    OMG I'VE HAD HIS CARROT CAKE!!! I was in Singapore last November with my sisters and we decided to give it a try and it was delicious!!! I thought it was meat when I had it but thanks to this video, I guess it wasn't meat after all lol. Nothing at all like the Carrot cake you think about here in the states but oh so good!

    For those who are curious, this stall is called Fu Ming Cooked Food at Redhill Centre. One of the best black "chai tow kuay" in my opinion.

    There are 3 types of people:
    1) People who like the white carrot cake.
    2) People who like the dark carrot cake.
    3) People who think carrot cake should have cream cheese frosting.

    To everyone commenting that it shouldn't be called carrot cake because it's neither cake Nor made of carrots, you're right. It's called this way simply due to translation error. Radish and carrot sound similar in Hokkien, so when it was being translated, we got stuck with carrot. And it's called cake because there wasn't a better English translation for "kueh", the closest is cake. The meaning of the words just got confused along the way after many many years, and it's been this way for a long time now so please don't hate unnecessarily on the fact that it's not called what it is.

    • @PirateKing1256
      @PirateKing1256 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah I thought it was strange why its carrot cake. I even eat it slowly and savour it to try to taste the carrot.
      I conclude that it's fake and made of just flour.

    • @star12341998
      @star12341998 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PirateKing1256 well a part of it is certainly flour. It’s grated radish mixed with flour, then steamed, and then cut into pieces and stir fried. There’s no carrot, but there’s definitely radish.

    In Taiwan, my Grandmother handmade those "Carrot Cake" but we call it Radish Cake as early as i can remember from back when i was a kid; but ours is more grated and put together with some ground pork; steamed it and it'll be like a giant round radish cake, then we cut it up and fry it to golden brown. She likes to grate the radish in such a way it's not entirely mashed but theres still some texture and pieces. My favorite food :)

    Singaporeans are so lucky to have this man full of passion for the happiness of others he really likes to make people happy and if the carrot cake makes them happy so be it he says he will do this until his body cannot do it anymore, well it does take your time but management of time and patients and lots of experience and if you love your job those are nothing compare to how it'd make you feel in the end ❤️
    I hope his people appreciate him for even this simple gesture of wanting to make someone happy should be enough and appreciated specially if his done it for so long he needs a recognition for his work💋💋💋 Thank you Uncle I hope God may bless upon you and your family I appreciate your hard work and patience of longer hour to make this cake rather than cutting short and using a robotic equipment to make it faster nothing beats making it from the heart ❤️
    Red💋

    I grew up eating these type of carrot cake and didn't know that there was legit carrot cake (Every time my parents ordered food at a kopitiam, they would get carrot cake and I wished it was really a cake but when it arrived, just a chunck of charred radishes and I soon stopped believing carrot cake existed but I now I know 😋), like legit. But now I know....not a big fan of carrot cake though, but I would like to try the western style.
