Smash Run should’ve been an Online Mode or even a Regular Mode in Ultimate.
It would’ve been super great if you could at least interact with the other players

It deserves all the love ans then some. Classic mode and WOL are both filled to the brim with fanservice and love for video games history, but unlike smash run, you hardly feel the need to go back and play it again. Smash run was super fun to replay over and over again. Having this on console with proper multiplayer would have been the best mode in smash history hands down..... except maybe for Subspace for me. xD
@Jakkar Wok the 3ds version ran at a near solid 60 I have no clue what you're on but it was definitely better than wii u, better stages and low input lag versus muh HD
I imagine that they didn't add Street Fighter 2 to the Masterpieces seeing as Ryu was DLC
Also I can't imagine a fighting game plays well to a limited time limit. Either you essentially get the whole experience for free or you get cut off halfway through a tense match and feel cheated.
Also in the case of Sonic Genesis games weren’t on Wii U VC. It’s lame but ain’t the fault of the smash team.

Okay, but can we talk about how clean the finale of World of Light is?
You make your way up the Galeem and Dharkon through a horde of spirits, with the background constantly shifting based on who you defeat. Then you take control of _Master Hand_ and plow through waves of goons. Then you go up against Galeem and Dharkon, except they don't entirely work together, because their attacks can hit each other, and they'll skewer the other when they get stunned.
To recap, you first fight your way up while balancing light and dark, then _control Master Hand,_ then take place in a free-for-all with two primordial beings.
My only gripe with the finale is that you can't replay the master hand fight unless you replay the whole thing
ShermTank7272 Or you copy the save file when you get there and, whenever you want to redo it, copy it to the third slot (although that is FAR more work than it should be just to redo one match)
DrPumpkinz Subspace was still better. WoL had so much fluff and all the matches became pushovers when you learn of Bowser+Voltfish+Medusa.

Smash Tour is the type of mode you play when you get something to eat and don’t wanna leave the game running
Smash Tour is basically a combination of a poor man’s version of Mario Party and Smash Bros.

But at the same time, Smash 4 started up the popularity of many Smash TH-camrs, so it still deserves acknowledgement

My first Super smash Bros game was the 3DS version and the game mode in that game wasn’t half bad. Collecting stats in a big map with multiple enemies from different games was very fun for me.
I don’t really think that’s enough to say it deserves acknowledgement.
The beauty of Smash is that you can go on an epic quest to save dozens of game worlds and thousands of characters from two all-mighty deities representing light and darkness, and then two minutes later you can beat up a sandbag for fun.
To be fair, the sandbag enjoys it too.
I really miss the loud voice of N64: "BREAK THE TARGETS!!" and "BOARD THE PLATFORMS!!"

I miss Smash Run so much, it's why I play Smash 3DS still, and why it's my favorite version of Smash. I also like how Classic was handled on the 3DS, but that's just me, and the final battle against Master Core was fun.
There is a part of me that hopes that after this last batch of DLC, They decide to make an updated Smash Run mode for Ultimate, maybe if they see they have enough room to add it, but, like Shantae getting in, I'm not holding my breath for that. And I already know that Sakurai said that Home Run contest was pretty much the last mode we'd get, but I can only hope.
With enough voice and support, we could get a petition running to send Sakurai a message that people in fact want a mode like Smash Run in Ultimate

I think world of light is great personally. I really loved all the clever ways they represented characters using a mix of characters, items, abilities, and stage hazards. It was fun figuring out why each fight was the way it was
While not a "mode" I have been liking the reveal trailers that Smash has been doing since Smash 4 (Brawl if you count their Subspace introductions).
They actually did a couple trailers.

I've always cared for Miis since the Wii Days.
While sans by itself is great I believe adding a song to the character pushed people to actually want to buy it. Megalovania in Smash? Sign me up.
I'm glad you came around to Spirits like me and hopefully a lot of other people did. I'd still like another attempt at a full platformer-style Adventure Mode, but I think it shouldn't be undersold how Spirits is a long overdue evolution to the Event mode, which kind of felt like it was mostly doing the same stuff since Melee.
What they could maybe do is make spirit gauntlet events: themed spirit battles chained together, ending with a battle exclusive to said gauntlet. Basically limited time classic modes not restricted to specific characters: the reward would be a special spirit referencing said gauntlet, and after initial launch, would rarely randomly appear on the spirit board.
Idk, they kind of regressed with the fact that the objective of every spirit battle is to defeat the opponent, whereas previous events had other goals that allowed for more creativity
@@nate-rs8090 We only really got a handful of alternate win conditions in each game, and they weren't always winners. Remember Kirby's Crazy Appetite? I'll pass on more of that shit, thanks.
Spirit battles are fun, but collecting jpegs will never be as satisfying as trophies.
I just wish they had like a sentence or two about the character. I will never forget booting up Ultimate for the first time and the game telling me “Congratulations! You unlocked Mathew!” Apparently he’s from the Golden Sun games, but that’s all I know about him.

