    Ana, please treasure every day with Brian. I have a personal story. I am now a widow (for a very short time now). I’m watching your videos to feel somewhat ‘normal’ and to listen to your calming voice, as has been my routine since soon after you began your channel.
    I enjoyed this video and relate to how much energy that over-planning costs some of us. Finding the balance is good.
    I’m with you on the no meal planning…with some basic ingredients on hand and then adding something from the market as desired.
    I send you hugs…and thanks for another helpful video.

    I love this idea! Society has taught us to make a goal for the New Year and then work to acheive it, adding more pressure to an already stressful life. Stopping or eliminating the things that we know are not working can Reduce stress for the new year. It seems like a much more logical course of action!

    I can relate to the idea of not limiting yourself and yet wanting to create an environment where you can focus more deeply on only certain forms of artistic expression. I guess it all comes down to finding a workable balance. And maybe also being kind to yourself when the balance shifts for reasons beyond your control. Blessings in the new year! ❤

    I am so glad you brought up the specific example of meal planning. This is one of the advise I often find when looking for ways to save money, save time, eat healthier etc. Yet, when I do manage to plan meals and or cook for the whole week, I often end up not wanting it. Recognising that it is ok not to be that kind of person is a relief. It is not that it was important to me to be doing it, but it felt just another thing to add to what I am failing at. I stopped doing it because I knew i would end up either wasting it or being miserable from not eating something i did not want or needed on that day. So, on my list to say no to, is comparing myself to others. This is one of the many things I admit, I am still doing out of habit and unconsciously mostly. I still want to be inspired and learn and try new things, but recognise it is not a failure on my person if I do not like it or it does not work for me. Thank you so much to bring so much wisdom into our lives ❤

    Lol, I found myself many times in that position, where I planned meals, and then I do not feel like eating them the next day. Many times I had to throw away food too. I am intuative and like to follow my gut feeling. We have that in common. 🙂 A sentence comes to mind, by Brecht: "Ja mach doch einen Plan, und sei ein helles Licht, und mach dann noch `nen zweiten Plan, gehn tun sie beide nicht...." 🙂

    I was fascinated by your discussion of giving up the "potential" mind set. For me the potentiality of everything sometimes serves as release for anxiety about deciding where to focus my intention. I totally resonate with what you are saying, but I would have a hard time trying to do what you suggest. I think deciding where to focus my energy and attention is the hardest thing for me.

    • @anagoldberg
      @anagoldberg  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi Michele, I understand you so well! It's a pretty challenging intention for me too, and I think of it as an experiment to see whether I can feel a deeper connection with my core passions through such a focus. We'll see!

    • @michelecraig9658
      @michelecraig9658 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@anagoldberg yes. I resonated with it focusing my real intention has been a challenge I have only recently taken on. These last few weeks it has resulted in knitting three hats (on the fourth one now) for presents with all the scrap yarn I have collected. Hopefully this will keep me out of the shops pre Christmas which strangely makes me less anxious?

    There is an excellent news channel that you recommended to me last year - Meduza News English. I rely on it often to help me make sense of the war in Ukraine, and what Russia and the Kremlin are really about. For me, aging has gradually allowed me to give up unnecessary habits, activities, obsessions, you name it. The need to be always doing, planning, achieving, etc. seems to really slows down. Time passed more gently now. The three most important tasks for me now are health management (exercise, diet and sleep), donating regularly to important organizations and individuals, and trying to come to terms with, and managing the fear of, my eventual death. And that's it!

    Oh Ana, every time I watch your channel, I m actually shocked at how much I resonate with you. And often enough like now I feel that you articulate what I feel and you inspire me to be more and more authentic! It’s a wonderful feeling in this world where a great part of the time I feel likeI don’t belong. I also feel that you give me permission to be who I am and to evolve and change my mind as fitted. I too want to focus more on the 3 most important creative media to me and stop distracting myself from working deeply by following all these exciting interests. I think it’s good to get excited about a medium but then also see the shadow of that excitement and redirect our energy.Thats growth. It’s funny because I am leery of virtual “relationships” and yet you feel like a real friend to me. I could write and on about this post as usual ! You are a gem, this world is lucky to have you!

    This subject is something I need to examine myself. I set goals for the new year, yet I never examine what I don't want to continue or do in the new year. I feel that might be a way to clear mind space and be more mindful of what I do or don't do. Thank you, Ana, for bringing up the idea.❤❤

    Thank you so much for sharing this message ❤ I tend to overload myself with multipotention when it comes to craft supplies, and need to stop myself from ”trying new things” as I have much when it comes to crafting and need to just use what I have. And do what I love most.
    Planners and planning is not for me unless it’s ansolutely necessary, but not when to do this or that craft etc.
    It kills my spontanity.
    Only if there is a deadline.
    There are some NO’s for 2024.
    Haven’t decided about them yet, except from not buying new things out of impulsivity.
    For me it’s easier to listen or/and watch than read due to my cognitive issues.

