All three are immensely talented, but the more I see of Gilbert the more I realize how he has literally mastered his craft. Simply one of the greatest who ever lived. Thank you Paul.
Incredible! Satriani: The patron saint of instrumental shredding. Gilbert: One of the most technically skilled players ever. Petrucci: Fantastic composer and the most influencial guitarist in prog metal.
I love the look on the faces of Paul and Petrucci when Joe starts his first solo at 1:50/1:55 or so - it's like they both thought, like we would - 'Hey, man, it JOE SATRIANI!' The tone and musicality seemed to strike a chord with them.
what made me so impressed with Paul Gilbert is that he not only enjoyed his guitar playing alone, but he also enjoyed what his partners are playing... the way he 'feels the moment' when Joe Satriani and John Petrucci are playing their guitar... the thing I rarely found from any other great guitarists in this world...
I've seen that same look of elation on both Joe and Vai in person. Usually it's when they're watching one of the others like Tony MacAlpine, Steve Morse, Petrucci, etc. They're a great eclectic mix of guys that have no peers but one another.
Satriani doesn’t try to blow your head off with technique or theatrics, but everything he plays fits the song, he seems to always play the right thing for the moment.
But he must be a bitch to play with..especially for Campatelli; Satch sometimes drags out the end of the song with dive-bombs and pig- squeals that never seem to end! ;)
It is just amazing that these guitarists, as well as many others, have such a feel for playing that it is just effortless for them to express themselves musically and emotionally through their instruments. That's what years of persistent practice does for someone willing to put in the time and effort.
Everything in this video is so amazing! It is just perfect. My favorite part is around 4:25 or so when Paul and Satriani start doing these incredible guitar parts that feed off each other so well. It is amazing how talented these musicians are and yet how humble they are! I can't stop watching this video. By far my favorite guitar video.
I think if you make it to the top 100 guitarists, then you are the worlds best! There is no worlds absolute best, there can be more than one! I missed Joe in Australia on his last tour as my father was dieing from cancer, I hope he come out again soon as I want to shake his hand. His music has kept me positive/sane since 1991.
Satch is No.1 because he knows WHEN to play and when to lay low. It's not about how many notes you can play. It's playing with feeling and soul. If your playing can flood your audience with inspiration and passion, then that is all that matters. Satriani has soul and passion like no other player. Because of that, he has them all beat hands down. Rock on Mr. Satriani, Rock on!
I love watching Paul bliss out at Joe;s tone at 1.56 or so. And then John looks over to give a little nod - like, 'Hey, man, Joe Satriani. Phuw.' I just listened to this for an hour. It could be my favourite youtube guitar moment. Thank you.
I love how Paul has the simplest rig of all three of them and still gets the amazing tones he is getting. Petrucci's setup is big and bulky but sounds great and Satch's setup is kinda big too and sounds great.
I saw this show in Phoenix, and it was an incredible show. These G3's are a one of a kind show. When they played this tune, Paul Gilbert was feelin it. Its an emotional song especially when Joe plays it live. You could tell once Paul Gilbert walked out jamming this, that he was lovin it. Its kind of weird that Satch will be in Denver October 4th for Elephants of Mars, and just down the way Michael Schenker and Mr. Big are playing the same night. Same time as well.
I love Satch and Paul. You can tell by the looks on their faces that they love what they do. That being able to wake up and play music everyday of their lives is just the best thing in the world to them. Music is all about expression and feeling, and while a lot of people argue that shredders don't have feeling or taste, all it take is one look at these guys to disprove that.
big fans of them all. paul gilbert just has so much groove in his improv, petrucci has the classical feel, and MAN satriani can make his guitar sing. like really sing.
Fuckin amazing. Take three of the best guitarists ever and combine them into one show. I would have never been able to comprehend that if I was at that show. My head would literally explode.
To me Troosh will always be my favorite, but I believe that nobody on this planet is better than Satriani. He always has this air about him that he's just relaxing and having fun, never really pushing it. It's the part I haven't seen of him that really makes me believe that he's the best.
MAN I love each one of their tones! GIlbert has that rock n roll single coil twang sound, Petrucci's has this amazing ambient edge almost vocal like too, and Satriani's has this exotic great singing tone.
That's the GREAT thing about the internet. It's an open venue for intelligent exchange of ideas and opinions and then on top of that there's even room for guys like you.:)
Three amongst the most humble musicians today ... they're guitar gods but they are just so down to earth! I wouldn't pick a guitar 100 ft near any of these guys, but it would be fun to have a beer with them ... just sit back and let them talk about what drives them on ... :)
Agreed. And just before that, when satch started that awesome what ever that was. I couldn't help but laugh with sheer joy. JP's face was like "Dude, awesome"
shit man tears in my eyes almost Petrucci was loving that shit and was totaly in harmony with Joe, Watching petrucci up there is probably be what i would be like if i got to jam with joe, total awe and respect.
The quality of this video, both audio and visual, is great. Thanks for posting this. These are 3 of my fave guitarists. Saw them together at the Uptown in KC. Great line-up of musicians, including all the players.
I've been looking for all of these. I saw them at Warner theater in DC and the final jam was so fantastic. When they hit the jamming crescendo, it was like butter.
Life's too short. Listening to these guys is a blessing!
All three are immensely talented, but the more I see of Gilbert the more I realize how he has literally mastered his craft. Simply one of the greatest who ever lived. Thank you Paul.
Paul Gilbert - what a guitarist ! This has got to be one of his best improvisations . So much energy
And very melodic indeed love it
they sync so well with each other it like they are born to play together. so inspirational
Amazing guitarists...that being said....Gilbert has the best phrasing.....it's just heavenly!
WOW Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert and Jesus together ¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡¡

