try to put yourself in his place - one thing is that he has to convey and inform about some high-tech things in a way that most people will be able to understand it, at the same time that he might be nervous and probably also very aware of whether he says or do things that can get him punished! however, be happy that the man uses his knowledge after all and tries to make the rest of us safer, instead of trying to point fingers and try to belittle him. it's the (blackhat) hackers we have to worry about!

The best hackers in the world are primarily on team white hat. IDK if you are counting intelligence agencies and the like as malicious but they are generally considered white hat. You can easily make multiple hundreds of thousands of dollars a year in this field totally legally, there is no reason to risk going to jail. You don't really find super talented red hats unless they live in a country with few opportunities or the occasional super talented but young and dumb people screwing around.

Cybersecurity, especially offensive security, is hard to explain, break down, and people are easily after you if you say something inaccurate.
Glad he's on our side and not a threat actor.
People don’t realize how much work goes into learning this stuff too.
@@zaccampa4055 If this type of thing was born from a hobby (which it usually is), it’s very easy to learn quickly and the learning/gaining experience happens without you feeling like you have to study. In my area of IT it’s very common to have co-workers with no formal IT background, other than what they taught themselves. These people are sometimes better than formally educated people, because they have a kind of intuition about stuff that schools can’t really teach you (it just has to click for you, schools can’t force that to happen, only give you some background info when it all does start to click).
From what I can tell there are two types of people working in IT: people who did very well in school and are very bright, then there are the dropouts who weren’t doing well in school but are very creative (musicians, artists, etc). If you are creative you can be successful in this field without much education, being able to think outside the box is very valuable. If you have both kinds in the same place, then everybody gets to learn a lot automatically. You do have to have an actual interest in this thing though, otherwise the amount of information you have to soak up will be overwhelming rather than interesting.
What does hacking has to do with cyber security? I mean the hacker term was already explained way before 1990 in the hacker manifesto. It is not even related because cyber security is a job related topic, same as a pentester , hacker and hacking is a diametrical oposit matter and philosophy. I was born in 1985 and have been in the scene sincei was 10. Social media has just bombarded new generations with idealistic terms without any fundamental approach and people just buy it. It's like those who take cyber security courses to get a certificate think that it will make them a hacker when it just makes you pentester, someone that wants to get a job at a corporation. There are no more hackers in the spot of light, the last one that was revealed as one was Richard Stallman and is no longer alive.
@@DMBoyCloud So if you are the old guard, you also know that hacking also used to be synonymous with programming in general. Any programmer was a hacker and still that term is used for ‘bad’ programming nowadays (hacking it together). In the early days it may not have had much to do with cyber security (since people were ‘freaking’ phones and other hardware instead, internet wasn’t there yet), I think nowadays we would call that reverse-engineering or ‘makers’.
In any case this stuff does have to do with security, it’s just two sides of the same coin. Just like police and locksmiths would probably be adept at breaking in, hardware engineers and programmers also have skills you can deploy to break systems for less good purposes.
I would agree that not every pentester is a hacker, just like you have scriptkiddies on the other side. I’m also curious where you would put social engineering, is that not hacking?
@@Wizz15 Social ingeniering is a skill, same as locksmith and programming, there were several programmers in the beginning but not all of them were hackers because it is a philosophy and not a job title, this applies even today. A hacker is still a person that follows the philosophy that may not be clear for new generations but this is still clear as the term Hacker was given by those who followed the path. As I said nothing wrong with being a pentester but calling a Hacker to all this people with job titles is absurd.

This has been an amazing switch up in content. I'm fascinated by this guy. You can see his intelligence and his confidence in what he's saying but he's doing good with it.
My first IT teacher in HS reminded me of this guy. He started every semester saying he was going to teach you tools that you could expand on to learn very valuable skills that could be used for good or evil. That he hopes any person that learns these types of skills uses them for the better of society like this guy. He’s the type that very easily could’ve taken a dark path with this knowledge and done serious damage to people he just didn’t like. I’d hire this guy in a heartbeat if I was in a position to need this level of security with my personal information and business or whatever. He’s so bright and morally good.

