I’ve never despised a fictional character as much as I do Ginny. She’s literally the definition of the mean girl in high school who isn’t popular, so she somehow thinks she’s oppressed. Do not even get me STARTED on the way she treats Georgia, I think I speak for a lot of the fan base when I say a part of us truly watch for GEORGIA, because she’s likeable, she has trauma but she doesn’t make it her entire plot line, she’s a mom trying her best while also keeping her skeletons in the closet. She’s awesome, she’s a badass. I don’t think the writers understand they’ve completely villainized Ginny, but they should really take notes and give her a better arc.
I think Ginny's arc did get a bit better in the 2nd season. Even though she's annoying to watch, her shit personality sets up a good opportunity for character growth and development later.
I just couldn’t stand Ginny long enough to find out if she turns into a good person who actually appreciates that her mom would give her the world if she could.
the audacity ginny had to literally say “i’ve had a lot of family stuff going on too” and then proceeds to say “its not always about you”. her character pisses me off so much, especially when she practically blamed her losing the essay contest on hunter like 😬. and don’t even get me started on how she treated georgia.

Exactly! I don't necessarily love Ginny but I can see the clear decisions behind why she is portrayed the way she is. She states multiple times that she has never had friends or a boyfriend so their approval and attention means everything to her. Suddenly she fits in and wants to be someone they like. She decides to pursue Hunter for that very reason. I think, if you notice her at the beginning when we meet her she wears her natural hair and baggy tshirts with no makeup. This is when she is most herself, but she comments about how she needs to wear a mask to survive and she's good at surviving. So then she straightens her hair and changes other things about her appearance. Her look is altogether more feminine. She is someone more palatable to the ppl in Wellsbury and she distances herself from Bracia, the person that represents her blackness in this community. It is only at the end, once her father tells her she needs to accept who she really is, and after she gives a speech about living in the space between black and white that she wears her natural hair again. Then the incident with MANG happens and she is forced to acknowledge who she is and who she wants to be. I think Ginny is way more nuanced than people understand, and she's believable as a teenager. Hell, half the shit she says and does I can relate to on a personal level. Anyway, sorry for such a long response!

I experienced something like this. I must recognize I was a very unstable person when I suffered from depression and as a consequence I had a really distorted view on things, but I once vented out to a friend and all she told me was: "You have to stop thinking that the whole world revolves around you" And yeah that was a really awkward moment for me.
It drives me absolutely insane that Ginny was so ungrateful for her mom. Moms arent perfect and make mistakes. But that doesnt mean they should be defined for their mistakes. In my opinion, Ginny's mom went through a lot to make Ginny happy and taken care of. Not everyone has that kind of mom and some people would die to have a mom like that. My mom isnt perfect at all and our relationship isnt always the best, but she does love me. Instead of making her already stressful life even harder, i decided to stop being stubborn and try to help her out when she needed it and acknowledge to her when i fuck up. I used to sneak out a lot, and get so angry when she would do everything to make me come home and i regret having all those fights with her. The cake scene really pissed me off though. My mom was worried that she wouldnt have enough money to bake me a cake for my birthday this year, but she scraped up what she could. It was early morning for me as well and i didnt feel like eating cake right as of that moment, but i told her i was happy she did this for me anyways and said i love you. I ate what i could, and my mom seemed so happy. For Ginny to react that way just annoyed me so much. Its not that hard to stop being so stubborn and realize that youre the problem. Its okay to admit youre wrong and apologize for it.
Me, my family all watched it at seperate times and I couldn’t be in the room when the show was on. But I know I hate Ginny and I have from when I first heard about her
if it’s done right, the main character can start as a terrible person and grow overtime in the story. the problem is ginny didn’t change at ALL throughout the entire show
Why not enjoy this "neutral character turned anti-hero"-arc? It's a rare find in modern shows, and it keeps the viewer engaged. One look at Ginny and you want to punch her in the face, but I honestly prefer her to an ideal Mary Sue-esque main character.
My friend did that to me i had a lot of issues more of psychological issues and family issues an it's been happening for like 3 years at that point and for weeks i was at my worst and i wanted my friends to be near me and listen me just that and you know they were close friends of mine so and i always tried to be near them and listen them when they are crying . So one day i burst into tears screamed and yelled cause i was done and couldn't control myself anymore and i was extremely ill so after crying i get down to go to the hospital and my friend came and said to me you know my mom is sick you are not the only one with problems . LİKE WTF WHAT İS YOUR PROBLEM İ KNOW İ'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WİTH PROBLEMS İ KNOW THAT İ M NOT ASKİNG YOU TO GİVE ME ALL YOUR TİME İ M JUST ASKİNG YOU TO BE NEAR ME A LİTTLE BİT MORE AND LİSTEN ME AND BE A LİTTLE MORE CONSİDERİNG . And i was already feeling bad because not being able to nice enough and can't being the solution for my friends problems because i had a lot going on with me . İ was already feeling bad enough and she said that to me implying that i was selfish i couldn't say anything . İ just quietly cried and went to the hospital and it was bad so bad . İ couldn't stop crying the whole time . İt was one of my worst days . And this wasn't even the first time or the last they were bad friends but i was extremely alone ( sorry about my english i just wanted to write about it )

To be fair he was a total creep in S1 and she was about to hurt herself. When you're in that mindset you think that no one loves you and you're so angry too. I hate S1 Ginny more than any character ever, but I get her on that one
I think the problem Ginny has is that she wants everything to be about her and wants the whole world to resolve around her so much it has blinded her to see that she ain't the only one struggling.

