He might even still have feelings for Pauline (I am of the belief that if you can stay friends with a SO after a serious relationship then you are either still in love or never were) and simply chooses the relationship with Peach *because* she is routinely kidnapped by Bowser, rather than the kidnappings being as a result of her relationship with Mario

His real name however, is Mark (Mr. Satan merely being a stage name). So my head canon though is that his full name is actually Mark Hercule Satan.

Pauline was always mayor of New Donk City, the original DK kidnapped her on a regular basis to protest against the rapid industrialisation of the area, bulldozing his native natural environment. After rescuing her a few times, a benevolent Pauline had the DK family moved to their own private island in order to ensure the uninterrupted progress of the city's rapid expansion. This is why the first DKC game has DK going after K Rool for, again, the industrialisation of the island. Mario and Luigi were raised in New Donk City (after some Yoshi Island shenanigans), which some people later in life confused with New York City due to numerous similarities. Apparently the men of the family are drawn to women in positions of power, as Mario and Luigi would both grow up to chase after princesses Peach and Daisy respectively. Or perhaps they are just drawn to damsels in distress?

Fun Fact: Peach is Mario's THIRD girlfriend.... Pauline, the Daisy, then Peach is the order.
I always thought Daisy is Mario's 3rd girlfriend since he first met her in Super Mario Land. I'd say Pauline is Mario's first girlfriend, Peach is 2nd and then Daisy, then Mario goes back to Peach.
I always thought that Daisy was never Mario's girlfriend and Mario saved Daisy because he's a good person.
@@kingofhedgy9421 Mario Land hint there's some romance going on between them. When Mario saved her, a heart comes out between them implying the romance going on between them. Mario also called out romantically towards her when she's saved. And even the Super Mario Land commercial mention it ended in a love story note. It seems what's going on is more than just friends.
Also she named the city New Donk City (a parallel to New York City) which is a notoriously hard city to be mayor of.
Also she named it after her previous captor (Donkey Kong). What a badass.
The Donkey Kong of the original game is Cranky Kong in present day, and new DK is his grandson. The original Mario (Jump man) and Pauline are the Mario brothers' parents. There is a possibility that the new Pauline has been long time friends with the present DK and Mario (Miniland spinoffs) and that she may be a relative of the Mario brothers due to her being a brunette (original Pauline was a ginger or possibly blonde).

Pauline isn't Mario's ex, she's his mum. Jumpman is Mario's dad. Pauline was always mayor of New Donk City, the original DK kidnapped her on a regular basis to protest against the rapid industrialisation of the area, bulldozing his native natural environment. After rescuing her a few times, a benevolent Pauline had the DK family moved to their own private island in order to ensure the uninterrupted progress of the city's rapid expansion. This is why the first DKC game has DK going after K Rool for, again, the industrialisation of the island. Mario and Luigi were raised in New Donk City (after some Yoshi Island shenanigans), which some people later in life confused with New York City due to numerous similarities. Apparently the men of the family are drawn to women in positions of power, as Mario and Luigi would both grow up to chase after princesses Peach and Daisy respectively. Or perhaps they are just drawn to damsels in distress?
