      This is a MOMENT where he realised what his mother actually is ...
      and
      That they in their HOUSE their entire Life lived like a PUPPETS in her crazy Narisisstic dream trance.
      and he accepted
      entire responsibility of his actions - and
      to go to prieson.Thats why Karl RESPONDE :
      " What a Man !"
      A mama's boy
      died there
      ...and
      A responsible man got born.

    This scene sums up the movie.
    Frank never wanted the money to be glamorous or wealthy himself. In his 17 year old boy's mind, he thought getting the money his father lost causing the divorce of his parents would make her mother want to be with his father again.
    His dad is dead and her mother already has a family. The money is not worthy anymore for him. His starting goal failed.

    Wow. The emotion put into this scene reminds me why Leo is going to be considered one of the greatest actors in history. That's probably one of the most scariest things a person can go through, realizing your mother does not care about you anymore. Then when he goes to jail and you can see the fear he faces of being alone right before he enters the cell. Isolation can drive the sane man into insanity. The director did a phenomenal job.

  • @Nevi234
    @Nevi234 8 ปีที่แล้ว +473

    tbh I thought this movie was just alright, decently above average, until the last 30-40 minutes. This movie got heavy. Frank Abagnale is such a great, fleshed out character that now I treat this movie as more of a character study(my favorite kind of movies).
    The reason why he does all this makes sense, he has a clear motive. He wants to have his family back, he wants his parents to be together, he wants to be happy again and basically thinks that money is the only way to do it(since the IRS taking away their home is what started it all). He's so good at being in impostor because, in many ways, that's who his dad was. And being someone else all the time really messed him up. You can see throughout the film that his loneliness is consuming him. He starts calling Carl because he's the only person he can talk to, the only person who knows who he actually is. Even his parents didn't know the extent of his crimes until much later and whenever he saw his father he was still pretending(and very desperate to "fix things"). He keeps running because he keeps longing for his family and their happiness and their pride in him. Then finally when he sees this.. his mother basically having moved on, forgetting about him. It all gets crushed; he can barely stand looking at it("Carl, get me in the car, please"). Later when he starts working for the FBI he's totally lost because for once, he's not being an impostor. Frank's been pretending for so long that he doesn't know how to be himself anymore; it makes him uncomfortable, out of his element, and he feels the urge to run away again. But the fact that no one is chasing him, that he has to reason to gain more money since the remainder of his family has all but abandoned him, that he'll just end up right back in jail, completely alone, is enough to dissuade him to stay with Carl(who's another story entirely). And Leo portrays all these emotions so fucking well, his performance was great.

    This scene reminds me of Great Gatsby, where Gatsby’s standing at the end of the dock reaching for the green light. Chasing a dream that is just out of reach. It’s kind of a shame how women like her call herself a mother and wife and all she is is a Golddigger

    Frank had to face reality that you know he wanted to get his family back together but in reality it just didn’t work that way

      Franks father was also no virtuous man, he did lots of frauds, and he is the one who taughts Frank how to make fake checks, pratice he would master later. I think its actually what the movie is showing, Frank family is destined to fail, because they were always flawed to begin with and the consequences of bad familiar structure is what made Frank a criminal. Frank get a new family at the end in the form of Carl, a really virtous man that deeply cares about him, Frank didn't care about money or status as their parents cleary did, he just wanted to see his family united, Carl was the same, he didnt wanted to caught Frank for fame or anything like that, he just wanted his job done, also Carl cared about his family even divorced, and for Carl the concept of family is so important that he took the job of other officials in christmans, so they could pass their time with their families. Carl had more in common with Frank than their parents, thats why made him a better parental figure for Frank.

      It could BE his step sister. Just because the girl considers her as mom means nothing. Mom was super old in the film. Would be more logical if it was her step daughter... but movies love people popping out babies soooo

    • @malificajones7674
      @malificajones7674 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@IllHandleThis The implication is definitely that she's his half-sister from the way Frank watches her.
      Also, the actress might look old, but going by the dates used in the film, it was entirely possible that the mother had another child.
      She meets the father in France at the end of WW2: 1945 - aged 18 approx.
      Frank discovers her affair and runs away: 1963 - 18 years later, which makes her 36.
      It's highly likely that Frank Snr married her and knocked her up asap. So the dates certainly do make it likely that she's the mother of the little girl.
