If I could describe Zach in one word, it would be thoughtless. That is how he conducted himself all season with the women. He slept with Gabi and then ruined their moment by telling her he was going to tell Kaity, ignoring everything she said the previous night about her past relationships. Also by telling Kaity, he ignored her past with unfaithfulness in her relationships. He shamed Greer for her career comments. He shamed Jess for crying and being confused about where they stood. And as Ariel already pointed out, he undermined her autonomy with the stupid no sex rule and by keeping her in the dark about sleeping with Gabi. And then to top it all off, he started treating Gabi like a stranger and kept her and said words of affirmation to her and still kept her. If he is telling the truth when he said he knew a while back it was Kaity, it makes his actions with Gabi and sleeping with her feel all the more thoughtless. His thoughtlessness is going to get him into more trouble down the line or however long he stays with Kaity. The guy just doesn’t think things through and how it will affect other people. I hope he grows and learns from this.
10000% especially I think Zach was too focused on how viewers will perceive him as a 'good' and 'smart' bachelor, when in reality he never accounted for the feelings of the actual women, never spent genuine time to build a relationship, leaving women entirely heartbroken and confused for leading them on. What a dumpster of a person, feel so bad for these women and lowkey never want to support the Bachelor franchise again.
Telling someone you don't want to have sex is not undermining their autonomy. That is laughable, have you ever heard of CONSENT? If either party removes consent from sex at any point for any reason, then you do not have the AUTONOMY to change that opinion. That would be called rape. Ariel's statement on the "no sex" rule was a joke. If I am dating a girl and she tells me she doesn't want to have sex, I don't get to cry and say she took away my autonomy(you have to autonomy to masturbate, not the right to some elses body). That is insane.
@@randomnobody9229 while you are right about normal dating -- this is the bachelor and it's been pretty clear for multiple seasons that sex is on the table for the fantasy suites as the default (at least until one or both parties decide it isn't). Zach was within his rights to say he didn't want sex but it came off as more dictatorial than something he had decided. (producers manipulations).
I think he let her on. The fact that he made such a big deal about it being no sex week, and then had sex with her, and then told her to be a secret just between them, definitely as final pick behavior. I think he knew that was his only chance to sleep with her, so he took it, and then regretted it the next day, because he knew it would hurt the one he was planning on proposing to, and wanted to absolve himself of his sins by confessing. He should’ve let Gabbi go long before he did.
Honestly I wish Zach would have told Kaity in private about sleeping with Gabi. It would have saved everyone a whole lot of hurt and headache. Never forget… the producers aren’t your friends. I feel they probably got it out of him and then he felt obligated to spill the beans on camera.
Regarding when he "knew," Zach said they aired the final dates in reverse. Gabi was first and then Kaity. So he knew the night before, right after his date with Kaity. It does line up. The editing made it look like he was contradicting himself.
When Gabi asks Zack if he regrets sleeping with her, his reaction reminds me of Mark Whalberg’s “What? No.” meme from The Happening. So bad and so unconvincing. Yikes.

Me too. He reminds me of specific narcissistic people I've known in my life. I found watching him very triggering and have mostly kept up with this season through recaps like the awesome Bach fantake and others. I can't watch the scenes of him gaslighting women without feeling it in my nervous system. People like him are dangerous.
I found it very interesting that Jesse opened with condolences for Nashville, but said NOTHING about the tornado that tore through Mississippi the previous weekend, killing 23 and devastating so many families. Because you know, "gun control" is more important than actually helping people who are in real need. Same goes for you, Mr. Fantake.
1. I don't believe that Ariel needed to be told that Zach slept with Abi. 2. I honestly believe that everyone gets really horny with all of the kissing and physical touch which leads the Bachelors and some Bachelorettes to have sex with people they don't intend to choose at the end. Think about Hannah B., Pete, and the windmill! 3. Producers intentionally put either the people who abstain from sex or are the most likely to be the final pick last during Fantasy Suite week in order to maximize conflict and trauma.
I get the structure sucks, but like is there never supposed to be another engagement breakup scene again?? Like someone has to get dumped at the alter with their structure.
Zach didn’t understand that the reason why it worked for Sean is because of his strong Christian conviction. He was just focused on being a bachelor like Sean and that is not a strong enough conviction.
I was hesitant this year watching the Bachelor but did anyway and now wonder why? Didn’t care for Zach at all and he didn’t disappoint. What a screw up. Both Ariel and Gabi were class acts. Nothing wrong with Katie but she seemed like the easy choice. I wish them well but I think the past relationships will once again repeat. I hope not. Let’s move on to next season.
I don’t like Zach. Ariel’s conversation was truly perfect! Zach was so focused on finding his wife but he is going to be someone’s husband. He couldn’t even articulate why he would be a good partner.
Why does this show believe by throwing sean lowe or jared/ashley and other bachelor success stories (few and far between) in our faces we will forget how actual shi this show is. Every season by the end I'm so irritated. At least this season had me until "sex week".
So glad to have the recaps, because the full show would be so hard to watch! Zach seemed so dense emotionally the entire time and all that nonsense at the end was scripted, it really isn't fair to the Bachelor or his pick. The fake out was the worst, not funny or cute. I don't know, I just wish they'd change it up a little now and then. And I'm not talking about the host
I’m just gonna be the voice of reason here to say: Zach is not a bad person and everyone can see that. He tried to do the right thing, and be honest - but he was off base and was too in his head and too overwhelmed to make what seem clear when you’re watching - to be the right choices. But that doesn’t give people the liberty to be so judgmental. Every woman who signs up for this show knows how this process works. People get dumped. People make mistakes. This is just life and I feel sad that this franchise seems to be a big way for people to judge. Please - those who have always been perfect and done the right thing in every single moment of every single relationship - please be the first to throw the stone. Remember when Gabi herself said’ maybe we’ll have sex maybe we won’t’ - you don’t know what happened in that night, and Gabi was already quick to open the question if her sex life to the public. She also knew that when zach came to talk to her about actually wanting to tell Kaity what happened - it was on camera - therefore automatically telling everyone. Feigning ignorance around that was confusing to me. With that - heartbreak sucks. I feel for her. She deserves love just like everyone else . So let’s try to give everyone some grace here.

