Depending on where you live national and state parks sometimes have permits that let you cut already fallen or dead trees on the property you’ll haft to check with them you can go into the parks office and ask them I live in Kansas and the lake next to me lets me cut and already fallen or cut down tree and take it home and the permit is like 25 bucks if I remember right
Really nice job! I have seen these with two smaller logs perpendicular underneath to act as "feet." Helps preserve the log itself a little longer

Where is this where you can just go and cut fallen wood? I've heard it's illegal to remove wood from public land.
