Wow. I found this video and I expected that it would be some kind of a review or POV or some impressions of GRIII. But this video turned out to be unexpectedly deep, meaningful and philosophical. Great job, wish you the best on this life trip.
Absolutely amazing video, and story! Thank you for sharing. I went to uni in Nottingham 2014-2017, and now live in NYC, so watching your walks around Nottingham are particularly nostalgic. My wife and I are currently in a transition moving away from NYC, and even though I’m ready for the change and I’m the one pushing for it, the feeling of not being able to go on my usual photo walks here hits me every now and then. I have a couple more months in NYC, and your video has inspired me to make my own book documenting our last summer in the city. Thank you, thank you, and thank you.
Ah Jonathan! This is amazing! Can't wait to see what you make, hope you have a fantastic summer and enjoy every moment. And exciting times for you move ✌️🙌📸
Beautiful! Many blessings to you and your family. And may you have many more wonderful Tuesdays …and Wednesdays, sharing with us such fine photography, filmmaking and storytelling.
What a beautiful project and share with this video essay. It was a wonderful 12 minutes spent listening to your story and the concept of the project, and how it evolved as you entered and progressed through the process. The way you shared your story, your editing, your pacing, how you inserted your narrative breaks, allowed me to just take in your story at such a calm and reflective pace. If you were to make the book available, I would certainly buy it. It would sit on my shelf as a reminder that developing a concept and sticking with it, while allowing yourself to discover and evolve can lead to new ways of seeing, and that, would be invaluable. Thanks again. 🙏
Man, the photos look amazing and the project itself is really great and inspiring. But I need to say something about the blank page day. I think to include that was the most interesting thing (and I really loved all the rest), not only because it's such an example of creativity and thinking outside the box, but because it takes balls to do something this... strange. Sometimes the simplest thing is the hardest, that's something I probably would not have the courage to do and probably would have surrendered to the feeling of "I need to shoot something" and would have ended up putting a picture I'd not be proud of. Congratulations on that, it was really inspiring.
Loved you video dude. Only just had my GRiiix since Christmas. Only been out with it once so far. Wasn't to fussed at the beginning of of walk, but has the day went on I started to love it more. Thanks for putting this up dude 🙏
Wonderful. Brilliant. Moving. Exceptional photography. I'd buy your book in a heartbeat as it resonates so much with all that I see and feel in the world. Fantastic video...
Wow. Simply wow. So emotional and honest. It's an inspiration for me. Photography is so much more than just taking pictures. It's life and the way you see it. Thanks for sharing this!
I rarely ever care about Black and white photos, nor would I usually watch a whole video involving only bnw photo content, but this video is what photography is about. Creating meaning through documentation and taking notice of things your eye maybe wouldn't appreciate if your hand wasn't holding a camera. This project is very inspirational and you now have an extra "like" and an extra subscriber because of it. Looking forward to more of your work!
100% my experience too. The 28mm eq. of the Fujifilm X70 was too wide for me until something clicked. I was in a very disgusting town and wanted to capture all the filth I could in one photo - suddenly I was composing clutter, and soon clutter became context. Busy frames grew on me and when I had the choice to buy into the Ricoh GR III or the X, I chose the classic III. Now I don't think I could go back. Great video. 👑
I loved this video, beautifull work, and then your new project presented it self for your GR111, your beautiful baby daughter, congratulations, enjoy the journey, it passes so fast,
The emotions that you are able to bring to life through your photographs… wow. Beautiful. If you ever decide to make more copies of that book to sell, I’d absolutely be first in line. Cheers.
Wow. To say that this is one of the best TH-cam videos I've seen is an understatement. At a glance, I thought the whole video would be about the camera and how it met your expectations. It had nothing to do with the Ricoh yet everything to do with it too. You are one of the greatest storytellers I've ever seen and I wish you so much success in whatever you want to achieve with your life and in this channel. You've earned a subscriber.
Really beautiful. I enjoyed so much about this. Nottingham was my hangout in my teens, great to see familiar shots. And congratulations on the new addition. Here's to many more exciting Tuesdays on the horizon!
What an amazingly well produced video to showcase great photos. For those, like me, who often wonder “Why am I doing this?”. Here’s a pretty great answer: to tell a story that you care about. Thank you for making this.
What a nice piece of work, you did! It is art and very nice handwork at the same time. I have one question, you do not speak about in the video. How much post editing did you do? Did you shoot RAW or straight out of camera BW? Best regards and respect from Denmark, Thomas
what an amazing video!!!! Brilliantly shot, amazing story. I love everything about it! Congrats to you and your wife on becoming parents, hope all goes well. I really hope. the people at Ricoh see this video.
I stumbled across this video by chance ... and WOW! I love your images. It's personal. It's beautiful. And combined with your story behind those images, it became complete. Stunning works~!
Really enjoyed watching this! I love what you created and the stories you shared behind them. Congratulations on becoming a father and producing this project as well! Keep on going!
What a beautiful video. On top of all the things you mentioned about the journey you went on, you also captured Nottingham really well. It’s hustle and business but also it’s quiet calmness there is on certain days. I havnt lived in Nottingham for 3 years now, it has quite a dark spot in my head because of my mental health due to a job I was working at the time, but this video may have just started to turn it around and make me think of the positives that are there. Thank you 🖤
This is a great story and work of art. The whole concept is beautiful. I sure hope you make a book, store it and give it to your son when he turns 20. Image the changes he (and you) will see on an average Tuesday in 2043. Well done. Cheers from southern Georgian Bay, Ontario, Canda.
Thanks for sharing. Me too after I have my daughter, she became the main reason I take photos everyday. I make one album per year for her now she is 8. I’m glad I have done this.
I loved my old grd3 until it died. So I appreciate your photos and journey. Your thoughts on the X100 (on another video) which I still own and works has inspired me to go out with it. Thank you.
I have been thinking about making a photographic journey like this for some time now. I'm looking forward to be doing it soon. I've purchased a Leica X2 for the purpose of the journey, and I also want to do it in B/W. Funny to see something similar to what I wanted. Great work. Keep it up. Thanks for posting this, I must say that I really enjoyed looking at your photography. Your images have a lot of contrast and blacks in them, I was wondering how you metered your beautiful photos? Thanks again.
Cheers Steve... erm most of it was just setting the camera manually scene to scene but at times i did use the GRIII's spot metering mode when i was playing with strong light and dark
Absolutely fantastic video, idea, and photos. Photography is never linear in terms of progress or feeling etc. and just recently I’ve been struggling a little. But this short film has really got me excited again, so thank you 🙏 oh and if you ever offer the book as a purchase, I’ll certainly be a customer