I like Kaity + Zach, but I personally found it hard to feel joy for them straight after witnessing that brutal breakup with Gabi. Also the fact that a woman on the show felt humiliated and violated in regards to the revelation of her sex life by a man she trusted left a really bad taste in my mouth. The Bachelor shows have a bit of a poor record in regards to how women's sexuality is portrayed and received by the audience. I hope Gabi is uplifted by her supporters and finds some peace.
It takes 2 to tango, if he said he didn't want to do sex, then don't put yourself in the situation, she wanted to as much as him, that's man's nature, she needs to build her self esteem and confidence in herself. Take it as a learning experience in life.
The fact that he didn’t tell Ariel but only told Kaity about having slept with Gabi makes me believe that he knew who was going to pick well before the night before. I think he’s just trying too hard to not hurt feelings that he ended up making a bigger mess than if he had just taken his lumps. Ariel is a queen! She handle all of this so elegantly ,and politely put Zach in his place my heart is shattering for Gabi. Zach did Gabi so dirty. He literally hit it ,and quit it, and for what?!? He knew what he wanted, and strung her along .
So a few things: 1. This entire finale could have been an email. 2. I feel horrible for what Gabby went through and wouldn’t blame her if she wanted nothing to do with the franchise moving forward. Regardless of the “traditional season” marketing this honestly soured an otherwise happy entire ending for me. 3. Ariel said on a podcast that she knows what happened between Rachel and Zach but can’t spill…
This show has always been extremely problematic. In Sean’s season Lindsay thought she was getting proposed and was rejected but people talk about his season like it’s some fairytale ending. People seem to want the lead to somehow string people along, something the show is based on, yet do it in a way were someone isn’t hurt. It’s just weird all around.
Seemed like Zach made up his mind by the end of the fantasy suites for who he was going to end up with. As a man, him not making contact with Gabby at the rose ceremony is most likely due to just feeling ashamed and embarrassed, especially when it is in front of the one he wanted all along (Kaity). Sucks that while he was advertised as a great guy, he seems like he cannot navigate or invest in dealing with very tough emotions or situations.
I didn’t really understand it. Why should Ariel know? It happened after her fantasy suite date. If it happened before her fantasy suite sure. And it “took away her agency”? If someone says no sex your agency is either to agree or walk away, so what the hell did she even mean?
Her interview on viall files was excellent as well, she called out Zach’s issues but gave him credit for all the good stuff too. I’m more than impressed with her.
jesse should not have cut her off and let her continue till she said all she wanted. i feel very bad for gabi about what she went through on this show and i hope shes doing better now. shes so funny and seems like a great person so i hope she finds someone that will always put her first and cherish her because she deserves to feel wanted
First of all, all hail Queen Gabi. She dealt with everything like a complete boss. Zach did her so dirty at every opportunity (though I don’t believe he did so maliciously) and I’m honestly surprised she even showed up. This season started off so well with Zach actually looking like a mature and wholesome bachelor, and then still ended like a dumpster fire.
It's so funny that Zach prided himself on being honest and when it mattered the most, he was very dishonest. He was dishonest with Ariel, by keeping her in the dark, he was dishonest with Gabi when he said to her in private "this is between us" and then goes and tell it to Jesse and everyone watching, and he told Gabi he wanted to come clean but only talked with Katy. He was dishonest with Gabi when he said that he made his choice the night before, but then told on camera that the day of his last date with Katy he knew. I hope they last, for Katy's sake, but if they break up, I hope it is Katy who calls it quit, because if he is the one who does it, he just will be another man that abandons her... and the franchise doesn't have a good track record. But we'll see.
Moral of the finale for me: both Ariel and Gabi are absolute QUEENS and did not deserve to be treated the way they were treated. These incredible women deserve the world!

I strongly believe that she knew that it was not her immediately after the previous rose ceremony. She tried so hard to believe him yet ended up so heartbroken. Zach’s words and actions never matched. Every time he “affirmed” their relationship he unconsciously shook his head, blinked, then frowned. “It’s love” while shaking his head vigorously… His body language when he was with Gabi just makes it so uneasy to watch. Gabi deserves someone with actual emotional intelligence, not one who is faking it.

I've known from the very beginning of the season that Zach will be wack. As much as he was trying to 'stay away from all the drama', he actually made women feel insecure and not wanted. I feel soooo bad for Gabby, she absolutely did not deserve the brutality of waiting for WEEKS to then get dumped the last day. As much as Zach wanted to stick with his 'no drama' and 'super in-touch with what women want' narrative, it actually was just a way to show to the viewers how he wanted his personality to look like on TV. In reality, he ended up being exactly like all other dumpster bachelor's that we've had in the past. Not sure if Katie and Zach will stay together, they might. But all could have been avoided if Zach was just honest and transparent to all women, instead of worrying about how everyone will perceive his personality on TV.

Exactly. After being on the previous season, Zach knows how produced exploit situations. Zach not only could have told Kaity during the night portion, he could have refrained from telling Jesse... Jesse, didn’t need to know. And even though that would mean he broke his promise to Gabi by still telling Kaity, AT LEAST none of it would have been aired on television!

Yes, the syrup thing is real. As soon as he said that it made me think they were not meant to be. First it doesn't take a genius to tell that the fake syrup was a world apart from the other three. But besides that she's from Vermont and super tight with her family. She'll need to live close by and I can't imagine SoCal/Texas Zach moving to Vermont. (Coming from a person who has lived here for the last 40 years)

They brought up a few times that the sexual relations between Z & G was consensual, and sure, they both consented. However she did not consent to it being broadcast. He said that it was just between them, but how long after he left the fantasy suite did he go running to Jesse? Did he even shower first?
It was weighing on his conscience. He felt he had to be honest with Kaity and his actions might have blown it. Also, Gaby wasn’t shy at all about letting the audience know that she was going to try and change his mind. If she was really concerned about her innocence she wouldn’t have done that.

