@@tomboyabit 890 and 1290 was my thoughts. Forget the 200! Keep your eyes out for their old superbike the RC8. 1190cc. I nearly got one but went for an Aprilia instead, always regretted it! Crazy looking but so am I 😄
Just saw this vid, AWESOME!!! I have a 790 and love it like you! I can go a lil faster here in Florida though lol Just wanted to say you are a beautiful person inside and out! Safe travels!
The new Honda CB750 Hornet will wipe out a lot of KTM Duke 790 sales. Lots of people complain about the heat from the KTM. The Honda CB650R with 4 smooth cylinders doesn't have the heat problem that the KTM has in Thailand and probably the ultimate big motorbike in SE Asia.
So it’s not just me. In a country like UK it’s no problem. The opposite I’d love heated legs right now. But even in winter in Thailand it was uncomfortably hot in the traffic.
Lets be real, a Honda Click 125/150/160 is the perfect motorbikes for Thailand for everyday use and they seat 3 people comfortably. The Honda Wave is the SUV of Thailand.
My Thai is even worst than their English. Traveling a lot I realised that body language and Google translator can get you anywhere if you’ll meet people kind to help. Kindness is priceless.
Glad you enjoyed the Duke 790 D. Light and balanced enough to push and walk on a quest for fuel. Nice that you had many offers of help also. Hate typing on the "phone" so back at the big "confuser". Stay warm & comfy as it is 5.4F and over two feet of that four letter word (Snow) on the ground here.
I ran own of petrol in UK once. Pushed the bike in the rain on M11 for a mile, than cross Stanstead roundabout.. no help. Look how many people helped me in Thailand? Incredible! And I don’t even understood a word they were saying!
Looking for fuel looked like a major pain in the ass - glad you were in a friendly area! Even riding here in the USA on HD bagger that holds 6 gallons, I've learned to carry an extra gallon in the saddle bag. I realize it wasn't an option for you on the Duke, but it's saved me a couple of times in remote areas of Nevada, Canada and even Florida (after a major hurricane).
I’m in Thailand right now and the driving is very different to that in the UK - except they also drive on the left. Thai drivers are extremely considerate and drive slowly and passively compared to the UK. They do have a somewhat casual attitude to lane control but vary rarely sound their horns and slow down, or even stop completely, at the slightest hint of there being a collision - it’s all quite weird. On some of the islands they drive extremely slowly!
Thailand is the hottest place I've been. And I'm Australian and we have very hot weather. Hope you get to test it on safe European roads. They don't sell the 790 in Australia. And the 890 is not what I'm wanting unfortunately. I've got the 390 Duke. KTM are fantastic.
Definitely a bike for the open road. Regarding being too hot (e.g. in traffic), well that's the problem with hot countries like Thailand. But hold on, the UK was like that last year. The Duke looks like a great bike (100hp+ as standard), although not keen on the modern styling (which could be altered with not too much trouble). You're going to look back and laugh about running out of petrol. So good that people were helpful. Now in the olden days (here we go), there was a reserve stop on the tap. Loving this series, but don't worry Spring isn't too far off back in the UK.
Tomboy_a_bit remember, Live to ride, ride to live! Your vids and passion is all there girl. My late wife Sammy and I enjoy watching whatever you do. And I'm glad to see that you are enjoying Thailand so much as well as riding different bikes. As always enjoyable and safe riding kido 👌😊.
Tomboy_a_bit. As you have shared so much, let me do the same. I started dating Sammy when she was 14.5 years old. There was 2.5 years between us. By time Sam was 17 it hurt so much to be apart we went to court to get a marriage licance in 1974. Both sets of parents thought it would only last 6 months if we was lucky. We argued but we never took and argument to the bedroom. Lots of laughter and dancing in the kitchen when Sam was cooking and our children always whinged at us as they got older. I lost count of the pillow fights filled with laughter even when we both passed 60! And did she love to ride! My back seat feels oh so wrong but no one else will sit on it now. She died on Boxing day 2020 in hospital from covid. I miss her every day and every morning and night I still whinge at her for leaving me so soon when we had plans to do much more riding. Our grandchildren all remember us dancing to songs on the radio and singing to each other while we looked after them. And now come birthdays or Christmas what mates I have left now that's to road traffic deaths or cancer, they all same the same thing. Since 1972 each card ended in Love Sammy & Les. Now they just say Les. They think it's just not right. So to break the ice I say something like... Go on whinge coz I'm left instead of Sammy coz you miss her cooking. Could my Sammy cook or what! Take care Tomboy_a_bit and enjoy life as long as you can 👌. Thanks for sharing so much and as always safe riding 👍😊.

KTM Duke 790 is not a motorbike for Thais or SE Asia. A Japanese bike is much cheaper, better quality, more reliable and parts readily available in SE Asia. A 300cc like a Honda CB300R is well adequate "Big Bike" for SE Asia. Short wheelbase, narrow, light, small tight turning circle so ideal for city driving as well as longer journies. A Honda Rebel 300/500 is a great bike for SE Asian girls that are short having a seat height of only 680mm.
Of course you reach the ground well from the sitting position... Someone once said that you were half Lithuanian, half giraffe!! Of course, that someone has legs shorter than the average duck! :) That 790 fits you well, tomboy!
Nice video. Great bike. Beatiful country and people. A tall lovely girl who can straddle the Duke so easily. And the hottest abs ever. What can I say. You go girl! Ride safe...
Thank you for sharing Deimante! Always an absolute pleasure spending this time with you!🥰
When she gets back to the UK and sees the reality and gets depressed will miss Thailand and want to go back.
True that. You have no idea how freezing cold it was a first couple days. 😅
Such a good in depth review of the KTM duke model line up... two more to go and you complete the set and level up!
Which two Tony? 200 and 1250? How about 890 R?
