I genuinely don't get the hate for guest characters in Mortal Kombat or in any game. Like how is having guest characters like these not objectively cool?
Is it obvious, adding guest characters meaning they take away slot from the actual characters in the franchise. Don't get me wrong, I love guest characters but I do understand why some people hate it.
I’m not opposed to guest characters in general, but I think the amount we get per game is a little high. Having half of all DLC be guests feels like a lot
Homelander's moveset is boring on paper but the fact that all his moves cancel into flight makes him one of the most unique nrs characters even counting injustice. At any moment you are able to fly, cancel moves into flight and do air combos or continue existing combos. The trailers they showed for Homelander shows how complex and fun they made him. Imo he's far from boring, unlike omni man
I would argue Omni-man is more dynamic as a character. He feels supersonic in all he does. The way Homelander’s moves are coded and key-bonded are unnecessarily complex, and his “dash” is too slow to convey the power behind it.

@@lightmohamed5700 true, "old" kratos has way more depth than people give him credit for. it's kinda silly mechanically, but also really telling that the hardest "mash O" quicktime event in the entire series is the one where he has to push his daughter away again just after reuniting in Chains Of Olympus. younger Kratos gets way too much disrespect.

It's unfortunate that Freddy Krueger got the design from 2010 and got no voice lines. Especially since in every other way Freddy Krueger references the Englund movies.
The license holders are very very very keen on keeping OG Freddy from seeing the light of day. Dead by Daylight, literally a horror based asymmetrical game, couldn’t get the OG Freddy model or Robert Englund voice.
You know who’d be a solid pick would be Candyman. Between the hook he has, his levitation ability and the swarm of bees in his jacket, there’s potential for a great moveset.
It bugs me how Kratos is the only video game guest character in MK so far. The rest after that is just a movies and tv shows characters (that count for those comics characters as well they all have movie and tv shows). Video game characters imo is lot more badass and cool to be added in MK compare to this movies/tv shows. The likes of Doom Slayer, Alex Mercer, Ryu Hayabusa, Pyramid Head, Dante, Vergil, Kain, Raziel, War, Death, Fury, Strife, Bayonetta, Bloodborne Hunter, Sweet Tooth, and many more...all this video games characters will be epic as hell if they were in MK.
I highly doubt bayonetta would appear due to how Nintendo is stingy with their characters I feel like Travis or Prince Fu would be better in my opinion.

The Joker came out at a time where the public was going through major super hero burnout, specially with Batman and everything surrounding him. Joker was once such a mysterious character, so seeing him appear so much so frequently (multiple cameos, Jared Leto's Joker, the polarizing solo Joker movie, Injustice 2, the Gotham show, Joker was just in too much stuff sharing way too much information) killed the magic of the character, and people started to get sick of the deranged clown and his Edgy fans. So seeing him appear again, in another cameo, and looking nothing like the appearance of any of the Jokers audiences actually liked (let's just say it everyone wanted Heath Ledger), left a bad taste in a lot of people's mouths. But, for me, his MK appearance is S tier; he looks like a modernized version of the old school clown King of crime, elegant yet grimy like a Tommy gun weilding mafioso. The level of violence in MK fits him so much more than that of Injustice's, letting his personality shine. And, while the costumes don't have cool references to other portrayals of the Joker, they do feel good on this version of the character. I dunno, just playing clown capo dressup and giving him a bunch of different cool suits just makes him feel like an organized crime warlord who actually has and moves money. I like when the Joker feels like someone who actually has power and influence, a lot of versions of the jonkler feel like they are broke and sleep in a cardboard box but somehow they pull expensive tech, weapons and goons out of thin air? This guy feels like his goons have health insurance, this one looks like he has a personal tailor and cane maker. And the bat puppet is *chef's kiss* perfect.
@@wyatth2992 there was a lot of discussion at the time and a lot of people disliked it for various reasons. Some die-hard comic fans disliked that the film wasn't an adaptation of an already stablished origin story, but a re-invention of the character. Others criticised it for not being explicit enough with the overall message of the film, as a lot of people missinterpreted it as if the protagonist was right and thus his actions justified, we all remember how the character was co-opted by waves of incels and sigmas that clearly didn't have enough media literacy to understand the film, much like with American Psycho. Some Snyderverse fans were mad because it wasn't part of the Snyderverse and thus saw it as a waste of time and resources, and a sign that they weren't gonna have a snyderverse Joker movie, at least any time soon. I for one, loved the movie because of this reasons. The Joker's origin lore in the comics is convoluted and honestly stupid, so I liked the new take. I also liked that it demanded attention from the viewer to understand it properly, and I specially liked that it had nothing to do with the Snyderverse lmao. But at the time, and specially before release, it was kinda controversial.