Zach hates confrontations and women who confronts him. Also when he is done with a woman he is done. Why? Cause he isn't really a nice guy. He is kinda mean and cruel as he is selfish completely inside his head thinking of himself.
When the producers wanted a bachelor who is drama free but Zach is actually the drama. I feel so bad for Gabi. She truly deserves someone better than Zach who was truly never honest with her.

Seeing Gabi in the ATFR broke my heart. It seems like she has really been traumatized by this entire situation and I hope she stays away from the bachelor franchise, is able to heal, and finds real true unconditional love. She deserves it. It’s difficult to feel happy for Zach and Kaity after seeing how arrogant and thoughtless he has behaved towards multiple women on the show.
For those who argue Gabi should've known what she signed up for so her feelings aren't totally valid, Zach hurt her in a way we could never have envisioned. My whole heart goes out to her. I wish her happiness and healing! ❤
I personally don't think Gabi should've come on this show if she had those insecurities, but Zach shouldn't have slept with her if there was a possibility he'd send her home. Mind you I'd say the same for Hannah Brown with Peter Weber and we all know how that turned out.
@@speedude0164 You may say that, but I see Gabi's presence this season as a real gift. What happened to her was a really eye-opening callback to the savage nature of the show. The way the show's been built for Zach to strive to be an optimal Bachelor gave him the volition to hurt her in a brutal way that production exploited to a T. I give her grace because in spite of her insecurities, she eagerly took the chance to pursue him because she and her family saw they had so much in common. I commend that. Throughout the process, she let down her walls with him and they bonded so well. And despite her insecurities at moments clouding her better judgment, she persevered because she loved him. Everything she did took courage. And tremendous love. She overcame a lot with him and for him. But in the aftermath of production/Zach's mistreatment, it's heartbreaking to see all we saw happen to a wonderful person.

In fact it's plastered in the very concept of the show; one that glorifies leading people on and cheating, and our dumb asses still choose to watch it. Since Gabi's insecurity was about being the 2nd choice, there likely wouldn't have been any way to spare her of a lot of this pain even if Zach did everything right. That said I wish Gabi the best and I hope she never appears on any of these shows again. She's a great person and I hope at the very least the support she's getting from the fanbase will help her gain more self-respect.

@@speedude0164 I appreciate your point, but I disagree that Gabi would have been just as upset if she had been rejected by say, someone with a Sean Lowe level of respect and discretion throughout the season. The reason I suspect this is that Gabi is far from the only woman on this season who was in a lot of psychological distress because of Zach's behaviour. I think he's the main variable in why Gabi wasn't just heartbroken, but traumatized.

This show and its producers continue to strike me out (in a bad way) time and time again. What happened with Gabi was horrible and to me seems like a plot from producers Zach couldn’t get out of. He easily could’ve let her go when he knew at the end of Kaity’s last chance. But the producers likely wanted the “traditional” ending to go with their “traditional” Bachelor. But c’mon ABC, stop putting people through the wringer!! It might be a last straw for me supporting the actual show itself… BUT if that’s the route I take, Fantake I will still continue to watch YOU for the best takes, memes, and Bachelor content ever.
Gabbis interview with Zach on after the final rose really worried me, for her. She knew she got screwed not only Zack but the show too. She’s an example of this stuff really affecting peoples lives…and her mentioned mental health over and over combined with her mannerisms just made me worry. I hope she will be okay & knows she can do SO much better ❤
I feel the same. I’ve watched the past 3 or 4 seasons, and Rachel and Gabbie were hard enough, but this round with Gabi was next level. I truly feel sick knowing they picked her as some sort of sacrificial lamb to be drug through the mud for drama. She’s a real person and reminds me a lot of myself as far as insecurities. Going through something like that.. I would not be okay. There is nothing okay about facilitating psychological abuse, especially on someone who is clearly sensitive and dealing with prior trauma. I hope Gabi gets a lot of help dealing with this and meets someone who gets what a beautiful person she is.

Yeah it’s depressing to me that even absolutely gorgeous, charismatic, talented and intelligent women still feel ugly and unlovable. I get that feeling completely, but I didn’t realize it was so incredibly universal
Well about the producers pressuring you know what this bachelor fantake video made me think of? Rachel’s season where she knew she was going to end up with what’s his face, the doctor? Chiropractor? I cannot remember his name. She KNEW so the day before the final rose she went to the hotel room to break up with gorgeous Peter (the trainer Peter not pilot Pete) and so now Im calling bull. Because clearly the lead has more control than they want to make us think. Zach could have done the same with Gabi and given her more dignity.
Other bachelors had sent home women before the final day so only the woman chosen would remain but I’m sure producers had EVERYTHING to do with this ending.
I get it, but it's not like the producers are threatening to kill his family and I doubt he can't look at the contract to know what they can and can't ask, he made the choice.
I don't know if I agree with Ariel's "you took away my agency by deciding by yourself that we wouldn't have sex" argument. If one person doesn't want to have sex I don't feel like that should be open for discussion. If the roles had been reversed and a man was telling a woman that her deciding on her own that they wouldn't have sex took away his agency it wouldn't sound great. EDIT: After reading the replies, I actually do see what Ariel meant now. People have pointed out that Zach making a blanket statement made it seem like her wanting to bone was a given, and she probably wishes she would have had a chance to give her own stance on the subject rather than being treated like a child. I'm editing the comment rather than deleting it because I like the explanations that people have given in my replies and I hope others can read them too!
She meant that it wasnt a discussion. She also did not plan on having sex, but that was a convo she expected to have off camera (as it normally is) and instead he spoke to her in a way that made her feel like he had made the assumption that she obviously wanted to bone. He didn't need to make a sweeping statement, he could have asked her how she felt, and would have learned that she had reservations about having sex and he would then agree issue solved.
That is true. I do agree that he should have had that discussion in private instead of a week in advance with Jesse Palmer. He didn't really take away her agency to have sex, because of consent. But he did take away their joint opportunity to discuss it as a couple because he dictated on camera. Even if the decision doesn't change, discussing it first as equals shows more respect.

