    If South East London needs TFL services, here’s suggestions.
    A) Elizabeth Line extension to Gravesend.
    B) DLR extension to Belvedere and Dagenham Dock from Gallions Reach via Thamesmead.
    C) Bakerloo line extension to Beckenham and Hayes.
    D) New Overground service between Cannon Street/Charing Cross and Orpington.

      Its not a case of 'regularly have to close underground stations to avoid deaths from crushing.' That is bs. What may happen during busy periods is access into the station may be temporarily halted for 10-15 mins in order to allow platforms to clear/become less busy &/or routes between platforms may be changed (by opening or closing gates) making it slightly longer for people to get to the platforms.

    Call be crazy but it seems to me that with HS2 and Crossrail 2 there's going to need to be a lot of work at Euston, Euston Square, Kings Cross and St Pancras. With all of the stations so close together it's surely going to make sense to create one big 'Northern Stations Interchange' as it were.
    It's going to be expensive and take a lot of time and disruption but wouldn't this be a sensible time whilst Euston is already up in the air to do the work at Camden to seperate the Northern into two distinct lines and to generally tidy up the lines around the these stations to create one much more useful very high capacity station?

      Call me crazier but considering that LSPI and London Euston will be a terminus of HS1 and HS2 respectively, a highly cost-effective way of linking the two high-speed rail services would be with moving walkways along a 600-metre tunnel.
      The Euston St Pancras station could then be linked to the two railway stations by a perpendicular tunnel, also featuring moving walkways, intersecting the HS1-HS2 tunnel midway.

    • @tom201090
      @tom201090 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@_JohnDoe I can't be certain but I think that will happen. Eventually. HS2 works at Euston have been going on for years...you can see the works travelling in and out of Euston. Initially (and I haven't seen the video yet) Crossrail 2 would be designed to have access to both stations so there would be a link anyway (probably not with moving walkways - it would be nice but they are a lot more expensive and complex to install and maintain). Liverpool Street Crossrail Station does have a fixed link to Moorgate station for access to the Northern line.

  • @fizi247
    @fizi247 2 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    The Crossrail 2 project, will all depend on the success of the Crossrail 1 project.
    Whilst TFL is currently trying to fund a black hole of £1.5B, the Crossrail 1 project could be its saving grace.
    The two busiest lines on the underground network, are currently the Northern line and Central line with a carrying capacity of 294 million and 289 million passengers per annum respectively.
    The current Crossrail 1 project (Elizabeth line) , is expected to carry 200 million passengers per annum.
    Personally, I think this a conservative figure. The Central line is almost parallel to the Elizabeth line, in terms of it running from East to West and cutting through the city and west end and the Elizabeth line will be the preferred option for most commuters who live within the "inner zone influence," of a Crossrail station.
    In comparison to the Central line and the Northern line, the best way to describe the Elizabeth line, is that it has all the standard features of the busiest lines but so much more!
    Wider carriages, longer carriages, shorter journey times, more frequent trains per hour, direct trains to all Heathrow terminals and more.

    The terminus was only a few hundred yards east of Wood Green station now called Alexander Palace.
    The line closed on 7 th Jan 1963
    It really went down hill when the Piccadilly tube line was extended north to Cockfosters from Finsbury park.
    Funny if the rail corridor had my been built on I'm sure by now the line would have had a connection linking Woodgreen to Sevensisters.

    excessive branching is a really bad idea: 4 branches, two for each end is the most each express subway (RER, Crossrail, S-Bahn) should permit. More branches means less frequency, which means that you move away from rapid transit toward commuter rail. Moreover, more branches means that the risk of incidents/delays is heightened.

    • @yourpalcal1412

    If it ever does happen, the line should not run either by Balham or Tooting but via the place that is and always has been missed out by Public Transport and that is Wandsworth High Street. Wandsworth has no centralised rail station (both "Town" and "Common" are a long way from the High Street. It has no Underground service either. In the past, it missed out on Green Line Coach Services and most people living there have had (as they still do now) to rely on just buses. You can guarantee that any hair brained transport idea featuring rail always misses out Wandsworth. It's about time this changed.

      Your anger is justified, but when they are doing the numbers, they look at ROI.
      They feel for every pound they spend in London, they might be able to get £3 back (e.g.).
      If they spend it in Leeds, they might be able to get £1.50 or £2 back (e.g.).
      Then they look at how much it will cost to transport 1,000 a day (e.g.), and add the 2 together to see what is best value.
      Building a metro system in Leeds is just as expensive as in London.
      What good is a bridge between Britain and Ireland? Could we use that money for other infrastructure projects? You see where I'm coming from?

    • @CHEESYhairyGASH
      @CHEESYhairyGASH 4 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      As a Londoner I would have to say I agree with your frustration - the Midlands and the North require massive investment in infrastructure. I think the only way Parliament would even think about prioritising investment in Birmingham, for example, would be to have Parliament based in Birmingham. The only way to get sufficient MPs voting in favour of huge investment in infrastructure in an area outside of London is to have MPs actually have to deal with using infrastructure in that area. The ROI argument will always win, London will always be prioritised until MPs are personally inconvenienced by the inadequate transport links outside the capital.

    Chelsea already has an underground station - Sloane Square. It also has plenty of bus routes running along the King's Road. What's the point of sending all the southern Greater London Crossrail 2 traffic through a Kings Road station? There isn't the passenger demand. People traveling Victoria-Clapham Junction want to get as quickly as possible to Victoria and vice-versa. They are not interested in stop-offs at Chelsea. We already have the Circle and District lines from Victoria for that.

    So you want to use existing 2 track lines north of the core section (idk about the south if anyone wants to fill me in), on that existing line is multiple level crossings for vehicles and some foot crossings. As someone who has been to brimsdown station (one of cross rail 2’s proposed north stations), the level crossing is every 3-10 minutes anyway and 4 tracks is not possible as housing limitations. So if it’s max 15 tph on cross rail 2 (15 to new Southgate to make the 30 mentioned) then add that to the already large 15-20 tph Greater Anglia stuff (stopping and not) then it would be far to much for the line and something would need to be done. I'm sure this line will be a huge benefit to Londoners and good for them, but fairness is needed and such huge amounts needs to be spent in other areas too. However with the huge amounts the government are now having to spend during this virus pandemic, I have a feeling that once again it will be the North that loses out on funding for huge infrastructure projects like this as they'll be cancelled or scaled back while this line will probably go ahead.

    revise it to just go from Gatwick Airport, & Chessington South, using existing Rail corridors, before meeting up at Clapham Junction, From there, they can run through the existing planned route, before than continuing beyond Broxbourne to Hertford East and Stanstead Airport using the existing rail corridor.

    As a Northerner I feel that London, as much as I love it. has had enough investment for now . In my opinion Crossrail 2 should only be considered when HS 2 and HS3 (Manchester to Leeds) are completed in full. Not wishing to sound alarmist,the current Covid 19 crisis will change the way the public views UK Government spending . They said that there was no magic money tree., but there is . It is called quantitative easing. It is now a magic forest the size of the Amazon rainforest.
    But does that matter? What is money - only digits in a server in a bunker somewhere. Be good if we could have HS2 HS3 and Crossrail2. After all I am a railway enthusiast.

    All trains should be double decker.

    I really like the colour of the line. Mabye the colour that represents your train should be the colour of your train. Also, is Crossrail 2 going to use the class 345 as well?

      hmmm, you're quite right. The 345 would be a bit too old, but that doesn't mean it won't be used anymore.

      By my eyes, probably not, if it would be released in the 2030's then it is likely that there would be a new model