Even though I don’t like MK1 with the whole timeline reset, the Kombat pack imo was the best I’ve seen in years. Adding both Homelander and Omniman in the same pack, when they easily could’ve put them in separate packs, was a generous move.

The Joker was the second biggest surprise of MK11, besides KP3 that dropped out of literally nowhere; considering the superhero fatigue started around that time, how bad he was done in INJ2 and how much people wanted Ash Williams, NRS had to realy put the work to make people like him, and they nailed it. Not only is he fun to play, but also easy to pick up and realy good, top tier for most pros if I recall.
I really love the character Predator, and I've watched the movie multiple times. Netherrealm did an excellent job in bringing him to a fighting game. His moves, combos, interactions, finishers, and ending were all thrilling to experience. He became my main character when I played the game.
You know, thinking about Michael Jai White who played Spawn in the 90s movie, I think Black Dynamite would be hilarious guest character. The movie and cartoon probably aren't famous enough, but he's such a silly over the top character I could see him having some fun fatalities and moves
For more guests characters I would liked it if Freddy Krueger appeared again to show off more of his personality, but other characters would be John Wick, Chainsaw Man, and Akuma. I just watched an hour and 20 minutes of this video to make sure you put Rambo in S tier and I’m so glad you did. Never been huge into Mortal Kombat but I’ve played the injustice games. But I bought and am playing Mortal Kombat 11 for Rambo and I am so impressed with him! Cant pit it down now.
Spawn is may favorite guest character in MK, his gameplay is very in tune to how he fights in the comics, and the fact that they got Keith David to play Spawn, who voiced him in the animated series is one of the best things that Netherrealm has done.
i dont know if any tf2 characters would really make sense because they don't ever use anything other than guns or ranged projectiles generally. the only person to use his fists is heavy and pyro technically with the hot hand. although there might be things in the tf2 comics i don't know about

I had an idea for a guest character that I think would probably be nearly impossible to pull off, but probably one of the greatest guest characters ever if they pulled it off, now when people bring up Myers and Chucky as guest characters they both have individual flaws, Myers not talking and also not having a super unique moveset just being a guy with a knife, and Chucky’s physical size, but what I realized is that Myers and Chucky make up for each other’s flaws when put together in a Ferra/Torr type of way, Chucky and Myers working together, Chucky gives Myers a voice, personality, and more moveset potential, and Myers allows for a normal sized character for the opponent to fight against, just imagine Chucky riding on Myer’s back, hell they could explain it with Chucky spreading his soul into Myers in order to control him as an ultimate weapon so he can become a God, it would work so well and honestly would be so iconic
For me the best guest coming to MK was Joker. I love to play as him and the insane bizarre moveset. I mean, really? A puppet and hostages!? That was something that no one else but Joker could do.

Just want to point out that the Xenomorph is a her. All Xenomorphs are female. There was only ever 1 male, and he was a comic exclusive and was created by a scientist to fight a queen. Any Xenomorph can molt into a queen if none are around so she is a her.
Awesome list, can't wait for when the next pack comes out for an updated version.. I'm a huge fan of horror and the guests are what got me into MK... IMO would switch Leatherface and Jason. At least in terms of faithfulness, I find Jason's visual mix n match of different movie designs to be odd, and I normally think of Kane Hodders depiction of Jason, being angry and moving with determination... Mks version moves more like Myers, more stoic and empty, rather than Rage filled. Leatherface is done nearly perfectly, from the little details like him hitting himself to the nasty finishers and brutalities... I was very impressed playing as him
My only wish for Joker is the VA. No shade to Raidens actor, he did a good job. But Mark Hamill is one of my absolute favorite vocal performances for the character, that would have made him truly perfect to me.