My respect for Gabi & Ariel skyrocketed after watching this episode (which, in my area, had good sound the whole time). I'm really curious if the producers pressured Zack to keep stringing Gabi along. The process has become formulaic. Love & commitment does not follow a predictable route and it seems cruel to insist that the bachelor keep around ladies that he knows will be leaving before the final rose. I can understand that producers and sponsors would never allow the final episode(s) to feature only the happy couple, but watching Zack lie to Gabi's face is not a good look.
If I were Zach I would have been tempted to make like Clare and Dale and walk out early with Kaity. It was clear from the beginning that they would end up together no matter what roadblocks came up along the way.
@@lornes2492 (Not) funnily enough, I seriously believe Zach knew it was Kaity after the museum date. Zach falls very fast and hard. In the process, the rest of the women became side characters to his story. Their presence/feelings aside from Kaity's became an inconvenience for him. Clearly, Kaity became the only one who mattered to him over time. Because he thought less of the others, he handled everything about letting them go, especially Gabi and Ariel, poorly. He could've easily let them go whenever earlier in the season or as you said, walked hand in hand with Kaity long before. To spare us from this hot mess. 🤦♀
I knew at the time when he told kaity about him and Gabi on overnights, and not Ariel.... I knew he was picking kaity which makes it feel even worse.. somehow. I feel for Gabi when she said I feel like I'm wearing a scarlet letter and an accessory to a crime
Regarding when Zach knew Katie was the one... Katie was his favorite from the beginning. Former Leads have said in interviews that Producers start asking them the first night for their top 4-6 preferable choices. These become the 1-1 on dates. Read the Edit. Katie got the early overnight date. Kate got help from Production with the Care package she could not handled herself because she could not have left the hotel. Katie got help making the Hometown date look like a couple's situation. Katie got the winner's last Fantasty Date. Gabi was a good runner-up. She is a sweetheart, but Zach knew from night 1 it was Katie. He did not even talk to Gabi on the Meet and Greet. He wasn't impressed enough with her to go get her like he was Katie. It was Katie.
This man says he knew it was Kaity on the final chance date to the live audience, tells Gabi during the break up it wasn’t until the night before, but OBVIOUSLY he already knew before going into the overnight dates or else he would have told Ariel he went back on his word and he wouldn’t have made the whole rose ceremony a huge apology to Kaity alone. He has known it was her for a long time and was panicking to salvage the relationship after sleeping with Gabi. When Zach told Gabi he had to tell because he didn’t want to build a relationship on a secret or lie, he was being truthful, but what he meant is he didn’t want to build his relationship with Kaity on a secret or a lie.
is it just me or did they never use that clip of kaity you had saved where she’s in that green dress with foliage around (that you reffered to often in your preview analysis videos) her this season?
The only person he cared about being honest with was Kaity, because he knew he was going to pick her. That's why he told her about being intimate with someone else... so that THEIR relationship could move forward without any secrets. If he knew he was going to pick Gabi, he would have kept it between them and would not have felt that he needed to tell anyone else. So he knew he was going to pick Kaity. It's pretty obvious when you think about it. And yeah, he's not the greatest guy in the end, afterall.

remember when RS said that Gabi was caught reading the “how to win the bachelor” book while at the mansion? it was uncertain if they were gonna air it on the show or not, and they decided not to. probably because it wasn’t a big deal and Gabi was there to find love with Zach. I couldn’t help but feel bad for her on the AFR/finale. you can tell she’s still struggling with their breakup as well as going through emotional trauma from what happened during the Fantasy Suites. IMO I feel that at some points during the show, the editing producers gave gabi a weird edit. they’ve kinda made it look like she was gonna break his vow of no intimacy when that wasn’t the case. gabi did nothing wrong. it was Zach’s own rule that he broke which should’ve been a private conversation in the first place. he did her dirty by telling Jesse and Kaity all while Bachelor Nation watched when he said he wasn’t going to. he broke his promise with Gabi. but the producers were also a major part of the drama. they should not have aired those conversations but they did. it ended up hurting her. I feel that if they really wanted to push a bad edit on Gabi they would’ve showed her reading the book. there’s many different kinds of edits (or archetypes) they can give to a contestant. I have read the book too and it talks about all that. Gabi deserves so much better!
Dude something about Ariel in this episode was so freaking cool to me. I don't know what it is, she just has a great vibe. Also I hope to hell Gabby finds someone amazing who chooses her. She seems like such a sweet person.
Not defending Zach’s actions, what he did to Gabi and how he handled the FS situation was very much wrong. But he didn’t lie to her at the final rose ceremony when he said he didn’t make the decision until the night before. During Zach and Kaity’s media tour Zach said that they aired his final dates in the wrong order. He had his date with Gabi first, and Kaity last, so when he said he knew after their last date on ATFR, that would have been the night before the rose ceremony.
To be fair, you don’t really have an automatic right to voice your agency when someone has a boundary. Obviously he walked over that boundary himself, but someone is allowed to say “I will not allow this” without hearing how you feel.. especially as it pertains to having sex.
HOLD ON! but if said Person A made the decision not to have sex or not allowing something without telling someone that Person A does not Allow it or don't wanted to have sex, how can Person B or Person C know not to Cross that Boundary when Said Boundary was never talked about? do Person B or Person C are they supposed to guess about said Boundary? what Choice do Person B or C get in this topic? do they not get to have a word on it? ? ? ? ? ?