I agree, and it's why I put far less time into Smash 4 and Ultimate then Melee or even Brawl: I play Smash primarily alone, and I enjoy it as a suite of content with different modes, and both 4 and ultimate are very lacking for anything that's not the core Smash gameplay.
The VS mode is the most important mode though. That's not even arguable really.
That's why Ultimate didn't waste a ton of resources on 50+ CGI cutscenes. They put that time into the mode most people play Smash for instead.

Time for me to show my bias, my favorite route in classic mode is Terry's, because they used the 3 team mechanic of Smash to replicate The King of Fighters, and that's awesome!
And the teams are really creative too!

i actually loved world of light. while it will never hold a candle to subspace emissary in brawl or even the adventure mode from melee, it was epic in its own right. i feel like your mistake was going for the 100%. i can totally understand it feeling tedious then. if you are just playing it casually and only going for the ending, it feels way more like an actual campaign mode. also, not sure why people always say the spirit upgrades barely matter. with the right combo, you could totally change up a characters play style. turn bowser from a slow tank to a speed king with amazing harrassment potential.
Sure, the Spirits might be a downgrade in some areas, but you gotta realize that a lot of spirits have art that isn't easy to find anymore, or is quite old. It's nice to have these older art pieces in high quality.
The funny thing is that with the 8.0.0 patch, he gets what he wants with spirits

I definitely really like how all of the classic modes in ultimate were themed too each character. It is made it fun to go through them and see what inspirations I can recognize.
I think my only major issue with smash Brothers ultimates was that the world of light was not two player. This seems strange to me when spirit board was too player and we found a lot of the same spirits appearing there as in campaign.
we played spirit board so much to begin with because of this limitation, that by the time we got to world of Life it was a hilarious smackdown.
It would have been great if world of lights was a buddy cop adventure of Kirby and Bayonetta saving the universe!

I miss Targets from Melee... That was most of the people's nostalgic childhood with that groovy music.
I like target smash just because it shows you how to use your moves but besides homerun contest and VR smash I love all the modes added in ultimate.

Unless you're sticking to the official games during this Smash "marathon," you should review Smash Flash 2. It's easily the best Smash fangame and one of the best fangames in general
The Masterpiece Demos were linked to the eShop, which is why certain titles didn't appear.
Also, the only third party title that appeared, IIRC, was Pac-Man, which is likely because Namco helped develop it.
Classic Mode in Ultimate is fucking amazing it's so much fun seeing every characters route. However could wish for more variety in each final boss. Obviously having a unique one for every character would be way too much but would be cool if more had like megamans route ended.
Also i love Smash Tour it really puts you to the test to see how well you can adapt to the character you pick up

actually, joker's classic route is cleverer than you think. many people already know, but when you enter a new stage you have a fighter from the previous match as your teammate, which is a nice reference to the fact you can negotiate with shadows and wield them as personas in persona 5.

I feel I should note that two of those Hamtaro games Nintendo did (namely Ham-Hams Unite and Ham-Ham Heartbreak) are actually pretty solid. Miyamoto even had a hand in them too. If you're at all curious, they're worth a look I think.

I wholeheartedly agree that "There's a whole lot more to Smash bros than just the vs mode" and it's why I put far less time into Smash 4 and Ultimate then Melee or even Brawl. I generally play Smash alone, and 4 and Ultimate may be HUGE improvements over Brawl for the core gameplay and character selection, but as a single player experience and having a variety of modes and content, both are lacking.
To be fair, the 3ds version of Smash 4 had a solid single player. The Classic mode was good, and Smash Run was one the best modes in the whole series. It's the Wii U game that was weak on this regard.

I'm so glad modes like Home Run Contest got back into Smash Ultimate as DLC. The side modes in Smash are always some of the most enjoyable parts of a Smash game, unless it's Smash Tour.

I know Sakurai said there won’t be anymore extra modes added in Smash Ultimate, but I wished they had added a boss mode. Choose which boss you want to fight with any character
