's house on September 23, 2015 in Chennai, India. A BIG-HEARTED bird lover has been feeding thousands of wild parakeets twice a day for 10 years - from the comfort of his own home. Among the hustle and bustle of Chennai in southern India, 62-year-old Sekar - known as 'India's Birdman' - rises at 4am to prepare the feed for his feathered friends. The enthusiast ornithologist, who works as a camera technician, prepares thick rows of rice on planks of wood on his roof terrace. Up to 4,000 parakeets a day then brighten up the sprawling streets of Chennai in the Indian state of Tamil Nadu, as they flock to Sekar's home.

For those who think he should feed someone instead of birds, he isn't obliged to anyone (unless one feels as his calling) since every individual is equipped with whatever it takes to survive otherwise he isn't here. He is only rightful for what makes him happy just like some others would go drink, shop excessively, travel abroad, etc.
Yes as there are many people working for human and human basic needs rights but there are fewer people for animals and most humans are capable of earning and feeding themselves !

My brother in Mumbai has also been feeding the parakeets twice a day on bird seeds and corn since about 4 years. He calls them the 'Green Brigade". He also has a couple of parrots that were abandoned since about 12 years or so. He has also been feeding the crows, since God knows when.......and the sparrows all come for leftovers.
Well, in some way, the world will reward him. God bless him.

Indian Ringnecks are wonderful pets. I have one who's 3 years old and has such a positive impact on my life. I love him!
mine is 8 years old (his name is perry) . I don't like putting birds in cage. I used to to purchase birdies ( they are still sold illegally in India) and free them. I tried to free perry about thousand times, but he dosent go now.
he roams in the whole house with me and eats in my plate. I luv him!

They don't understand it, but he spends his own money to make these little birdies happy. He also heals the wounded birds that he finds so they don't die.

You right to some extent, but when one door closes the other opens. Not all of them will find it easy to survive cause they are getting easy food. some of them will die but nature has the tendency to bounce back.

i see myself in his place. i spent all my savings to feed feral birds. aging 25, i have spondyloarthritis for last 8 years so my body don't allow much activities. but still i take pain killers and go to feed them.

It is normal in India. My mom also put a bowl of water and some rice outside in my balcony.
They area indians, they are used to cows shit and poor personal hygiene . To them it's normal .

He’s so loving and kind, and no wonder the birds come to him, as he said first it was a few, then a few hundred and then thousands it’s probably because the first few that turned up went back to their friends n told them all about the good food etc and then they all started flocking to him, the birds r lush, it must be amazing to live in a country where birds like this fly freely, these birds r pets here in the uk, like parrots etc, I absolutely love birds they r so pretty, my few favourites are macaws the blue and the red ones, and birds of prey ie owls and kestrels etc, such beautiful powerful birds, xxx god bless this amazing man! 500 rupees = 8 dollars, give or take, 8 dollars a day and he feeds thousands. I'm not saying everybody has to spend 8 dollars daily, but imagine if most of us spent a dollar a day on food for certain species, we'd have a lot more population, for instance, I love hummingbirds, so much that I have 4 bottles filled with sugary water around the house just for them, imagine if we all did that, they would raise their numbers, and help bees with polination. Man, if I had the kind of money some disgustingly rich people have, I would get some luxuries too, but I'd end up spending shitloads of money on feeding and helping animals, and on planting lots and lots of trees

For people freaking out that the birds will die once the man becomes unable to feed them. There was a very similar situation in San Francisco with the Parrots of Telegraph Hill.
A man was also feeding a flock of bird (parrots in his case), but he stopped after about 10 years because of controversy. Even though he stopped feeding them, the birds survived just fine without him. You can still see many parrots flying around Telegraph Hill and the surrounding neighborhoods in San Francisco today.
We visited those birds at Telegraph Hill in San Francisco, California. Even though the man who fed them moved away, those birds looked very healthy and happy.

Indian Ring Neck Parrots (not 'ringernecks' ) ARE also known as Indian Ringneck Parakeets (Psittacula krameri manillensis).
And actually, in Canada we often call Budgerigars 'budgies' and sometimes 'parakeets'.
Actually. The video is correct. These are parakeets, just a certain type, The Indian Ringneck. They are not budgies, or budgideriars.
These are Indian ringneck parakeets. Budgies are a different kind of parakeet called budgerigars. Some people think parakeets are a whole species but they are actually just kinds of parrots.