Do you guys remember when Zach winked at Kaity a couple of episodes ago? That definitely felt like a “you’re the one” wink. He knew for a while. Never doubt your intuition.
I absolutely hate the traditional break up at the proposal site thing. It's needlessly cruel to the one who isn't chosen and then taints the actual proposal. I really wish he had gone to talk to Gabi that morning before getting ready so she didn't have to be put through the anxiety of not knowing and then his proposal to Kaity would have felt more happy if we hadn't seen him just break it off with Gabi in the same spot like an hour earlier.
I agree it's cruel to continue that stupid trick or the lead telling their final choice they are no longer falling in love with them before telling them they are head over heals in love with them. But even worse is the traditional ending where the #2 has to go through the limousine/beach rejection. It's unnecessarily heartbreaking and even makes it hard to be joyful for the final engagement. Several of the more considerate leads such as Tayshia Adams, Katie Thurston, and Matt James, have spared their #2 this horrid experience by ending it earlier. To all future leads: let's just stop it once and for all.
What Ariel said about agency really rubbed me the wrong way. Setting a personal boundary about sex is not robbing agency from the other person. (Agency over what, another person’s body?) If Zach does not want to have sex with you, he who has every right to tell you that. That is _not_ a couple decision that is a personal decision that he has every right to express. Now, if she had said that she wished Zach had asked her what she felt about it, I could understand. But she’s talking as though Zach did something wrong by telling her he doesn’t want to have sex and that is not OK. Imagine a guy trying to overstep a girls boundaries by saying it’s a couples decision whether or not to have sex and not her personal choice. You best believe this would not be viewed as ok. There is no question that Zach could have and should have handled the fantasy suite so much better. But she can say that without invalidating his right to choose for himself about sex.
I had the exact same reaction! That is a personal decision and a partner who won’t let you make that decision for yourself/wants input on that personal decision seems extremely problematic to me. Kinda can’t believe no one else is viewing it like this
I agree that an individual person has every right to make that choice for themselves and it doesn't have to be a decision that a couple makes together. That bothered me too.

I get your point for sure, but what I took from Ariel’s comment that it was sort of a power move. Obviously Zach set his boundary (which he broke lol) and that’s his right to set it, but by making that statement without getting the girls’ input first, then he has eliminated their ability to share their thoughts on the subject. If I was on a date and the guy said, “just so you know, sex is off the table” I would be offended for him even assuming that sex was on the table to begin with. Makes it seem like he shut me down when in reality I wasn’t offering. Does that make sense? Imo, the conversation should have not been public in the first place-it should have been private.

On the one hand we all want a traditional season and when things go crazy before the end we get upset at the bachelor, but on the other hand we get angry at Zack for stringing along Gabby. No one deserves to be proposed to by someone who decided on it the night before, it only makes sense for the bachelor to know for a few days. The problem isn't with Zack stringing Gabby along as much as the problem is that the format makes no sense...

If I could describe Zach in one word, it would be thoughtless. That is how he conducted himself all season with the women. He slept with Gabi and then ruined their moment by telling her he was going to tell Kaity, ignoring everything she said the previous night about her past relationships. Also by telling Kaity, he ignored her past with unfaithfulness in her relationships. He shamed Greer for her career comments. He shamed Jess for crying and being confused about where they stood. And as Ariel already pointed out, he undermined her autonomy with the stupid no sex rule and by keeping her in the dark about sleeping with Gabi. And then to top it all off, he started treating Gabi like a stranger and kept her and said words of affirmation to her and still kept her. If he is telling the truth when he said he knew a while back it was Kaity, it makes his actions with Gabi and sleeping with her feel all the more thoughtless.
His thoughtlessness is going to get him into more trouble down the line or however long he stays with Kaity. The guy just doesn’t think things through and how it will affect other people.
I hope he grows and learns from this.
10000% especially I think Zach was too focused on how viewers will perceive him as a 'good' and 'smart' bachelor, when in reality he never accounted for the feelings of the actual women, never spent genuine time to build a relationship, leaving women entirely heartbroken and confused for leading them on. What a dumpster of a person, feel so bad for these women and lowkey never want to support the Bachelor franchise again.

Telling someone you don't want to have sex is not undermining their autonomy. That is laughable, have you ever heard of CONSENT? If either party removes consent from sex at any point for any reason, then you do not have the AUTONOMY to change that opinion. That would be called rape.
Ariel's statement on the "no sex" rule was a joke. If I am dating a girl and she tells me she doesn't want to have sex, I don't get to cry and say she took away my autonomy(you have to autonomy to masturbate, not the right to some elses body). That is insane.
@@randomnobody9229 while you are right about normal dating -- this is the bachelor and it's been pretty clear for multiple seasons that sex is on the table for the fantasy suites as the default (at least until one or both parties decide it isn't). Zach was within his rights to say he didn't want sex but it came off as more dictatorial than something he had decided. (producers manipulations).

I think he let her on. The fact that he made such a big deal about it being no sex week, and then had sex with her, and then told her to be a secret just between them, definitely as final pick behavior. I think he knew that was his only chance to sleep with her, so he took it, and then regretted it the next day, because he knew it would hurt the one he was planning on proposing to, and wanted to absolve himself of his sins by confessing. He should’ve let Gabbi go long before he did.

Zach’s facial expressions the whole season have been such a red flag for me, they were so controlled the whole time, especially tense moments…
Regarding when he "knew," Zach said they aired the final dates in reverse. Gabi was first and then Kaity. So he knew the night before, right after his date with Kaity. It does line up. The editing made it look like he was contradicting himself.
When Gabi asks Zack if he regrets sleeping with her, his reaction reminds me of Mark Whalberg’s “What? No.” meme from The Happening. So bad and so unconvincing. Yikes.

Me too. He reminds me of specific narcissistic people I've known in my life. I found watching him very triggering and have mostly kept up with this season through recaps like the awesome Bach fantake and others. I can't watch the scenes of him gaslighting women without feeling it in my nervous system. People like him are dangerous.

I found it very interesting that Jesse opened with condolences for Nashville, but said NOTHING about the tornado that tore through Mississippi the previous weekend, killing 23 and devastating so many families. 1. I don't believe that Ariel needed to be told that Zach slept with Abi.
2. I honestly believe that everyone gets really horny with all of the kissing and physical touch which leads the Bachelors and some Bachelorettes to have sex with people they don't intend to choose at the end. Think about Hannah B., Pete, and the windmill!
3. Producers intentionally put either the people who abstain from sex or are the most likely to be the final pick last during Fantasy Suite week in order to maximize conflict and trauma.
I really wanted to be happy for them - but based on what Zach did to Ariel & Gabi, I really have doubts about Zach & Kaity’s relationship.

Zach did not apologize to anyone. "I am so sorry, Gabi...". This guy is lacks communication skills, especially with women.

Zach didn’t understand that the reason why it worked for Sean is because of his strong Christian conviction. He was just focused on being a bachelor like Sean and that is not a strong enough conviction.
I was hesitant this year watching the Bachelor but did anyway and now wonder why? Didn’t care for Zach at all and he didn’t disappoint. What a screw up. Both Ariel and Gabi were class acts. Nothing wrong with Katie but she seemed like the easy choice. I wish them well but I think the past relationships will once again repeat. I hope not. Let’s move on to next season.

