  • In this video I explain How to Tell if Your Eisenhower Dollar is Silver or Not. An Eisenhower Dollar Silver Coin has special characteristics and I show you what they are. This Eisenhower silver vs. clad video explains in detail the difference between a silver Eisenhower Dollar and a clad or non-silver Eisenhower Dollar. The Eisenhower Dollars were minted between 1971 and 1978. My Eisenhower dollar collection consists of a clad Eisenhower Dollar or an "Ike" dollar, an uncirculated Eisenhower silver Dollar or a "Blue Ike", and a proof Eisenhower silver dollars or a "Brown Ike". The blue and the brown Ike dollars are made out of silver. The years that Eisenhower dollars were made out of silver are 1971, 1971, 1973, 1974, and 1976. The best way to tell if you Eisenhower Dollar Coin is silver or not is to look at the mintmark. I do not talk about Eisenhower dollar errors, but they can be worth a lot of money. I only talk about common Eisenhower dollars and the silver Eisenhower dollars.

In the video I did forget to mention that there are a few examples of S mint mark Ike dollars which are clad so I suggest looking at the edge of the coin to be 100% certain it is silver 👍🏽🔥🐉

Why did they do this? This is what makes it the most confusing … for example, there’s a 1974-S that’s 40% silver, but also a 1974-S that’s Clad.
Is there any way to tell them apart by looking at the front/back surface instead of the edges?

@@TyTanicCoins The mint still makes silver and clad proof coins that when broken out of their cases, you have to check the edge (or weight it) to know the different. You could probably also ping test them.

As an Englishman, it's interesting to learn about the 'Ike' dollar. To me he was a man of top calibre like Lincoln. I have a genuine badge of the Supreme Headquarters of Allied Powers in Europe made by Drago, Paris. The emblem on the green enamel shield shape badge was designed by Ike and S.H.A.P.E. is still in existence today. For me the badge is priceless. It's a great pity Ike isn't alive today. There would be a simple peaceful solution to the Ukraine crisis. Thanks for the video.

I have two of these 1976 s proof. And i was looking at them the other day and noticed one has a mint mark in a slightly different spot than the other. And they are both pretty much perfect condition.
But one has almost solid silver edge but a hint of copper is showing but not like a Consistent copper ring like a usual clad would.
You think i should send them to be graded?

I've been stacking the Ike dollars lately. A good option for stacking silver dollars for spot or even below spot. Check the edges of the coin, do an ice cube test, do a sound test, and look for the S mintmark. Put one ice cube on top of the ike dollar and one ice cube on top of a copper-nickel quarter. If the coin is silver it will melt the ice faster than the nickel coin because silver is the most thermally conductive metal. Be careful because although all silver Eisenhowers do have the S mintmark, not all Eisenhowers with the S mintmark are silver. If the coin comes in the original envelope then you know for sure that it's silver. Sometimes I keep them in the original envelope sometimes I like to break them out and hold them.

I had a horrible year because I'm a beginner in stacking and I'm talking a lot of noise right now the fact that I don't even have one of those machines which I'm going to invest in but this is my opinion you got to be aware cuz internet scammers are getting smarter and smarter every day.

I do know a lot about Ike (Eisenhower). He was the US commander in chief of troops in Europe during WWII. He was also the 34th president of the US from 1953 to 1961. His administration was known for the admission of Hawaii as the 50th state into the Union, the Eisenhower Doctrine, that the US would provide help to any Middle Eastern country to ward off communism.
