😅my first mountain bike was an '89 Rock Hopper. it was almost a perfect bike for me. i almost bought a Trek, which I know are great bikes but I'm glad I got a Rock Hopper. i bought it before suspension forks were a big deal, so when I added a suspension fork it became a perfect bike! i was a self taught rider. after I learned how to ride, I had a lot fewer accidents. going really fast out on the trail turned out to be a spiritual, transcendent experience for me. 😅
Ive had mine for a year now and i love it. The breaks work great and love the tensioner on the derailer. Game changer
Hardtails are more fun for me! I'd just upgrade the fork to the one that comes with the Elite version and you're GOLDEN! The 2023 Comp comes with Shimano Deore derauiller and shift levers! So much fun on the trails with this bike! I became a kid again!!
I got the ergon GA2 as well (the thicker version). Looove them
I don't think i like straight handlebars, wish they went back a little less bending of the wrists when rocking back ans forth pedaling hard, nice bike
Do the brakes squeal or do they howl? A little bit of squealing even with light braking is normal. For the fork, there are entry-level air forks that would be a massive upgrade (ex. Rockshox Recon with straight steer tube and QR dropouts).
The breaks on my Rockhopper Comp, as everything else on the bike, are very silent. So much fun with this bike! It loves dirt!! Nimble fast, smooth and quiet!!
The derailer is made to be breakaway so you don't damage the frame
The hanger is designed to bend or break. Not the derailleur.
