Jade then disappeared entirely in MKX with no explanation as to where she went in between games. I've even heard some theories that Jade was killed off offscreen, as evident due to one of Kitana's variations has her using Jade'z weapons. But no, Jade somehow returned in MK11 with no explanation as to where she went in MKX. If anything, Smoke was more like Stryker, as both of them got killed in MK9, were turned into Revenants, remained as Revenants in MKX, of which neither of them were playable in said game, and were completely absent in MK11 with no explanation as to where they were in that game.
I feel sorry for Ermac since the guy has to serve against his will until the spell that compels him breaks hold over him and only then is Ermac free to chose his own destiny which happened in the original timeline and as for the new 3rd timeline it’s looking like it’s gonna happen again.

Basically, a cult sacrificed him as a child and became a Enenra causing him to kill the cultists and transformed into his human form and losing all his memories. He fines out his true destiny but ultimately dies by Sindel in story mode.
Personally I think his MK3 story arc was more tragic. He watched his clan fall apart and instead of getting saved like Cyrax, he became the slave of his best friend's revanent brother. His life was a continuous downfall.