I don’t like Zach. Ariel’s conversation was truly perfect! Zach was so focused on finding his wife but he is going to be someone’s husband. He couldn’t even articulate why he would be a good partner.
Why does this show believe by throwing sean lowe or jared/ashley and other bachelor success stories (few and far between) in our faces we will forget how actual shi this show is. Every season by the end I'm so irritated. At least this season had me until "sex week".

So glad to have the recaps, because the full show would be so hard to watch! Zach seemed so dense emotionally the entire time and all that nonsense at the end was scripted, it really isn't fair to the Bachelor or his pick. The fake out was the worst, not funny or cute. I don't know, I just wish they'd change it up a little now and then. And I'm not talking about the host
I’m just gonna be the voice of reason here to say: Zach is not a bad person and everyone can see that. He tried to do the right thing, and be honest - but he was off base and was too in his head and too overwhelmed to make what seem clear when you’re watching - to be the right choices.
But that doesn’t give people the liberty to be so judgmental. Every woman who signs up for this show knows how this process works. People get dumped. People make mistakes. This is just life and I feel sad that this franchise seems to be a big way for people to judge. Please - those who have always been perfect and done the right thing in every single moment of every single relationship - please be the first to throw the stone.
Remember when Gabi herself said’ maybe we’ll have sex maybe we won’t’ - you don’t know what happened in that night, and Gabi was already quick to open the question if her sex life to the public. She also knew that when zach came to talk to her about actually wanting to tell Kaity what happened - it was on camera - therefore automatically telling everyone. Feigning ignorance around that was confusing to me.
With that - heartbreak sucks. I feel for her. She deserves love just like everyone else .

I like Kaity + Zach, but I personally found it hard to feel joy for them straight after witnessing that brutal breakup with Gabi. Also the fact that a woman on the show felt humiliated and violated in regards to the revelation of her sex life by a man she trusted left a really bad taste in my mouth. The Bachelor shows have a bit of a poor record in regards to how women's sexuality is portrayed and received by the audience. I hope Gabi is uplifted by her supporters and finds some peace.

1. This entire finale could have been an email.
2. I feel horrible for what Gabby went through and wouldn’t blame her if she wanted nothing to do with the franchise moving forward. Regardless of the “traditional season” marketing this honestly soured an otherwise happy entire ending for me.
3. Ariel said on a podcast that she knows what happened between Rachel and Zach but can’t spill…

This show has always been extremely problematic. In Sean’s season Lindsay thought she was getting proposed and was rejected but people talk about his season like it’s some fairytale ending.
People seem to want the lead to somehow string people along, something the show is based on, yet do it in a way were someone isn’t hurt. It’s just weird all around.
It’s probably a contract thing. At some point we’ll know
Seemed like Zach made up his mind by the end of the fantasy suites for who he was going to end up with. As a man, him not making contact with Gabby at the rose ceremony is most likely due to just feeling ashamed and embarrassed, especially when it is in front of the one he wanted all along (Kaity). Sucks that while he was advertised as a great guy, he seems like he cannot navigate or invest in dealing with very tough emotions or situations.

First of all, all hail Queen Gabi. She dealt with everything like a complete boss. Zach did her so dirty at every opportunity (though I don’t believe he did so maliciously) and I’m honestly surprised she even showed up. This season started off so well with Zach actually looking like a mature and wholesome bachelor, and then still ended like a dumpster fire.
I feel like Gabi and Greer got the most abused by production and the show this season.
Turns out nobody’s perfect. I still think overall Zach did a good job, other than overnights.

It's so funny that Zach prided himself on being honest and when it mattered the most, he was very dishonest. He was dishonest with Ariel, by keeping her in the dark, he was dishonest with Gabi when he said to her in private "this is between us" and then goes and tell it to Jesse and everyone watching, and he told Gabi he wanted to come clean but only talked with Katy. He was dishonest with Gabi when he said that he made his choice the night before, but then told on camera that the day of his last date with Katy he knew.
I hope they last, for Katy's sake, but if they break up, I hope it is Katy who calls it quit, because if he is the one who does it, he just will be another man that abandons her... and the franchise doesn't have a good track record. But we'll see.

I’ve never rooted for a contestant as much as I am for Gabi. My heart aches so much watching her going through this final episode. I strongly believe that she knew that it was not her immediately after the previous rose ceremony. She tried so hard to believe him yet ended up so heartbroken. Zach’s words and actions never matched. I've known from the very beginning of the season that Zach will be wack. As much as he was trying to 'stay away from all the drama', he actually made women feel insecure and not wanted. I feel soooo bad for Gabby, she absolutely did not deserve the brutality of waiting for WEEKS to then get dumped the last day. As much as Zach wanted to stick with his 'no drama' and 'super in-touch with what women want' narrative, it actually was just a way to show to the viewers how he wanted his personality to look like on TV. In reality, he ended up being exactly like all other dumpster bachelor's that we've had in the past.
Not sure if Katie and Zach will stay together, they might. But all could have been avoided if Zach was just honest and transparent to all women, instead of worrying about how everyone will perceive his personality on TV.

Yes, the syrup thing is real. As soon as he said that it made me think they were not meant to be. First it doesn't take a genius to tell that the fake syrup was a world apart from the other three. But besides that she's from Vermont and super tight with her family. She'll need to live close by and I can't imagine SoCal/Texas Zach moving to Vermont. (Coming from a person who has lived here for the last 40 years)

They brought up a few times that the sexual relations between Z & G was consensual, and sure, they both consented. However she did not consent to it being broadcast. He said that it was just between them, but how long after he left the fantasy suite did he go running to Jesse? Did he even shower first?
It was weighing on his conscience. He felt he had to be honest with Kaity and his actions might have blown it. Also, Gaby wasn’t shy at all about letting the audience know that she was going to try and change his mind. If she was really concerned about her innocence she wouldn’t have done that.

