Just this afternoon I bought the Mobius 65 Nova Gasser. 2 hrs later when the mail came my buddy sent me a built red 65 GTO just like the real GTO he had in 1971. Also a unbuilt still in plastic the Revell 69 Nova COPO. What a great day this has been. We met in our first period math class our freshman yr of high school in Sept. 1966. We found out right away we both loved building models cars.

Awesome comparison video!! When I saw the mobius 64 nova parts tree I immediately noticed how some of it was similar to the Trumpeter 63 nova kit. The 64 had less chome than the 63. That's why it's molded on the 64. The 62 and 63 had that side trim. 65 didn't as well. The placement of the quarter panel trim was also different where 62-64 it was mounted on the side of the quarter panel, while 65 had it mounted on top. That's one reason why it's one year only unobtainium trim. I have waited a long time for these. Of course after I sold my 65 post car they come out with the 65 post gasser kit. Have both the 65 gasser and 64 hardtop to attempt building my current 65 ss. And I have another 65 gasser kit coming so I can build my first 65 nova post car. These are wonderful kits, and can't wait to build them. Again awesome review and comparison!
This car was a special order race only offering. The headers had to be set over the engine mounts then the engine set in on the real car. Keep in mind the Comet was designed for a very small 289 V8. This SOHC 427 was a monster and completely filled the engine bay on a full sized Galaxy. The Hemi Darts, and Barracudas was the same way. The Barracudas was so tight the firewall on the passenger side even with the heater delete had to be bent in with a sledgehammer. The master cylinder had to be swapped out for a much smaller 50s unit, and a bracket made to mount it on an angle.
That was just a part of offering Factory hot rods. 🙂
I just found my Trumpeter kit the other day. And I got the Moebius kit at the Richmond regional IPMS show a couple weekends ago. I’m glad I did. It’s a great kit! Thanks Moebius!
Now the Trumpeter kit, if I going to slick the side I would glue some Evergreen rod in the groove to cut down on the filling. Just my thoughts. But remember, be kind, be patient, stay calm and model on!!!
Im going to just glue the chrome trim in the groove and sand.

I bought both so I can build a replica of my Dad's '64 Nova 2 door post. I've got a 50 year old photo for a reference and the only thing I need is a set of Cragar mags for the front. This will be the second Moebius car kit I've ever done (Chrysler 300 was the first) and I have been blown away by their level of detail. Just outstanding!

I do see myself building multiple versions of the Gasser. It's easy to imagine the stock kit as a old junior stocker, or like what we see at our local cruise nights....

Great addition to the 1963 Nova station wagon that recently came out!
I'd kit bash and use both kits to make what I wanted using the Moebius body so I wouldn't have the chrome trim problem and the Trumpeter chassis so I could narrow the rear end.
I like the side chanels. It makes the side chrome look more realistic, not tacked on over the body. Also, like the rear trunk opening. But price of Mobius beats the Trumpeter, so that is the way I'll go. Years ago, I built an AMT Chevy II. I want to do another, with a better paint job.
Wait for update at the cutlass and the 70 Impala resin kit.

Yea, it barely fits before paint. I have some small machinist files, that I used to widen and deepen the grooves. On another, I used strip plastic, and putty, and filled them in all together.
That Trumpeter kit has some real potential! I like how they've separated components that have generally been molded in, plus all the additional detail usually over looked. It would be nice if Trumpeter and some of the other far east kit makers would expand into classic muscle cars.
Great looking kits. Although, the Trumpeter body looks a bit smaller than the Mobius.
The side trim is the difference from 63 to 64. The 63 has that long wide spear from front to back. The 65 has its own grille, headlight bezels and taillights.

Luka what I would do is find Styrene strips or something glue it in and then sand even I rather see you build your pro street Nova with open trunk and do some detailing in there but just my opinion
Wait till you get the gaster I think you'll find out that moebius already did it kit bash they use different trees for different parts but they shared a lot of trees I'm seriously considering taking that body and doing the gasser with it I like the style of wheels that they chose but I don't like the design where they are specific for those tires did you have any mold flow lines on your body both mine the 64 and 65 had mold flow marks

Nice kit like the comparison between the two kits. Never knew the Trumpeter had that much detail. Guess I missed out on that kit.

63 nova had 6 cylinder & 4 lug wheels. In 64 they went to 5 lug came with 6 & v8. 65 hood & fenders & grills are different

Very nice comparison of the kits. Each have positives and negatives. Depending on how you build it certainly makes a difference of which kit to buy. After seeing reviews and builds, along with the ease of purchasing it, of the Moebius kit, I will definitely buy the Moebius version. Especially, after looking what the Trumpeter kit on eBay. The Trumpeter version is selling for at least $100. Thanks for sharing.
Both kits are set up for showroom stock, so you'll have work to modify it. For those of us who build stock (myself included) we're happy with both kits. Contrary to your experience, I've converted a number of racing kits back to showroom stock. :-)

The '63 Chevy II Nova had a Six cylinder engine. The '64 Chevy II Nova had an optional 283 V-8 engine.
Be careful we will have to do a rivet count be grateful that we have these out
I'm putting this kit together now can't get the rear axle and leaf spring to line up

I want to add that Nova and the Nova Gasser to the stash.
Trumpeter also did a 63 convertible which Moebius can't do (accurately) since Chevrolet dropped the convertible from the Chevy II / Nova lineup after 1963. Which oddly means there was never a factory built Nova convertible with a V8 engine.
Headliners my friend in Florida would put different sayings on them just to see if anyone looks
The pro street 66 Chevy 2 chassis works great under both kits with just a little filing on the sides it's killer looking under both kits

The gasser version has smooth sides with no trim - swap the roof over if you want a coupe rather than a sedan but I think a sedan with a B-pillar makes more sense for a race car.
Those large flat boxes look weird to you but they’re very much the norm outside America. Trumpeter - a Japanese company - wouldn’t have any problem selling those to modellers in Europe and Asia.
That's is a pretty good Idea.
I owned a 62. The only difference I know of is the grill is different between the years.
The 66 ChevyII by Revell is a good kit also it has decals for the emblems and nice detail. I want the Gasser thanks for sharing!

Great review Luka and I've built the trumpeter kit several times and I'd probably say that the Moebius kit is way better, but the trumpeter is alright and I did make a lot of money selling them on Ebay Years ago especially the built ones! Lol
Great video.....Man those are AWESOME AWESOME kits but WAY WAY out of my budget. I do have a couple, my wife found me one on Facebook and my daughter got me one for Xmas so I at least have 2 lol

not hard at all to remove the groove. just glue in the part and sand it down.......fill as needed.

The fact that Trumpeter produced a Nova in the SS trim level with a 6-cylinder under the hood gained them a lot of respect from me. Not every 1:1 car produced in that era came equipped with a V8, 4 bbl., and duals. I felt the same way when Lindberg released their 1964 Dodge 330 with a choice of slant 6 OR V8 power. I just this morning placed an order for another Trumpeter Nova - love that kit!
@@daviddykes3026 Chevrolet didn't offer a V8 in the Chevy II/Nova until 1964, even in the Super Sport. That's why the Trumpeter 63 kit (and the AMT 63 wagon) have 6-cylinders.
The biggest difference between ‘63 and ‘64 is 5 lug wheels in 1964
