I stopped by your channel because I just dug out my V-Twin pedal that I've had tucked away for many years and was hoping to hear your thoughts on the pedal and its functions. It was a pleasure to hear your comments and some of the most tasteful guitar work I've heard on TH-cam. Your personality and playing was very refreshing.

Finally a video of someone actually PLAYING the gear being reviewed, instead of doing the boring crap reviews with the same old lame "guitar store' licks where they all sound the same. You know the kind, bend and vibrato, noodles through a scale, half bend/vibrato/full bend/hold and let fade out.

You don't know this but you are the one who caused me to take a second look at the Helix. Haha You get such good tones out of it.
I'm not going to grab one, but only because I already have a tube amp and pedals..and the Helix is pricey... I'm a man of of modest means.
I did like the Mesa V-Twin... I remember those in music stores, but couldnt tell you when they were around exactly. I'm guessing there's at least one 12AX7 in it. So yeah, you could get some noise I guess.

I certainly will! When I purchased it years ago I had a horrible solid state amp that I thought I could just plug this into and get a Dual Rectifier tone out of... Well now many years later, I want to use it direct and with less gain. Having said that, I am curious how it will sound through my Classic 30 and Marshall Vintage Modern.

Great sound , great playing , thank you for this great vid. The diff between the version 1 and this model is the version 1 does not have the adjustment underneath it, also the version 1 knobs are round without the pointers, also before these they released a black unit called the bottle rocket , from what I have read over the years this version 2 is the best one of them all, I love boogie I have 2 of these ... thanks again for this great vid...

Lovely review and playing. The switching on the rear reproduces the foot switches on the unit. External Bypass bypasses the unit (not a tuner output), I'm not sure if it's true bypass but on my unit it sounds like plugging directly into the amp. External Select switches between the two channels. I really value my unit which is in perfect condition and can't quite bring myself to put it on the floor so I use an old two switch footswitch on the floor instead, this has the added advantage of bringing the controls into convenient reach. I'm mainly a bass player and this is also a brilliant bass preamp. I use bypass mode for my Frenzel amp in clean mode, one of the two distortion channels for distorted guitar and the clean channel for bass. I also use a reverb pedal after the unit, it sounds amazing. Your distorted sound is sublime, no doubt substantially due to your wonderful technique however it would be very enlightening to know the settings you use on the unit. Perhaps you could add these if you are able to. Thanks for a great review.

Very adequate review, I remember in the 1990s I borrowed the V-twin on stage and in the studio, and it was like the McGyver trick for a great guitar sound, no matter what sordid conditions, be it a 1973 peavey Classic VT, Fender twin or Marshall JCM800, as a booster, overdrive or distortion up front straight into a power amp section or mixing desk (!) the V-twin always saved the day!

Cool one Jon! Yes I saw one used unit when I was in Japan. Very reasonably priced (around 10,000 yen) but I was torn between getting it or the slightly lower priced used unit of H&K Tubeman MK2. Dude, that is some tasty playing and killer tone! When I was looking for a pedal like this, it was either the V-Twin or the H&K Tube Factor. I went with the Tube Factor, and am very happy with that decision. However, after hearing your demo, I'm thinking I need (ok, want) one of these too. Must....resist....

good video!!! I have it myself and love the sound, can't be without it for too long =)
about the "external" jacks....they're meant to be controlled by another unit that sends relay status, for the rack systems used back in the day - or the modern pedalboard loopers. the bypass turns the unit on and off (like the left footwitch) and the channel select changes the channels (like the right footswitch). works great with looper units where you can save patches with either channel or even with the unit turned off (no real reason for that as the looper bypasses it, right?).

Good review. However there are 2 major problems with this video:
1- Talking about irrelevant stuff (for most people who watch this for the review/demo) for over 5 minutes, almost half of the video.
~> I'd suggest to move this talk to the end of the video for additional info so people don't get annoyed and stop listening before hearing your review.
2- It's FAR from an "IN DEPTH" review... You do showcase the good lead tones you get out of it with 2 guitars, but you don't explain what settings and modes are used.
Furthermore, an in-depth review would have included a demonstration of the different modes, what the different controls do/how they affect the sound for each mode and your personal thoughts, observations and insights into the versatility, sound quality, how to get good tones (settings), the limitations of the unit, etc.
Also, a crucial part would have been to show your Amp's tone with the V-Twin Bypassed to give us a point of reference.
And finally, to make your review complete, it would have been very important to show some rythm playing on each mode while changing the settings of each Control one by one to show the whole range of each Control. That's easy to do with a looper playing your riff/chords while you dial each knob.
I'll still give this video a like (and I RARELY bother leaving (dis)likes) as you are a pretty cool dude and you still gave us a taste of both cool lead tones and your fluid, ludic, skillful and very enjoyable playing!

Hi Christian! Thank you for your comments! You are composing my video to most review TH-cam videos out here. Please know that I’m not like the other reviewers.

@@JonIsJustTooLoud Hey! Thanks for the reply! I complimented you on your good playing and from what I heard, I strongly suspected that you were a working musician.
I understand what you mean by saying that I was "comparing" (I think that's the word you meant to use) your video to other people's review videos.
With your answer, I can now appreciate your video for what you intended it to be. However, I still think that the title is a bit misleading, as an "in-depth" review just means that: Going through the all the equipment's characteristics and tonal possibilities (that's the demo part of the review) while giving your thoughts on the build and sound quality, versatility, it's pros and cons, and giving your assessment of what uses or in which contexts you find that the equipment is useful.
I really want to emphasize that I am in NO WAY criticizing you. I'm just trying to give some constructive feedback.
All in all, I think that if you titled your video as a "Demo" or "Lead tones demo", then it would have been perfect and none of what I said would apply.
As a working guitarist/musician too, I really understand that we VERY RARELY have the time (if ever) to spend on making a 12-20 minutes video just to fully demonstrate and review ONE piece of gear among all the gear we possess!
As I said, I didn't leave a dislike because I really appreciated your video and your playing, and even if you didn't do an extensive demo of the V-Twin, what I heard was really useful.
Keep rocking on brother and take care too!
