When work brought Arpita and Sujoy Das to Bengaluru 13 years ago, they yearned for the flavours of Kolkata's street fare, more specifically the Calcutta kathi roll. Since they could find none, Arpita decided to open a tiny 150 square feet shop cooking and serving up this quintessential Kolkata eat-as-you-go treat. It was only a matter of time before Sujoy quit his advertising job to support this small enterprise that has since built for itself a loyal following not only for its rolls that are made completely in house, including the spice mix with a few ingredients shipped from Kolkata, but also their Kolkata style kebabs and biryani in recent times. I visit them for a late lunch and make a meal of three tasty kathi rolls.
Hope you enjoy this episode. Take care, stay safe and strong; please do support businesses in your neighbourhood. Happy eating!

The owner of this outlet is fighting with every customer online on google who's posting their negative experience either about food, staff behavior or hygiene rather than humbly excepting any of his mistakes. There could be a few targeted reviews but can't be all. This owner is not even willing to accept even genuine criticism going to the extent of lambasting every customer who posts his/her experience. His reviews are in decline probably that's y he's seeking help here. Kitchen hygiene seems to be the biggest issue of this outlet when owner is not around..

Assuming, of course, that the said 'foibles' refers to the food served. Although the recipe is a simple one, sophisticated as Bengali cuisine already is, not sure one can replicate it when away from home due to various factors.

38 seconds into this video and I can for sure say that Kolkata Style Kathi Roll does not contain mint sauce, chicken tikka or kashundi (mustard) sauce. Green chilli sauce, tomato ketchup, lemon juice, chat masala and chicken tikki is used. Strange that this lovely Bengali couple mentioned golden spoon in Park Street but couldn’t get the basic toppings and dressing wide of the mark.

The only thing I noticed, which may not be a part of a typical traditional Cal roll, is the sauce inside, esp the green chutney. Most Cal roll outlets, except Kusum perhaps, use sauces sparingly. It's mostly the paratha/egg outside, and the chicken, onions, chillies, slight chaat masala, maybe a hint of vinegar and squeeze of lemon. But these rolls look yummy, and I would love to enjoy them whenever I'm in Bangalore.

Fantastic food blog.. A tribute to our beloved Kolkata kathi roll. Perhaps most famous and delicious street food of Kolkata. I am eagerly waiting for Kripal Sir to come in Kolkata and explore the gastronomic culture of Bengalis. I slightly disagree with the owner sujoy with one point, Kathi roll started its journey in mutton and beef version at Nizam hotel in New Market, Kolkata and mutton kathi roll is equally popular with its chicken counterpart.

A humble request. I have two recommendations, of hotels I would like to see featured on this channel.
    1) South Kitchen (N.R Colony)
    2) Trupti thindi (near Kodigehalli)
I love these two places, and wish to see few more branches of them opened soon. They have some unique delicacies.
    Thanks!

The original Kati roll was introduced by NIZAM'S (behind New market, Kolkata )then came a host of copy cats . By the 90's the whole of bengal started making them.
Most of them use maida for roll, the paratha would be swiming in oil & that is the aroma, taste together with the meat.

Good morning dear Kripal 🙏 Wishing you a Happy Republic Day 🇮🇳🇮🇳 ! Oh Chakum Chukum means Chaptata in Bengali . When you put the picture on Twitter yesterday I was trying to wonder why this unique name - Now it’s clear ! Loved the look of the Tandoori kebabs 😋😋 ! The Kolkata Veg Chop roll is truly unique 👍 ! When the added those green chillis on the TKVC roll - I was bit concerned as you don’t handled too spicy dishes ! Sweet Lassi always is a saviour post feasting on some super spicy dishes !! I love eggs on my Kathi Roll - It takes the dish by a couple of notches higher in terms of flavour profile 👍👍kudos to Sujoy and Arpita for explaining their dishes with passion and pride - Well done 👍 Which Roll did you like - Mutton Seekh Kebab ? Thoroughly enjoyed the Vlog 👍👍 Much love and respect ✊🏻 Take care and God bless 🙏🙏