Yup! Everything he said is true. There are other ways to expose vulnerabilities with many other methods. There are some nefarious people who use SDRs (Software Defined Radios) to do criminal acts. One other hacker was able to learn all the computer commands on his car's computer bus (wiring) to control his car, including starting the car without a key to turning on the windshield wipers without even being in the car or touching it. He did it my using a SDR to simulate the computer commands from his car's tire air pressure sensors that reports low air to the car computer. He did it by radio and learning the computer command/language used by the car.

@@ANAS-ty6rn Start by learning what the CAN Bus protocol is, then look for beginner tutorials. Once you have built enough skills and knowledge you can move on to "automotive hacking."

This all sounds super high tech and nefarious, but it's really not. It's like running around a sandbox and being surprised that your footprints are all over the sandbox.
I mean. Kinda. It is a little more involved than that. It is more like running around in a sandbox that have grains of sand that can burrow in you...and if you don't KNOW that, you won't even put on shoes.

As for knowing how all of it works, I have been using computers since I was 3, and building them for myself/others since I was 12...as well as having a basic understanding of programming in general and the limitations, as well as networking.
Despite ALL THAT, and being interested in things such as this (I knew about the flipper long ago) some of what this kid is saying is foing way over my head. I can only gather his intention using context clues at times, or hypothesizing based on other tech I have seen being extrapolated.

Must be a network side hack? Then they text you and since your phone handshakes with whatever network you use (or many others, actually...as they share towers) THEN they gain control of it somehow?
Idfk. It is definitely high tech stuff. Although some of the things he is talking about are definitely NOT if you have ever messed around with computers in earnest. Skimming and capturing techniques are pretty simple to understand, for example.

The thing is, JUST THE TOOL, isn't going to get you anywhere. You need to be able to program the tool to do the things you want it to.
While the flipper comes with a few little features built in, basically, you would have to tweak it to do what he is doing.
Essentially these tools are combination scanner/readers. Rfid/wifi/rf, etc..
I would refer you to someone with better knowledge of each specific device. I only understand the concepts behind them, really. And can infer the rest based on my fairly rudimentary understanding of coding and hacking.
You can probably just google search "hacking tools and how to use them," for a better understanding than I can give you if you are willing to sift through the results to find something that isn't just a bunch of buzzwords.
@@ANAS-ty6rn in theory, most of what he is doing could be done with just a smartphone and an antenna (or really, a few different types of antennae) with the right code written for it. Just not nearly as effectively as a dedicated device.
The code is the key. Not the device. Though, the device boosts the reach of your code. If that makes sense.
I only stated what I did in my prior comment to show that I know more than like 90% of people about computers and am still a bit baffled at how someone could hack your phone with no user input.
Again, it would have to be some sort of intercept/injection between the phone and the tower to slip something past at the handshaking (when your phone pings a tower, and the tower says, "yeah bud, I got you.") to allow for a no-user-input hack such as that.
I would think that you would have to either hack/take over the tower or service, at least temporarily, to be able to make that happen.

"PEN TESTING" stands for "Penetration Testing". A pen tester is a person who is paid by a company to find weak points in their security (email, entrance, security, software, etc).

To be clear, he isn't really hacking anything, he's just having his app search info from known data breaches to see what information of yours has already been hacked and is readily available.
as long as the software uses a new session id for each request then sessions are typically safe to use. Remember folks that yes what he is saying is true but he is leaving out tons of security information that is already in place to help the public. However the rule still applys that if u dont want anyone to see something then dont put it on the web
I think he was trying to be more concise and accessible in what he was saying, so had to leave a lot out to avoid teaching a four day class on cybersec basics.

Do not reuse passwords across platforms and change often. You leave a commonly used password and your email address on a website that goes down that password is then in the wild. If you haven't changed it then boom.
most people are infected with malware and actively have information scraped, you should scan and quarantine any malicious files before changing anything.

The protection is in numbers. Since millions and millions of users info is out there you have a bit of anonymity in the sheer number of breached users info
unless you piss someone off. you can get access to database breaches for $10 a month.
