The Kids & The City Guys... many years ago, we kids didn't have $ to buy bait. Our Dad taught us to make 'dough balls'. All of us, siblings, fished 🐟 from the lake shore (northern MI). We were catching Northern Pike. A few minutes later, several 'city guys' showed up with a fancy boat & equipment. They were talking about the "right type..." of bait, they were using. They went quite away from the shore. When they got back to shore, we heard them complaining about catching nothing. They offered us kids $$ to buy our fish. We did not sell our fish. We were grateful for our simple dough balls. Our Dad passed long ago. THANK YOU for this video. It was a reminder I needed at this time 10/24/24
I am very happy to hear such a great story! I didn’t have a lot growing up either and fished with old but still very useable gear. I use to go out in the rain and gather worms for trout and crappie fishing with my brother. It’s really amazing the little things like that make great memories. Your story just made my day! Hope you catch a monster Northern Pike the next time you go out!
Hello there.... I'm a keen fisherman in England, always interested in trying out different baits etc... I'm interested to know what the texture/firmness of this bait is after boiling ???
The best description is similar to bread dough or piazza dough. You don’t won’t it to stick to your hands when you roll it, if that helps. You can add more water if it clumps up or corn meal or flour if it’s too watery. This bait is better suited for catfish but can work with smaller species. The molasses leaves a scent trail that attracts fish. You can alter the recipe to suit it for your own needs. Hope you catch some monsters!
I’m eating those words now! I’m recovering from surgery and can’t fish😡! Hope the bait recipe helps. Sometimes the best things are home made. I like sticking it to bait makers like gulp. Instead of buying all their merchandise it’s time fisherman strike back and find out the fish have been around a lot longer than gulp!
Yes forsure. Im going back to the ways my grandpas did it. Hoping for a quick recovery for you! I will go catch some with this recipe for ya until you get better!

Do you think it would be a good idea to use the water from a tuna can that you drain out
Sardine oil works really good mixed in with dough bait😊😊😊
How much of the cornmeal and flour did you use
Thanks dude!

The garlic, sugar, and molasses aren't required, they are just scent agents.
