A Friendship Among Older Riders That Came Out of Nowhere

- As I sat in a parking lot, gathering the last of my courage to tackle a gnarly loose-gravel road that leads to the Alvord Desert in southeastern Oregon, a rider rolled up on a BMW 1250 GS Trophy. I knew almost immediately this would be a day I’d never forget. It was my first real adventure on my 2024 Triumph Tiger 900 Rally Pro, and it didn’t disappoint. In all I rode over 2,000 miles through four states on this adventure - Oregon, California, Nevada and Washington.

You have to be in the right mindset to do that sort of thing, so don't be unnecessarily hard on yourself for turning back the first time. Great video.
Sometimes moments in life surprise you and become good memories. When we push ourselves or stretch that barrier we give ourselves to stay safe. I was in the same area about the same time as you. Being prepared is paramount especially when you travel alone. I’m 75 and I’m always solo. Carry an Inreach and the regular other supplies including food and water.
Me- "I hate gravel. Unless you're riding with me, and then it turns into a game of Catch Me/Chase You!" "Sensei, I'm scared." "Then you'll just have to do it scared." Good video that scratches that deep surface of finding yourself on a road both alone, and with another. When the day doesn't feel right, go with that. Thanks, Bug!
Michael got me into off road riding 4 years ago. He’s a good dude and fun to adventure with.

I grew up in Northern Nevada, and have been out there. Grant you, that was a long time ago, on my Bultaco Frontera! I grew up desert riding, and have a fondness for those alkali flats, and have moto camped many nights in those cool places. Glad that you got out there to show the world its mysterious beauty! 😎

Absolutely stellar! You are really starting to push yourself ... adventuring 2,000 miles and grabbing the moment. I met a man back in 2007 at a gas station in Robbinsville, TN. I was riding from Michigan back to see family and friends in Florida. Mike and I, to this day, get together twice a year for road trips or just shooting the breeze. Betting you two stay in touch.

@@NedRochford I met a guy on a Guzzi in Salt Lake City in 1988 who was heading to the east coast when I was riding alone from Nevada to Indiana. We hit it off, headed east and split up near St Louis. He and I were both into air cooled VWs, as well as bikes. We are still in contact, and did a ride together from California to Texas five years ago. We hope to get together and ride the Colorado BDR this year before we are too old and worn out😜. Sometimes the friendships last a lifetime👍

Inspired video my friend. Sometimes the universe gives you something just at the perfect moment, for you it was a new friend that gave you both the ability to open the courage locked within.
What a wonderful video! The wrestling with oneself to take a step forward that fear stopped momentarily. Then to take inventory of the situation and turn what seemed to be a failure into a success. Thanks for sharing the human emotion of discovery of both the scenery and making a new friend. This was uplifting and wish you many more rides that fulfill your continued adventures on a motorcycle. Bloody brilliant adventure!
The first time you do something, it can be hard to do. Your mind tries to guess what it will be like, but it is always wrong. Once you do it, you think, oh that wasn’t so bad. That’s because you imagined it to be worse. Now that you have done it, it will be much easier.
