@@FactFiend Awww that's a damn shame, I enjoy when the videos are longer because I listen to these videos while at work. Would've been nice for this video to actually talk and rant about curses and the history of the hope diamond.
@@FactFiend the longer videos are some of my favorites. Especially the post-video banter. Also, I noticed the Intro theme has been shortened to just one “whack” instead of two 😭
Winston didn't just 'give' the Hope to the Smithsonian. He received massive tax benefits by over-valuing the gift. The fact was, he couldn't find a buyer at the price he needed to make a profit. There is a history of large diamonds being sent in the post. De Beers would often send its diamonds from South Africa to London by Royal Mail. The notion that the Hope is cursed was cultivated by the Cartier Brothers when they owned it, it was a marketing ploy. The fact is, most of the people who had the Hope lived the typical lives of the rich and adventurous types who are likely to dabble in gemstones.
Just so you know the us post system used to be the most reliable business in history. The pony express has even been noted delivering mail to people lost in the wilderness and saving them
I once did some tech work at a gold mine for a few days. They make a bar every few days to once a week and shipped each out to a bank or vault via UPS.
Nah dude, the us postal service is some serious shit, the USA had problems in many aspects, it's postal service is not one of them they are fucking amazing and I'm have nothing but praise for them
I had to go back and forth to make the video sync up. It was a bit annoying, but this sounds so freaking interesting, that I'd have done it for even longer than the few seconds it look me
The moment you started talking about the statue turning, I went directly to the thought that vibrations did it. Why? Because I've had things move like that a number of times in the past...and it's pretty damned obvious, too. I think people go out of their way to come up with magical reasons for things happening. That's something that I don't understand. When I was a teenager, I started what I call Operation Mindfuck. It's pretty simple--just do little things that make people go "what the hell?", like moving things a bit at a time...kind of like with the statue, only deliberately. Well, there's a bit more to it, but that mostly boils down to anything that causes confusion...after all, that forces people to attempt more thinking than they're used to.
I have this crazy theory that all what happen to Todd may be intentional misfortunes that Winston took on him, for increase a legend (and a prize) of a Diamond itself
The Hope Diamond is the most underwhelming tourist trap I’ve seen. It’s really dull looking. But I have no idea what a good version of jewel looks like haha.
This episode is a bit lacking, Karl used to do full informative videos this video feels half full. Is Karl working on a project in the background or something that's taking his attention away? Im not slagging Karl off his research skills are great and can present things very well just used to his older videos. Much love Karl hope you don't take this wrong way
That's a very bland mug Karl, we crave interesting mugs Karl, we must cancel Karl, we are entitled to interesting mugs. #blandsmallwood Jk 'canceling' is just fucking stupid.
I always laugh at american "cursed" buildings. "Ah, someone died in here one time and now it's cursed" Meanwhile most buildings in europe are many generations old and have had people die in them.
Why are these only getting shorter?

There’s always the second behind the facts channel for longer videos i guess
@@FactFiend Aaaw that means less Karl. But hey, can't argue with math.
“He spends most of his time being dead now, but when he wasn’t as dead, he was a jeweller”
That’s a fine fine sentence right there.
"He spends most of his time being dead now"
This killed me
The press: “Todd, how’s living with a curse that ruined your life within a year?”
Todd, probably: “what can I say? It’s well with my soul ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ “

I remember reading about this in either Horrible Histories or Horrible Science
If I may draw your attention to
“He spends most on his time being dead now”
Is he a vampire or something
Yes, he is also dressed in yellow colours and is 100 years old...

Maybe he’s vampire
He's so minted that the eternal vacation is something he takes vacations from by coming back to life.
@@Aeternus75 does he also talk about people approaching him?
That postman lived a very country-song life that year!
It could be worse, he might not have had a very lucrative insurance policy on everyone of those things he lost.

"When he wasn't as dead" Ah, mostly dead. Not all dead.

Tbf the US has rather strict laws regarding messing with the mail including a separate mail-dedicated police force
Harry had no fucks to give upon sending.
Any good postman wears gloves of unbinding to avoid random cursed items
I misread this as "Sends to the moon"
Another very entertaining video,as always. Keep it up guys!
It could be worse -words of wisdom
Please bring back the end-of-video rambling! It was always some of the best content
todd is a chad tbh
It's the nutshack
One of my relatives owned the Hope Diamond, she let her poodle wear it on it's birthday.
I could understand people thinking the statue is haunted, considering it looked like it turned to face the camera.
The diamond even cursed this video to have low views

This guy had stones
You forget to mention the fact that he touched the diamond and then die.
P.S. sorry for my bad English, I'm not a native speaker
I have a hard time trusting the post office with a 300 dollar RC car..
He refused to be photographed during his life. Now we finally get to see a picture of him.
“My life could be worse” yeah, he could’ve been poor when all that happened to him.
I always say it could be worse the. It gets worse😂😂
Hey Karl, hope you're feeling better
I misread and thought the title said Harry Weinstein
Todd just got a free trial for 2020

👍.
Despite its value I’d never want to own it it’s cursed. The curse scared him maybe.