And you should have seen the excitement when we put Predator vs Xenomorph together for a battle. We played more guest characters than the actual canon characters for like a week, my dad's a huge movie nerd and he wanted so many of those movie pair ups, I let him kick my ass in the game just to give him the excitment of seeing the Terminator beating the crap out of Robocop

Some die-hard comic fans disliked that the film wasn't an adaptation of an already stablished origin story, but a re-invention of the character. Others criticised it for not being explicit enough with the overall message of the film, as a lot of people missinterpreted it as if the protagonist was right and thus his actions justified, we all remember how the character was co-opted by waves of incels and sigmas that clearly didn't have enough media literacy to understand the film, much like with American Psycho. Some Snyderverse fans were mad because it wasn't part of the Snyderverse and thus saw it as a waste of time and resources, and a sign that they weren't gonna have a snyderverse Joker movie, at least any time soon. I for one, loved the movie because of this reasons. The Joker's origin lore in the comics is convoluted and honestly stupid, so I liked the new take. I also liked that it demanded attention from the viewer to understand it properly, and I specially liked that it had nothing to do with the Snyderverse lmao. But at the time, and specially before release, it was kinda controversial.

Even though I don’t like MK1 with the whole timeline reset, the Kombat pack imo was the best I’ve seen in years. Adding both Homelander and Omniman in the same pack, when they easily could’ve put them in separate packs, was a generous move.

The Joker was the second biggest surprise of MK11, besides KP3 that dropped out of literally nowhere; considering the superhero fatigue started around that time, how bad he was done in INJ2 and how much people wanted Ash Williams, NRS had to realy put the work to make people like him, and they nailed it. Not only is he fun to play, but also easy to pick up and realy good, top tier for most pros if I recall.

I really love the character Predator, and I've watched the movie multiple times. Netherrealm did an excellent job in bringing him to a fighting game. His moves, combos, interactions, finishers, and ending were all thrilling to experience. He became my main character when I played the game.

I just watched an hour and 20 minutes of this video to make sure you put Rambo in S tier and I’m so glad you did. Never been huge into Mortal Kombat but I’ve played the injustice games. But I bought and am playing Mortal Kombat 11 for Rambo and I am so impressed with him! Cant pit it down now.
Spawn is may favorite guest character in MK, his gameplay is very in tune to how he fights in the comics, and the fact that they got Keith David to play Spawn, who voiced him in the animated series is one of the best things that Netherrealm has done.

i dont know if any tf2 characters would really make sense because they don't ever use anything other than guns or ranged projectiles generally. the only person to use his fists is heavy and pyro technically with the hot hand. although there might be things in the tf2 comics i don't know about

I had an idea for a guest character that I think would probably be nearly impossible to pull off, but probably one of the greatest guest characters ever if they pulled it off, now when people bring up Myers and Chucky as guest characters they both have individual flaws, Myers not talking and also not having a super unique moveset just being a guy with a knife, and Chucky’s physical size, but what I realized is that Myers and Chucky make up for each other’s flaws when put together in a Ferra/Torr type of way, Chucky and Myers working together, Chucky gives Myers a voice, personality, and more moveset potential, and Myers allows for a normal sized character for the opponent to fight against, just imagine Chucky riding on Myer’s back, hell they could explain it with Chucky spreading his soul into Myers in order to control him as an ultimate weapon so he can become a God, it would work so well and honestly would be so iconic

All Xenomorphs are female. There was only ever 1 male, and he was a comic exclusive and was created by a scientist to fight a queen. Any Xenomorph can molt into a queen if none are around so she is a her.

I'm a huge fan of horror and the guests are what got me into MK... IMO would switch Leatherface and Jason.
At least in terms of faithfulness, I find Jason's visual mix n match of different movie designs to be odd, and I normally think of Kane Hodders depiction of Jason, being angry and moving with determination... Mks version moves more like Myers, more stoic and empty, rather than Rage filled.
Leatherface is done nearly perfectly, from the little details like him hitting himself to the nasty finishers and brutalities... I was very impressed playing as him
1984 Arnold would've been a good choice to be in this game..
My only wish for Joker is the VA. No shade to Raidens actor, he did a good job. But Mark Hamill is one of my absolute favorite vocal performances for the character, that would have made him truly perfect to me.

And you should have seen the excitement when we put Predator vs Xenomorph together for a battle. We played more guest characters than the actual canon characters for like a week, my dad's a huge movie nerd and he wanted so many of those movie pair ups, I let him kick my ass in the game just to give him the excitment of seeing the Terminator beating the crap out of Robocop
