Marketing 101 for Self-Published Authors - What is Marketing?
For most self-published writers, the answer to that question turns into specific tactics like “social media” or “advertising.”
But the real definition of Marketing is far broader, even for book marketing.
Whether you’re a famous self-published author or you’re still trying to decide what to write, you need to think of marketing in a far more encompassing way.
Marketing should include ALL the activities that impact your audience’s experience: (1) writing the book, (2) deciding what to charge people for buying the book, (3) distributing the book, and (4) letting people know the book is available.
If you think about book marketing as just “promotional activities” you’ll severely limit your ability to satisfy your avid audience-your target market.
Instead, think about book marketing as being the collective experience your audience has with your book.
THAT’S book marketing. And that’s why book marketing has 4 Ps, because only 1 of those Ps is Promotion.
