I used to speedrun this like 7 years ago, so many strats are different. I love how people continue to find ways to manipulate the game and beat it even faster. Great video and good explanations on this speedrun.
@@seanmcbay it's absolutely nuts. To think a game that came out 30 years ago is still developing changes to get faster records. Probably my favorite glitch is teaching other characters abilities when leveling up using the star. Seeing Peach use Shocker is nuts. I'm guessing they are going to remove a lot of these glitches from the remake they are making.
@@camwyn256it was shown to be isometric. Pretty sure it’s gonna be kept as a faithful remake with updated graphics and animations. Maybe they add some extra NG+ content if we’re lucky.
It's also worth noting that in early versions, the Axem Rangers CONTINUED ATTACKING WHEN DEFEATED, until you beat all 5. I remember thinking this was intentional at the time, to make the fight super hard.
I thought going in it would be an interesting speedrun but it topped my expectations. The amount of precision and strat changes mid run, crazy. Great video
Due to skill swap Peach takes on Genos sprite with her color palette when she uses his moves, I never explained that due to time constraints, but it's a neat visual and I'm glad people are picking up on it
You know what that means... probably a new Mario title coming out soon (jk bowser's fury was released within the last month) or a major glitch is about to be found.

This is awesome. I had no idea there was a speedrun community. I remember when I was younger, this came out AFTER N64 and in my biased opinion, was still better than SM64. I didn’t take my SNES to college (and then it turned out my mother sold it) so I got into emulators *just* for SMRPGLOTSS. Then when the SNES classics came out I promptly jailbroke it and loaded up SMRPG. Almost 30 years and it’s one of the few games I regularly come back to alongside Duke Nukem 3D.
This popped up on my recommendation. Fascinating. You know, here's an interesting tidbit that you probably already knew but just in case you didn't: The Rangers are named after their colors. Well, yeah, we've all played this before so you know that. But even in Japanese, they keep the English name. So Red isn't called Akai, which is Japanese for red. He'd called Reddo, which is the Japanese way of writing the English word "red". Same with the other rangers.
It'll be very interesting to see how similar - and different - the Remake speedruns will be. I'm actually going to doing Remake runs starting tomorrow with using this as my basis.
I'll have a video out soon on remake glitches and skips; there's also a route already developed if you're interested, check out the smrpg discord, you can find it on speedrun dot com