    Hi!
    Im 25 and I'm an English teacher from Nepal (where there is Mt. Everest). I lost my mom at 1 and still I'm stuck there which I'm slowly realizing. I feel that I've been drunk on her absence my whole life causing me to be insecure, too sensitive, sad and negative and what not! I even feel that all the family issues I've would be less if she was here. But this year, Im going to get a sustainable career and I'm going to start living. I hope to miss her too but without feeling hurt or sad. Thank you! 🧡

    Wow, my breathing stopped when you said you want to reign in being a multipotentialite. What a courageous step! It sounds though like you still have enough variety in your projects though, so that your multipotential nature doesn't feel stifled. Maybe that would be a good inspiration for me as well. I have more projects in the air than I can realistically juggle. My initial question often is: If I do this, is it likely that I'll receive a good measure of joy and/or wear out of this activity? Of course, sometimes the joy comes completely unexpected. For example, when I picked up my old recorder for traveling last summer which I hadn't played in decades, but it was the only instrument that was small enough to take with me. I was blown away by how much I loved playing on it and still do.
    I love your sweater, the neckline is especially interesting. May I ask how you knit the neckline? Vintage knitting is one of my other projects for the coming year.

      @anagoldberg  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      You're so right, Christiane! It's often hard to predict where we'll find the most joyful moments. The most important thing is to listen to yourself. Oh, and as for the sweater, it's actually a cardigan that I wear on backwards for a fun change 😊

    I have found it is important to curate the channels I watch on TH-cam as that is my main form of digital entertainment some channels will create negative feelings that I want to avoid. Others get to become boring. I really like your suggestion of focusing on just a few creative outlets I tend to focus on too many types of creative projects and get overwhelmed with ideas so it gets hard to follow through

Meal prep/planning just doesn't make sense because if I'm not in the mood, I'm not gonna eat it. x) I also try to not over plan my week down to the day or the hour because maybe I will feel more like completing a task on Tuesday rather than Wednesday.

    I say enjoy not meal planning while you live in a place that permits quick trips to market or grocery to buy what is fresh or inspiring. It's one thing I miss about Europe. At least in summer we have the farmer's market once a week. But in suburban America it is often a hassle to go to the grocer more than once per week.
    Right now I am planning a big "bucket list" trip for next year. And while I realize what a privilege it is to do so, I am also acknowledging the amount of stress this is placing on me. So my "no" for 2024 will be to additional activity over and above what is already planned.
    As a multipotentialite, you remind me of my sister.
    I also agree on trimming TH-cam viewing. My other favorite TH-camr just moved to a house and already I'm grieving the loss of her quaint apartment, lol.
    Wishing you and Brian good health and happiness.

  • @willowbei
    @willowbei 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

    What a deep and rich sharing today, Ana. Thank you. My partner and I have gotten away from meal planning, for the most part. We do make a list of what is available to fix for meals but the decisions of what we actually decide to eat can be very flexible and spontaneous. We find it a much more relaxed and food friendly way to eat. As far as "to do" lists, I will often make a list of things for the week and/or day, but it is little more than what could be possible. There are times when everything on the list gets done and other times when the ebb and flow of life takes me in a different direction. I enjoy the feeling that I can move in ways that are "calling me", in the current moment, instead of being obsessed with any lists.
    Judgments are another area of my life, where continuous vigilance is necessary. The Thich Nhat Hanh quote regarding labels and (what I often call expectations), is very apt here. Being in the moment and learning how to be with people in any given moment is a journey of constantly reminding myself to be more present with others.
    The whole multi-potentiality issue is a great one to work on. For years I dreamed about Bonsai, but never allowed myself to take the time to get fully into having a Bonsai collection. Five years, or so, ago I took some classes and started a Bonsai collection. Last year, after two of my plants died, and I was getting interested in other activities, I decided to let go of the work and effort that I was putting into these beautiful plants - it just was not a priority any more. I am glad that I had the experience of working with Bonsai (as limited as it was), because I no longer fantasize about what it would be like. I can move on the other interest that I now find more fulfilling. If and when any of those areas are no longer viable for me, I have the experience of letting go of Bonsai, as a realization that I can let things go.
    All the best to you and Brian. Peace to all.

    Ok. No. No to information overload. But Yes to empathy and a clear mindset. No, strictly No to lies, delusion, hate. Yes to more knowledge, more understanding and more kindness. Yes, a big Yes to a better care for the enviroment, the climate and peace and friendlyness between humans and nations. No killing. No wars. And Yes for the chances and possibilities to take side for this. That is for 2024. It is a lot.

    Hi Ana you saying about information overload has really struck a chord with me I had a major overload of toxicity information and verbal abuse on Monday from my son who’s in his 30s I’ve decided enough is enough and I’m not going to accept this overload anymore as it’s actually been the story of my life as my mother was controlling my husband was mental abusing me and 2 of my own children has verbally abused me for a number of years so called friends have used me I made the decision on Monday that I’m not accepting it anymore as it’s been affecting my health for years how do I avoid this behaviour do you have any advice for me please,I’ve been living minimal for one year now and I’ve achieved a lot by decluttering etc although I’ve a long way to go but I’m hopeful I will get there anyways the other thing it has helped me with is peace and a much more positive meaningful life and I want to put a stop to people being toxic to me thank you so much for your video happy Christmas and best wishes for 2024 - I want new changes for the better in 24

    Please do share your favorite channels, podcasts and audiobooks! I suspect I might like them too! And don’t be afraid to include those that are in Russian ;) some of us here can also understand this language!

    I know longer look at Medium because it is inundated with advertising and pop ups 😡 so disappointing. I too have cut way back on information, mostly in the form of news. I no longer listen to news podcasts or watch news on youtube. Here in the US the business model of the media encourages BAD news and sensationalism. I found this to not be good for my mental health. I now will look at headlines but seldomly go beyond that. It's hard to tune out the modern world though!