I Was There, It Was Absolutely Amazing Show 🎸🎸🎸
One of the most brilliant G3 ever. Thumbs up if you agree!
Satriani doesn’t try to blow your head off with technique or theatrics, but everything he plays fits the song, he seems to always play the right thing for the moment.

Satch stole the Show
@@chrisvaughn6381 , he didnt steal it, he CREATED it, big difference.
Anyone who thinks that these guys aren't tasteful should watch this.
Simply beautiful.
The Three Kings. Absolutely Brilliant. One of the best jams I have heard. I really hope this makes it to DVD or CD one day.

God I love Gilbert. I came here to watch Petrucci (cause he is one of my favorites as well) but damn Gilbert sounded incredible.

They all crush it. Especially Paul.
He is to be feared.
paul topped it off with that awesome improv!!
See John's face at 5:28, it seems he's saying: "Oh my god what a jam"!
spettacolo questi si ke sn maghi delle chitarra...pazzeski.....da una semplice canzone ti cacciano melodie spettacolari..siete grandi

Rock on Mr. Satriani, Rock on!
3:26 The exact time you realize who is the master
Lol I feel like Petrucci was kinda lost near the end
This is the best G3 Lineup ever. They should release a DVD.

I love watching Paul bliss out at Joe;s tone at 1.56 or so. And then John looks over to give a little nod - like, 'Hey, man, Joe Satriani. Phuw.'

these two italians look at each other with such loving eyes... LOL... love them all.
All 3 of these guys are amazing!!!! Thanx for posting....
I love how Petrucci and Gilbert look at Satriani and grin after that last note of his solo at 2:05... Dey like HOLY SHIT THAT WAS TASTY!
I love how Paul has the simplest rig of all three of them and still gets the amazing tones he is getting. Petrucci's setup is big and bulky but sounds great and Satch's setup is kinda big too and sounds great.

That was amazing!
Gilbert's solo is EPIC.
God I feel relaxed, peaceful and lighter...
Thats the first G3 jam where I have seen all 3 try to compliment the previous solo rather than out do it. Awesome!
It's nice to see that you can notice that Satch, Gilbert and Petrucci are amazed by eachothers improvising. Look at their faces!
Absolutely amazing!! Thanks for the upload!
Gilberts opening solo is incredible!
Now THAT is a jam!!! I always feel soooo good when I watch these guys jam!! :):):):)
Three amongst the most humble musicians today ... they're guitar gods but they are just so down to earth! I wouldn't pick a guitar 100 ft near any of these guys, but it would be fun to have a beer with them ... just sit back and let them talk about what drives them on ... :)
