  • The second (completely extempore) tune from our concert in Agen some time ago! This one went through quite a few different atmospheres and motifs, I hope you'll have as much fun listening to it as we had playing it live!
    Roland Devocelle (tenor saxophone)
    Thierry Marietan (doublebass)
    Urbuli Baba (drums)
    Filmed by Audrey Rocher; recorded and mixed by Roland at the Blue Fox Coffee, Agen (France), May 2024.

    I love the deep listening in this ensemble, I often have to go back a couple times to listen.

      Thanks! I guess when you're playing for the first time with new musicians in this kind of context you've got to be especially alert and hyperconscious, as you can't double-guess what the others are going to play!

    What a sharp way to open a piece. I love the energy behind this piece, Thierry's intermittent walking bass lines, and overall, I'm very impressed by everyone's playing, particularly Roland's.

      thanks a lot, Karl! playing with them both is very stimulating! (and I don't remember what Roland had for lunch that day, but yeah, was he on fire, oh lord!!)

      thanks so much! this was an intense & very fun evening! I'd love to jam with you in an improvised sort of context; Roland and I are working on a collab with a French modular synth player at the moment, I'd love to explore the territories between experimental electronica & free jazz further! where are you based again?

    Such a great Performance, looks like it'd be a fun time for anyone getting to see it live! Always love seeing the progression and how you'll each correspondingly get heavier or lighter depending on what's needed 👌👏

    • @urbulibaba
      @urbulibaba  หลายเดือนก่อน

      thanks Prof! it was a very fun evening, to be honest! feels nice playing with new musicians (and the free jazz arena is rather vast, counter-intuitively enough, with as many different approaches as they're musicians, which is a great thing of course!) Argh, yeah, I noticed the links don't work, what am I doing wrong? i tried again, it won't turn into a blue link, as it normally does... :/

    Is this the start of your tour?

    • @urbulibaba
      @urbulibaba  หลายเดือนก่อน

      leider nicht... I'm postponing the tour project until we find some more decent dates and opportunities.. I know of a couple small venues we could play at (like this one), but it wouldn't be enough to cover the expense of having Kirk and Brian come over all the way from the US... :/
