Hi Mark great review as always 👏 that's a great bike, really raises it's head when you give it the reins...🎉. Nice to see an older bike review, as we don't always have the funds for new stuff all the time 😂.... We are a lucky breed to have such expensive toys ❤ x
Well made review. Thank you! Yes, this is a super bike! Never forget my first testride! It's the closest experience to flying without leaving the ground.
@@markpulling12 And now I've bought one! The dealer had a brand new 2020 model with all the bells and whistles. A nice price and I was the happy owner!
Another quality review Mark. I'm always in two minds about KTMs - I've heard too many stories about reliability issues, particularly with the electronics package. I always think the finish looks a bit cheap. However, all the reviewers seem to really rate the riding experience. I'm looking for a second bike this year and was going to check out the Hornet and GSX8S but a secondhand hand one of these could be a better option.
Yes the riding experience is great...I think the odd recall and gremlin can show up on some bikes when they are new ...but generally the are good bikes ..that engine is amazing... Best wishes mark
Reliability problems are very true .bought brand new 890 duke r .after 842 miles quicksilver problem .also gearbox like a tractor .sold it got brand new mt09 .much much better bike and finish . Cant beat jap quality .
@@markpulling12 It certainly appears that KTM is on the same page as Ducati or Aprilia. Closer inspection of these always reveals very mediocre wiring loom and connector quality. The welds are not up to Japanese standard and neither is final quality control. Not the end of the world but what can one expect from manufacturers who produce a relatively small number of motorcycles compared to the giant Jap big 4 group.
Hi Mark Somehow I've missed quite alot of your uploads so nice to catch up again. The ktm790 is a cracking bike. I remember when we both owned the 2019 zx6r krt edition 👍 I have the 2022 touono v4 factory now for just over a year with 7k on the clock 😲 I'm addicted to it 😂❤ I hope life is treating you well
i bought a one owner fsh 2018 790 duke with 20k miles recently from a reputable dealer with a good warranty, absolutely love it, i have had a lot of bikes and this is definitely my favourite, great bike with pillion also, i will be sending my ecu to Junction 33 as the lean fuelling let’s it down a bit, quick shift and electronics are great
7:40 ... being a 2018 it also comes with the full track mode package as standard too. That is now a paid optional extra though for the 2023 bikes. Nice review, you seemed to quite enjoy the 790 🙂 I bought one new in 2019 and love it .. perfect bike for swift, aggressive back lane hooning 😉
@@markpulling12 interesting, it should certainly be there ... sometimes when the bikes get serviced by KTM some functions can get accidentally switched off .. its not unheard of for owners to lose the quickshifter or track mode after a service and have to return to the dealership to get it switched on again. I'll bet thats what happened with the one you rode.
fully agreed Mark, i was actually in the market for a white Hornet but it was pretty much sold out at the local dealers till after this summer. So i found myselves a 2020 ktm 790 Duke, what a bike i tell you so much fun to ride gets a smile on my face everytime. Planning on taking it into the Pyrenees this summer should be fun, so no regrets on passing up the hornet here ;-)
Excellent review this one Mark, thank you. Certainly thrown a spanner in the works for my next bike, just weary with their latest issues on some of their bikes.
I've been looking at BMW750GS and the Transalp recently to replace my 5yo CB500X and never considered a KTM. It wasn't on my radar at all. But oh my god that sounds so lush. Defo on my list now Mark.
While torque measures the turning force produced by a vehicle's engine and the engine's ability to perform work, horsepower measures how fast the engine can perform the work. Therefore, high torque makes an engine accelerate faster from a stop, and high horsepower makes for higher top speed. Hope this helps explain a bit Best wishes mark
Hi Mark. Do you still have your Tracer-9? I decided to PX mine a few days ago for a new Ténéré 700 in Tech Kamo, have always preferred the power delivery/soundtrack of twins! Plus that angry sounding powerful triple was very hard for me to ride steadily on…😬 So the only option for me was swap it, for a 270 degree twin with 45 less horses! Now enjoying taking in the scenery again, and looking over hedgerows on quiet country lanes..👍🏻
@@applecorp totally get that ...I found on the tracer 9 as brilliant as it was there was some kind of resonance sound at 5k airbox or something like that that was annoying cheers mark
Hi Mark matey it's mark from Wirral Merseyside i do love the KTM and i only work over the road from KTM and Harley Davidson motorcycles so I'm really hoping to get KTM before this year is over, because I've been over to Harley Davidson and KTM on and off over the last 12 months and part of this year because i only work over the road from Harley Davidson and KTM. Love your videos….I’m going to sound like a complete newbie….but can you explain torque & bhp in a sensible way?🤣 please?
While torque measures the turning force produced by a vehicle's engine and the engine's ability to perform work, horsepower measures how fast the engine can perform the work. Therefore, high torque makes an engine accelerate faster from a stop, and high horsepower makes for higher top speed.
Hope this helps explain a bit

if i was in the market for something like this it would be the hornet or the gsx8s, look better imo and a choice of colours😉
So there is a 2018 690 duke and a 2018 790 duke too? Is it bc it's the transition year and one is a single and the other is a parallel twin?
The 690 and 790 are completely separate different bikes the ,790 is a twin 690 is a single