Hunter pulled the racism put first in truth take it up with the people who decided to create this show. It a really flat show and it's just for drama they tried to be "cultured" but it completely flew over the writers head and the heads of many other people who fail to understand racism. Look back to the scene of what she talks about in her poem if you fail to understand you ignorant to a different reality of someone with another skin color. They failed with trying to be cultured and they failed with trying to focus on mental health. They bring it up once and call it a day.

I mean, I can't empathize with her character, but I can sympathize. I grew up with dozens and dozens of people that had a life almost as tough and unfair and unstable as hers and aside from the hilarious feminism, they were more-or-less like this. A lack of stability is exactly what ruins kids, and Ginnt got almost none.
I feel bad for Georgia and Austin. Georgia finally had everything going the way she wanted it to go and she was happy, but Ginny had to drag her brother to run away with her, and with the way she is they’re barely going to survive on their own. I hope in season 2 she realises that she needs Georgia and realises that she’s a bad person that’s too self-centred. And I hope that if she sees her ex friends again she apologises to them rather than her expecting one from them

I’ve never despised a fictional character as much as I do Ginny. She’s literally the definition of the mean girl in high school who isn’t popular, so she somehow thinks she’s oppressed. Do not even get me STARTED on the way she treats Georgia, I think I speak for a lot of the fan base when I say a part of us truly watch for GEORGIA, because she’s likeable, she has trauma but she doesn’t make it her entire plot line, she’s a mom trying her best while also keeping her skeletons in the closet. She’s awesome, she’s a badass. I don’t think the writers understand they’ve completely villainized Ginny, but they should really take notes and give her a better arc.
I think Ginny's arc did get a bit better in the 2nd season. Even though she's annoying to watch, her shit personality sets up a good opportunity for character growth and development later.
I just couldn’t stand Ginny long enough to find out if she turns into a good person who actually appreciates that her mom would give her the world if she could.
She definitely had a better arc in season 2. Both her and Georgia grew and became even better characters

Exactly! I don't necessarily love Ginny but I can see the clear decisions behind why she is portrayed the way she is. She states multiple times that she has never had friends or a boyfriend so their approval and attention means everything to her. Suddenly she fits in and wants to be someone they like. She decides to pursue Hunter for that very reason. I think, if you notice her at the beginning when we meet her she wears her natural hair and baggy tshirts with no makeup. This is when she is most herself, but she comments about how she needs to wear a mask to survive and she's good at surviving. So then she straightens her hair and changes other things about her appearance. Her look is altogether more feminine. She is someone more palatable to the ppl in Wellsbury and she distances herself from Bracia, the person that represents her blackness in this community. It is only at the end, once her father tells her she needs to accept who she really is, and after she gives a speech about living in the space between black and white that she wears her natural hair again. Then the incident with MANG happens and she is forced to acknowledge who she is and who she wants to be. I think Ginny is way more nuanced than people understand, and she's believable as a teenager. Hell, half the shit she says and does I can relate to on a personal level. Anyway, sorry for such a long response!

It drives me absolutely insane that Ginny was so ungrateful for her mom. Moms arent perfect and make mistakes. But that doesnt mean they should be defined for their mistakes. In my opinion, Ginny's mom went through a lot to make Ginny happy and taken care of. Not everyone has that kind of mom and some people would die to have a mom like that. My mom isnt perfect at all and our relationship isnt always the best, but she does love me. Instead of making her already stressful life even harder, i decided to stop being stubborn and try to help her out when she needed it and acknowledge to her when i fuck up. I used to sneak out a lot, and get so angry when she would do everything to make me come home and i regret having all those fights with her. The cake scene really pissed me off though. My mom was worried that she wouldnt have enough money to bake me a cake for my birthday this year, but she scraped up what she could. It was early morning for me as well and i didnt feel like eating cake right as of that moment, but i told her i was happy she did this for me anyways and said i love you. I ate what i could, and my mom seemed so happy. For Ginny to react that way just annoyed me so much. Its not that hard to stop being so stubborn and realize that youre the problem. Its okay to admit youre wrong and apologize for it.

My friend did that to me i had a lot of issues more of psychological issues and family issues an it's been happening for like 3 years at that point and for weeks i was at my worst and i wanted my friends to be near me and listen me just that and you know they were close friends of mine so and i always tried to be near them and listen them when they are crying . So one day i burst into tears screamed and yelled cause i was done and couldn't control myself anymore and i was extremely ill so after crying i get down to go to the hospital and my friend came and said to me you know my mom is sick you are not the only one with problems . LİKE WTF WHAT İS YOUR PROBLEM İ KNOW İ'M NOT THE ONLY ONE WİTH PROBLEMS İ KNOW THAT İ M NOT ASKİNG YOU TO GİVE ME ALL YOUR TİME İ M JUST ASKİNG YOU TO BE NEAR ME A LİTTLE BİT MORE AND LİSTEN ME AND BE A LİTTLE MORE CONSİDERİNG . And i was already feeling bad because not being able to nice enough and can't being the solution for my friends problems because i had a lot going on with me . İ was already feeling bad enough and she said that to me implying that i was selfish i couldn't say anything . İ just quietly cried and went to the hospital and it was bad so bad . İ couldn't stop crying the whole time . İt was one of my worst days .
