Get an estimate from one good company and approach some of the cheaper guys hoping they will undercut. When it doesn't work, sue the original company. With most contractor they are building the extension then getting sub-contractors for electrics, plumbing, gas fitting etc. I don't know how it is in the US, but here in Australia only a qualified electrician can touch the electrics, a qualified plumber to touch any water pipes and a qualified gas fitter to touch gas pipes.
Same here in the UK. Everything costs to be signed off, even if you do most of the works yourself. Tale as old as time- get plans + price breakdown from a good contractor, then see where you can skimp out. Never ends well.

Hired one contractor who was a qualified carpenter, he got the plans done, stripped the old out built all cabinets then got an electrician, plumber to do all the things he isn't qualified for. He also ordered the mirrors, stone benchtops, glass panels for the showers and had the professionals install them.

I agree. I mean, she should be grateful she even has a job in a world that's in as hellish a state as it's in right now. There are so many people without jobs or with jobs that don't even pay well and she's gonna sit there and complain while being paid so much for each episode while some others can't even find work or have jobs that aren't even worth it because they don't pay enough to survive. How can somebody complain when they make way more than they even need to be making in order to survive? It's despicable...

The contractor dodged a bullet by having the guy back out. I'd be extremely leery doing any work for the plaintiff.
A responsible contractor has some one come back to fix things up. Called good customer service.
