    I'm so happy I saw your video. I bought 5 new rose bush's this year. They had just started to bloom. They were very full of buds. I was so excited. Because these were fragrant roses. And expensive. Can out one morning and every flower and bud's were gone. No idea what ate them. But I don't want that to happen again. So thanks for sharing your idea and you great video.

    WHERE HAVE YOU BEEN ALL MY GARDENING LIFE!!!! The squirrels have decimated my kale and carrots on my porch. They just keep digging no matter how much cayenne pepper I sprinkle. When the rain washes it away it is literally a wrap! Thank you for this DIY video. I ordered some chicken wire a week ago and I’m still waiting for it to come in, and I’m glad I saw your video to learn how to install it. Thank you again!

    Note: Zip ties are pretty expensive and break down after a few seasons. Light gauge wire will do the trick just as well. And it's reusable . . . and you've got the wirecutters already.
    Wondering how your cage does when the pants get bigger and wilder than you expected. Have you extended them midseason?

    • @aeremthirteen2771
      @aeremthirteen2771  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Good questions. The cage was built for the max sizes Ive personally encountered with how I do the peppers and tomatoes. No more than a hobbyist here. I havent needed to resize in the years Ive used this technique, as usually the plants' sizes are limited by the pot anyway.
      As for the zip ties? Its what I had, 😆
      I was more focused trying to convey the general idea of the cylinder protection since it worked wonders for me!

    Hello-thank you so much for your video on the potted plant cage. I am new to container gardening this year and it has all of a sudden dawned on me that I failed to think about the squirrels and the birds that I feed . I even have 6 bird houses up on the side of the house with baby birds so the area is very active . Anyways I became very worried 😦 and was extremely concerned. I have 18 -5 gallon buckets of peppers 🫑 and tomatoes 🍅 planted and more on the way. So I was trying to come up with a plan with no luck. Until I seen your video . Thank you so much 😊! You really saved the day here in South Carolina.

    This was a very good idea. I feed the squirrels and birds year around on my apartment deck but I also grow vegetables and needed to know how I could do both. My only concern now is how to anchor those pots and cages so 70 mph storms don't blow them across the deck.

    • @aeremthirteen2771
      @aeremthirteen2771  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks so much for the kind words! And good luck.
      We do get storms where I live, and they can be severe, and a couple of times per year can be tornadic. I dont know exactly how well this would do in the worst cases, but I can vouch for the pot, if heavy enough, being a great anchor.
      Also, the wind doesn't put too much force on it since it's filled with holes. I would consider placing them by a corner or other barrier/railing/deck-side for safety if wind would be a concern in this, as you can not only get support by placement, but then also have more anchoring options close by.

    Question: instead of making an access door, do you think it would be possible to do a few vertical cuts around the bottom of the bottom cylinder, fold the wire mesh out so it lays flat on the ground, and put bricks on it to hold it in place? And then you could lift the whole cage off the top of the plant to access it, and then put the whole cage back in place?

    • @aeremthirteen2771

    • @rstrouts
      @rstrouts 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Enough bobby pins (or longer drip irrigation tubing stakes or ???) staked around bottom row of the chicken wire and then pushed down to ground level so rabbits, squirrels, etc can't push them up and out of the ground? Or along with the vertical cuts mentioned in your post to make it stronger and also keep the rascals from digging under then to the plants. Or maybe a sign saying, "Rabbits and Squirrels, Stay Away!" Or... Somebody stop me! :)
