It's an awesome helper!
I'm torn about that splitter company and I think its valid criticism. Any time a company makes and sells a part as an "upgrade" for a part that wasn't (in my opinion) engineered right, it kinda sticks in my craw. If that stock plate was designed in a way where pieces are falling through, that's a design flaw and a better designed part should be made a stock replacement and not sold as an upgrade. I know that's an added cost to the company to replace those, but I feel that right there is the definition of truly standing behind your product.
I see it completely different, the standard log catch works for stopping rounds from hitting the operator. But it also allows adequate room for a larger operator or someone who desires the room to maneuver. Me being smaller, the new plate works great, but if I had a bigger belly or was a bigger person, I don't think it would work for me. I guess there's no one perfect solution to a lot of things in life. At the end of the day, my main concern would be quality materials and hydraulics. This has that. It's kind of nice you can see options and build to suit you instead of getting a cookie cutter design like at the big box stores. I'm doing that right now with an equipment trailer.
@@TKCL yeah would be real cool if that was a build out option. That would be a good way to compromise on that.
@@hammerslap5639 these are built to suit. That's the beauty of talking directly with the owner. Call and ask for what you want and they can design it and build it to your needs.

I usually keep a 32oz tumbler with me full of water. I'll refill it a time or two doing this.

You need to create an area around the splitter to air condition it powered by solar. You can use the thick strip "curtains" that companies use on their refrigerator and freezer areas to have access to bring wood in and out. By the way, any updates on the homemade icemaker this year? I hope it is working out as well as last year.
Oh boy that does sound nice! As for the ice maker, it's working perfectly fine. I use it many times a week.
I saw a real big blower in the shed. Not sure if you have a Menards store close but we have big floor pedestal fans like 36” that are masterforce brand that work good for the money
We don't have those stores here.
Hi Andrew, Nice job! Nice equipment to make the job easier. Maybe you need a mister attached to your fan to cool you off but then again probably it won't help if it's humid. I noticed that if you are splitting larger log 12:57, the blade split the top part of the larger log larger and you have to split those with two more stroke. Since you have welder, just wondering if you weld an additional horizontal blade on top of the other horizontal one so that you can split the logs smaller in one motion. It can save you time and wear and tear of your splitter.
I have their Animal gas powered splitter with hydraulic wedge as my personal splitter. It's perfect for adjusting the split size. I have considered different wdge wing placement on the tractor splitter.
oh man, put you some magnetic lasers on the boom of that excavator to shine laser lines down to the logs. would be so perfect lol. heck even just 2-3 cheap laser pointers on either side of the boom ha just line em up so it puts a red/green dot every however many inches and never use the spray roller thing again.

hi Andrew, I like your videos when at the end of this last video I saw with you chopping wood with your excavator holding the log at the end of it. You talked about needing fans. You should check with some other farms around you. They have a fan that bolts to the wall with a bracket for dairy farms, and for showing cattle or livestock at a fair, that would probably work for you
I'm considering something like that.

Can you limit the travel on the ram ? looks like it would do 24" so if you can cut down cycle time it would be a good thing.
Yes I could with bolts through the beams or a stroke limiter on the cylinder shaft.
I use squirrel cages (central unit fan/blower) in my shop or if I have to work on equipment in the field if I have available power. Makes a huge difference for sure

Coming eventually, that's a big reason for the excavator. Next year's production should be amazing.
Suggestion for you to keep your Thumb in good shape. DO NOT use it as a load bearing device. No thumb is designed to be used that way. As soon as you pick something up rotate your bucket to load the weight on the bucket and only use the thumb to hold it from moving. By pinching a log and hanging it straight down like you were to cut the logs or move the logs is going to wear that thumb out Much faster......
that 2 cents and $5.98 should get you a Big Mac and frys at Mack an Dees Crack House...

You have the skillz, make a metal one like a windmill that can be moved (on a low cart) on the shop side or end depending on which way the winds moving from, a grate on the blade side and a motor with a belt, throw a few panels on it and Bobs yer uncle! I have never seen a pedestal fan worth a plug nickel

if you're so worried about your back, might i suggest that you stop worrying about getting sawdust on you and stop being stooped over and off to the side? This is why I got a 36 inch blade on my chainsaw, not that I cut anything big, I just don't want to bend forward, my back is already bady. our probably going to aggravate your back doing that? well, at least you took the wasps in stride like a man heheh
I was doing that bending over to keep distance away from the saw since I wasn't wearing chaps. People always complaining so it's usually in the back of my mind. I do have a much larger saw with a longer bar.

You must have a tiny fireplace splitting this stuff so small !!!
Not many fireplaces in Florida. We cook with our wood and burn outside fires in pits. Small wood makes coal beds faster and dries faster.. The oak I split would take two years to season if split in large boiler pieces.
No need to season oak !!! We would burn it the day after cutting and splitting!!! Only reason to season anything is to sell and it burns so quick that they have to by more !!!
@@KellyLeopard completely disagree with you. You obviously don't have water soaked oak like we do in Florida. I have shown many times you can cut it and watch it pour water for hours after cutting. It's off the charts on moisture meters after splitting and doesn't have an acceptable dry moisture percentage until 1-2 years later after being split and dried. It would take an extremely hot coal bed to burn our oak green. I don't see how that's acceptable for anyone.

Awesome video, I've actually been talking to larry about splitters. I'm sorry I don't remember did you do a time trial with the 21gpm pump. Also will you be going to the Paul Bunyan show this year in oct?
That's a long travel for me, probably won't make it although I hear a lot about that show. With the 10 gpm pump, cycle time was somewhere between 10-12 seconds. With the 21 gpm pump it was a much faster 6 second cycle time. I did make a video on this a while ago. Take care!

@@outdoorswithandy732 the Animal. Even though it's slower in cycle time, the raw power, ability to run 4/6 way and the hydraulic wedge makes it perfect for me. It's a beast and allows me to fine tune my split size. Plus I sometimes split huge knotty oak, it has the power for that as well.

Thanks for the video. I just bought a new Kioti tractor for my property this spring. I am now in the market for a log splitter and this definitely caught my eye. My question is…have you considered the hours you’re going to put on the tractor using this as opposed to a self-contained log splitting set up. After looking at used tractors for the better part of the year, how many hours on a tractor definitely affect the resale. Having a self-contained splitter would avoid all that. Just a question as the splitter looked like a pretty sweet set up. Thanks.
Yes I have. I personally prefer a gas powered machine. That's why I personally own their "Animal". It's driven by a Honda gx390, has a hydraulic wedge, can run a 4 or 6 way wedge and is powerful enough for my largest oaks. I'll reply with a video of it, many are on the channel.

Looks like you need to sharpen your chainsaw blade.
Chain... That's a very old worn out saw with used chains that's been sharpened over and over. It does well for its small size and age.