Seeing Gabi in the ATFR broke my heart. It seems like she has really been traumatized by this entire situation and I hope she stays away from the bachelor franchise, is able to heal, and finds real true unconditional love. She deserves it. It’s difficult to feel happy for Zach and Kaity after seeing how arrogant and thoughtless he has behaved towards multiple women on the show.
For those who argue Gabi should've known what she signed up for so her feelings aren't totally valid, Zach hurt her in a way we could never have envisioned. My whole heart goes out to her. I wish her happiness and healing! ❤
I personally don't think Gabi should've come on this show if she had those insecurities, but Zach shouldn't have slept with her if there was a possibility he'd send her home. Mind you I'd say the same for Hannah Brown with Peter Weber and we all know how that turned out.
@@speedude0164 You may say that, but I see Gabi's presence this season as a real gift. What happened to her was a really eye-opening callback to the savage nature of the show. The way the show's been built for Zach to strive to be an optimal Bachelor gave him the volition to hurt her in a brutal way that production exploited to a T. I give her grace because in spite of her insecurities, she eagerly took the chance to pursue him because she and her family saw they had so much in common. I commend that. Throughout the process, she let down her walls with him and they bonded so well. And despite her insecurities at moments clouding her better judgment, she persevered because she loved him. Everything she did took courage. And tremendous love. She overcame a lot with him and for him. But in the aftermath of production/Zach's mistreatment, it's heartbreaking to see all we saw happen to a wonderful person.

In fact it's plastered in the very concept of the show; one that glorifies leading people on and cheating, and our dumb asses still choose to watch it. Since Gabi's insecurity was about being the 2nd choice, there likely wouldn't have been any way to spare her of a lot of this pain even if Zach did everything right. That said I wish Gabi the best and I hope she never appears on any of these shows again. She's a great person and I hope at the very least the support she's getting from the fanbase will help her gain more self-respect.

@@speedude0164 I appreciate your point, but I disagree that Gabi would have been just as upset if she had been rejected by say, someone with a Sean Lowe level of respect and discretion throughout the season. The reason I suspect this is that Gabi is far from the only woman on this season who was in a lot of psychological distress because of Zach's behaviour. I think he's the main variable in why Gabi wasn't just heartbroken, but traumatized.

This show and its producers continue to strike me out (in a bad way) time and time again. What happened with Gabi was horrible and to me seems like a plot from producers Zach couldn’t get out of. He easily could’ve let her go when he knew at the end of Kaity’s last chance. But the producers likely wanted the “traditional” ending to go with their “traditional” Bachelor. But c’mon ABC, stop putting people through the wringer!! It might be a last straw for me supporting the actual show itself… BUT if that’s the route I take, Fantake I will still continue to watch YOU for the best takes, memes, and Bachelor content ever.

Gabbis interview with Zach on after the final rose really worried me, for her. She knew she got screwed not only Zack but the show too. She’s an example of this stuff really affecting peoples lives…and her mentioned mental health over and over combined with her mannerisms just made me worry. I hope she will be okay & knows she can do SO much better ❤
I feel the same. I’ve watched the past 3 or 4 seasons, and Rachel and Gabbie were hard enough, but this round with Gabi was next level. I truly feel sick knowing they picked her as some sort of sacrificial lamb to be drug through the mud for drama. She’s a real person and reminds me a lot of myself as far as insecurities. Going through something like that.. I would not be okay. There is nothing okay about facilitating psychological abuse, especially on someone who is clearly sensitive and dealing with prior trauma. I hope Gabi gets a lot of help dealing with this and meets someone who gets what a beautiful person she is.

Well about the producers pressuring you know what this bachelor fantake video made me think of? Rachel’s season where she knew she was going to end up with what’s his face, the doctor? Chiropractor? I cannot remember his name. She KNEW so the day before the final rose she went to the hotel room to break up with gorgeous Peter (the trainer Peter not pilot Pete) and so now Im calling bull. Because clearly the lead has more control than they want to make us think. Zach could have done the same with Gabi and given her more dignity.
Other bachelors had sent home women before the final day so only the woman chosen would remain but I’m sure producers had EVERYTHING to do with this ending.
I get it, but it's not like the producers are threatening to kill his family and I doubt he can't look at the contract to know what they can and can't ask, he made the choice.
I don't know if I agree with Ariel's "you took away my agency by deciding by yourself that we wouldn't have sex" argument. If one person doesn't want to have sex I don't feel like that should be open for discussion. If the roles had been reversed and a man was telling a woman that her deciding on her own that they wouldn't have sex took away his agency it wouldn't sound great.
EDIT: After reading the replies, I actually do see what Ariel meant now. People have pointed out that Zach making a blanket statement made it seem like her wanting to bone was a given, and she probably wishes she would have had a chance to give her own stance on the subject rather than being treated like a child. I'm editing the comment rather than deleting it because I like the explanations that people have given in my replies and I hope others can read them too!
Taken in context she was saying that he made it a decision for the girls as a group instead of dealing with her as an individual.
She meant that it wasnt a discussion. She also did not plan on having sex, but that was a convo she expected to have off camera (as it normally is) and instead he spoke to her in a way that made her feel like he had made the assumption that she obviously wanted to bone. He didn't need to make a sweeping statement, he could have asked her how she felt, and would have learned that she had reservations about having sex and he would then agree issue solved.
That is true. I do agree that he should have had that discussion in private instead of a week in advance with Jesse Palmer. He didn't really take away her agency to have sex, because of consent. But he did take away their joint opportunity to discuss it as a couple because he dictated on camera. Even if the decision doesn't change, discussing it first as equals shows more respect.

Love being able to get 3 hours summarized in 17 mins. I had no interest in watching Zach.
My respect for Gabi & Ariel skyrocketed after watching this episode (which, in my area, had good sound the whole time). I'm really curious if the producers pressured Zack to keep stringing Gabi along. The process has become formulaic. Love & commitment does not follow a predictable route and it seems cruel to insist that the bachelor keep around ladies that he knows will be leaving before the final rose. I can understand that producers and sponsors would never allow the final episode(s) to feature only the happy couple, but watching Zack lie to Gabi's face is not a good look.
If I were Zach I would have been tempted to make like Clare and Dale and walk out early with Kaity. It was clear from the beginning that they would end up together no matter what roadblocks came up along the way.

