    Hi Ola. I own the V2 version of this baby. And I absolutely love it, because I don't use it as a stand-alone solution in connection with a power amp and a speaker cabinet like in this video. I rather use it to give my frontend a little more boost or push. So I get a whole set of extra tone colours, but I don't need to dial in much gain. Teamed with an already overdriven amp input stage this helps keep the noise leve low. AND MAN, THIS CHUGS! I feel that this is where the V Twin pedal really shines, because it is just a preamp with 3 sound options (1x clean, 2x drive), but not 3 full-featured channels, although the pedal offers a bunch of features for a wide range of applications. Too bad they don't make it any more. Like many amp makers, the company has made a very big mistake by discontinuing the golden oldies and launching new amps which can't hold a candle to the classice of the past century. Cheers!

    I ran one of these back in the early 90’s, pushed it with an Ibanez tube screamer, and a crown power amp into a 1960B cab loved it!

    My favorite part about Ola is he delivers his jokes as if he has a live Audience in front of him but then treats some of his jokes as if he just bombed the delivery, lingers on it for a half second then moves on.

    • @unherolike
      @unherolike 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      From what Ola has said their bodies are as thick as they need to be to fit the Evertune bridges into. And infact that's why the backplate is surface mounted and not flush to the body the Evertune bridges almost stick out the back of the Guitar.

    4:48 Yes I agree... Glenn Fricker claims tubes make no difference. I cbf proving it myself... but I definitely notice differences in tone between some tubes.... some slight... some very noticeably different. Will Ola take the challenge and prove that tube swaps make a difference in tone? C'monnnnnnnnnnn.

    • @nicholastotoro7721
      @nicholastotoro7721 3 ปีที่แล้ว +9

      All of Glenn’s stuff sounds the same. All fairness to him, the tubes don’t make a huge difference when you use the crap ton of gain he has on his artists’ recordings.
      Pete Thorn’s video is a better example. The less complex the circuit, the more you’ll hear the difference. Not so much with a full band, but if you can hear and feel it and it helps you play better, go for it!

    • @AnyDrug
      @AnyDrug 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Glenn doesn't simply claim, tubes makes no difference. He shows, the different tubes he used in that specific setup make only marginal differences. ;)

      I've done a fair bit of tube rolling. They do make a difference, but it's subtle most of the time. Other times it was kind of drastic. Old 50's RCA Blackplates are my favorite, but the new Tung-Sols sound great too.. Probably my favorite newer tube.

    Power tubes brand do not change the tone, it only changes the level.
    Anyone can check out Glen's video from SMG studios about that subject.
    Tung sol are known to have a higher gain (electric level) but in no way it changes the signal itself from an other same model of tube

    • @BabyThomas
      @BabyThomas 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      There's nothing scientific in Glenn's test. He's not using a cab and this "eats" at least half of the tone. Bear in mind recording and listening on TH-cam masks the results too. You actually CAN use cabs+mics and change the tubes without changing their placement. Just use a head and a cab (not cheap combo) and 1-2m speaker cable. And yes, use expensive guitar and amp and cab, not some cheap chinese overcompressed 5150 or similar. And last - you have to change all the tubes, if you have even one muffled sounding tube it will mask the difference between the others. It's common knowledge if you know anything about amps, tubes, their plate resistance and low pas filter it creates. Oh, I forgot - Glenn doesn't know anything about amps. And he can't play, so... it's expected.
      P.S. Shouting in front of people and calling you "test" scientific doesn't mean anything.

      @@TheAxe4Ever Was gonna mention this once Mesa hands full control to Gibson, Mesa amps will have two product lines Chineseium Amps that sound worse and will tarnish the Mesa name and the custom shop AMPs made in the USA will be 4x's as expensive as a Mesa already was.

      Well, there's still a full line of parts. As far as why they're not made anymore. From my research, I mostly found that it was simply a matter of manufacturing costs. The thing's a beast!

    I'm not into chugging. I don't like chugging, I don't want to chug, and I'm not set up for chugging what with my blues jr, fender guitars and cheap hollowbodies. But I watch this series, and I don't get mad.

    I didn't like the sound of it, even with a Fortin mod. It sounded pretty fluffy (weird midrange and too many harmonics on the treble) through the mics, kinda like playing a distorted amp without a cab/IR hooked to it.

      I thought it was a little too metallic sounding and it was missing some much needed clarity. Might sound a little better in a mix, but only slightly.

      Imagine what it sounded like before being modded. I love everything about Boogie, from their gear to their awesome small business backstory, i really wanted to like this. Would still love to check it out for a few minutes though. It might sound better through a different signal path.

      @@rickfeith6372 Yea, I forgot to mention I didn't like it through Ola's signal path specifically. In the front of an amp or in the loop of a tube power amp it may have sounded quite different and, possibly, better.

    Hej! You should do a spoof where you walk the streets of Stockholm or Gothenburg with a guitar and pocket amp and randomly approach people in “will it chug”. Of course by the end of the episode you should find at least a couple people who chug. PS - if you ever find a 15 y/o 10-speed locked to a lamppost in Vaxjo, that’s mine, and I want you to have it.
