  • Fixing ABS Issues in E39 BMW: A Step-by-Step Guide
    Are you experiencing issues with the ABS in your E39 BMW? The ABS warning light is flashing, and you're not sure what's causing the problem? If so, you're in the right place. In this article, we'll show you how to diagnose the issues associated with ABS and how to fix them.
    The ABS warning light should come on and flash when you turn the ignition on, and then it should turn off. However, if the light doesn't come on every time, that's a sign of a particular issue. You may also notice that your traction light is on, which means it's switched off.
    To diagnose the problem, you need to know which ABS module you have. There are two types of ABS modules in the E39. The first one is located inside the car, which is the better one. The second one is located in the engine bay, and it causes more problems because of the heat from the exhaust manifold.
    The first thing you should do is check which module you have. If you have the later E39, your ABS module will be located in the engine bay. If you have the earlier one, it's located behind the glove box.
    To access the ABS module, you don't have to take the glove box off. There's a beige tray that slides out underneath the glove box, and the ABS module is located roughly around there. Once you have access to the module, you can test your ABS sensors and other issues without having to take every single wheel off.
    The tests you can run include resistance voltage, diode test, and earth test. You can also test the ABS sensors from the ABS module. These tests will help you diagnose the issues with your ABS and fix them.
    In conclusion, fixing ABS issues in your E39 BMW can be challenging, but with our step-by-step guide, you can diagnose the issues and fix them yourself. Don't worry if your ABS system is not identical to the one in the video. You can still run the tests from the ABS module and fix the issues. If you follow the instructions carefully, you can save a lot of money on mechanic bills. Don't forget to subscribe to our channel for more helpful videos.

    Guys what is the ASC means? is it the same as the ABS?

    Mine looks similar but not exactly the same. There's a unit in the same spot, but not identical and one of the connectors on the back is different, therefore I'm not sure if it's the later version or not. It's a 2001 530i. My ABS light has been coming on lately, and just today actually activated and braked a couple times, which freaked me out.

    I worked at BMW sometimes it's as easy as changing a fuse and the cheapest option :)

    Steering wheel sensor will throw DSC out of function and costs a bit to replace, located around steering column and works with understeer etc so could be your problem as all parts related to traction, Abs ETC

    Yes you need to invest some INPA diagnostic software or similar, very cheap, you have some issues there and an error/fault code reading is your solution there...thats where to start...good luck!...once you have codes post on a forum like bimmerforums and you should get it resolved and handled.

    Yoooo! Where is the second video? Lol
    My car has a no communication error between the abs and the SAS and DME. Can connect to all of the modules individually, but they can't communicate with each other

      have you checked the wheel speed sensors in regards to the speedometer??

  • @UKCarReviews
    @UKCarReviews  11 ปีที่แล้ว

    'bulletsilver75'.....Well you will need to get a diagnostic scan for sure 100%, as you have clearly got something soaking and its failed and hence your car is in limp mode, there is no other way other than to have it scanned as a sensor or similar is buggered.

    there is a company on ebay that rebuilds the module for $95 (vs $1,100 at shop for new, install, and coding), no recoding required either. Anybody have experience with that?