In the process, the rest of the women became side characters to his story. Their presence/feelings aside from Kaity's became an inconvenience for him. Clearly, Kaity became the only one who mattered to him over time. Because he thought less of the others, he handled everything about letting them go, especially Gabi and Ariel, poorly. He could've easily let them go whenever earlier in the season or as you said, walked hand in hand with Kaity long before. To spare us from this hot mess. 🤦♀
I knew at the time when he told kaity about him and Gabi on overnights, and not Ariel.... I knew he was picking kaity which makes it feel even worse.. somehow. I feel for Gabi when she said I feel like I'm wearing a scarlet letter and an accessory to a crime
Regarding when Zach knew Katie was the one...
Katie was his favorite from the beginning. Former Leads have said in interviews that Producers start asking them the first night for their top 4-6 preferable choices. These become the 1-1 on dates. Read the Edit. Katie got the early overnight date. Kate got help from Production with the Care package she could not handled herself because she could not have left the hotel. Katie got help making the Hometown date look like a couple's situation. Katie got the winner's last Fantasty Date.
Gabi was a good runner-up. She is a sweetheart, but Zach knew from night 1 it was Katie. He did not even talk to Gabi on the Meet and Greet. He wasn't impressed enough with her to go get her like he was Katie. It was Katie.
This man says he knew it was Kaity on the final chance date to the live audience, tells Gabi during the break up it wasn’t until the night before, but OBVIOUSLY he already knew before going into the overnight dates or else he would have told Ariel he went back on his word and he wouldn’t have made the whole rose ceremony a huge apology to Kaity alone. He has known it was her for a long time and was panicking to salvage the relationship after sleeping with Gabi.
When Zach told Gabi he had to tell because he didn’t want to build a relationship on a secret or lie, he was being truthful, but what he meant is he didn’t want to build his relationship with Kaity on a secret or a lie.

The only person he cared about being honest with was Kaity, because he knew he was going to pick her. That's why he told her about being intimate with someone else... so that THEIR relationship could move forward without any secrets. If he knew he was going to pick Gabi, he would have kept it between them and would not have felt that he needed to tell anyone else. So he knew he was going to pick Kaity. It's pretty obvious when you think about it. And yeah, he's not the greatest guy in the end, afterall.

remember when RS said that Gabi was caught reading the “how to win the bachelor” book while at the mansion? it was uncertain if they were gonna air it on the show or not, and they decided not to. probably because it wasn’t a big deal and Gabi was there to find love with Zach. I couldn’t help but feel bad for her on the AFR/finale. you can tell she’s still struggling with their breakup as well as going through emotional trauma from what happened during the Fantasy Suites. IMO I feel that at some points during the show, the editing producers gave gabi a weird edit. they’ve kinda made it look like she was gonna break his vow of no intimacy when that wasn’t the case. gabi did nothing wrong. it was Zach’s own rule that he broke which should’ve been a private conversation in the first place. he did her dirty by telling Jesse and Kaity all while Bachelor Nation watched when he said he wasn’t going to. he broke his promise with Gabi. but the producers were also a major part of the drama. they should not have aired those conversations but they did. it ended up hurting her. I feel that if they really wanted to push a bad edit on Gabi they would’ve showed her reading the book. there’s many different kinds of edits (or archetypes) they can give to a contestant. I have read the book too and it talks about all that. Gabi deserves so much better!
Dude something about Ariel in this episode was so freaking cool to me. I don't know what it is, she just has a great vibe. Also I hope to hell Gabby finds someone amazing who chooses her. She seems like such a sweet person.

Not defending Zach’s actions, what he did to Gabi and how he handled the FS situation was very much wrong. But he didn’t lie to her at the final rose ceremony when he said he didn’t make the decision until the night before. During Zach and Kaity’s media tour Zach said that they aired his final dates in the wrong order. He had his date with Gabi first, and Kaity last, so when he said he knew after their last date on ATFR, that would have been the night before the rose ceremony.
To be fair, you don’t really have an automatic right to voice your agency when someone has a boundary. Obviously he walked over that boundary himself, but someone is allowed to say “I will not allow this” without hearing how you feel.. especially as it pertains to having sex.

I absolutely hate the traditional break up at the proposal site thing. It's needlessly cruel to the one who isn't chosen and then taints the actual proposal. I really wish he had gone to talk to Gabi that morning before getting ready so she didn't have to be put through the anxiety of not knowing and then his proposal to Kaity would have felt more happy if we hadn't seen him just break it off with Gabi in the same spot like an hour earlier.

I agree it's cruel to continue that stupid trick or the lead telling their final choice they are no longer falling in love with them before telling them they are head over heals in love with them. But even worse is the traditional ending where the #2 has to go through the limousine/beach rejection. It's unnecessarily heartbreaking and even makes it hard to be joyful for the final engagement. Several of the more considerate leads such as Tayshia Adams, Katie Thurston, and Matt James, have spared their #2 this horrid experience by ending it earlier. To all future leads: let's just stop it once and for all.
What Ariel said about agency really rubbed me the wrong way. Setting a personal boundary about sex is not robbing agency from the other person. (Agency over what, another person’s body?) If Zach does not want to have sex with you, he who has every right to tell you that. That is _not_ a couple decision that is a personal decision that he has every right to express.
Now, if she had said that she wished Zach had asked her what she felt about it, I could understand. But she’s talking as though Zach did something wrong by telling her he doesn’t want to have sex and that is not OK. Imagine a guy trying to overstep a girls boundaries by saying it’s a couples decision whether or not to have sex and not her personal choice. You best believe this would not be viewed as ok.
There is no question that Zach could have and should have handled the fantasy suite so much better. But she can say that without invalidating his right to choose for himself about sex.

Obviously Zach set his boundary (which he broke lol) and that’s his right to set it, but by making that statement without getting the girls’ input first, then he has eliminated their ability to share their thoughts on the subject. If I was on a date and the guy said, “just so you know, sex is off the table” I would be offended for him even assuming that sex was on the table to begin with.
