- Re-live the journey to the 39.08s record run; as if you were there in person at the key emotional moments, soaking in the atmosphere (and champagne). This video covers the Thursday shakedown through to record breaking Sunday Shootout.
New footage from the crowd, onboard, the pits and trackside.
Hear from Max Chilton, Alex Summers, Thomas Yates and Sir David McMurtry.
Feel the nerves building as we got faster and faster with each run: 49.61s to 45.06 to 41.29 to 40.06 to 39.14 and finally 39.08!
What will it take to go faster?

I was there in person for the record breaking run, trackside toward the top of Molecomb straight just before Flint Wall ... the atmosphere was incredible, everybody waiting in anticipation for the grand spectacle of the day ... Max and the McMurtry didn't disappoint, eliciting large gasps of awe from the crowd during the outstanding run - by far the fastest vehicle up the hill that day - and we all erupted in huge cheers as the resulting record breaking time was revealed. My first time at Goodwood and a day I'll never forget. Thank you and congratulations!!!
That car has 4,400 lbs of downforce at a standing start and nearly 5,000 lbs at 150 mph. It literally sucks itself to the ground. I'd love to see it at Laguna Seca.
Whilst awesome on corners, not exactly what you want at speed though is it? Wonder if they can use a system to control how it functions on straights to turn it down?
@@buggerlugz6753 FYI, Hagerty goes over this. Because the fan is electric, it can instantaneously adjust both fans for maximum grip potential. So that is a very big YES. The fan system is making micro adjustments at every millisecond, which allows for the car to have an uninterrupted 4,400lbs of downforce no matter what the car is doing, even standing still or full speed in a corner. The tires and the driver are the only failing point.
I can’t stop watching videos about this car.
We need to see a serie about this car around real tracks , chasing the fastest lap she can deliver .
most "real track " as you said always capped your creativity you can't do thing you wanted
i hate f1 races
Has it got enough charge to do a lap of the Nürburgring?
@@buggerlugz6753 Yup, has 300 miles. Can do 10+ laps at sebring too.
BUT, will the fan work on the green hell?
GP-Strecke? Yes. Nordschleife? Probably not.
The issue is that Nordschleife has a very uneven course, which might not work for the fan. Nordschleife is more of a road course than a race course. Production cars are best suited at Nordschleife, while racecars are more suited for GP-Strecke.
This needs to tour around the world and smashing every track circuit record there ever is/was. Sir David, you have my respect from across the pond!
Unfortunately, fan cars do not work on some racecourses. Maybe The McMurtry team can calibrate it and make it work? But it's been over a year and they still haven't raced on anything but goodwood.
One of the most astonishing motor sport spectacles I’ve ever seen. Brilliant team and brilliant driver. Wish I’d been there.
I was super lucky to be there and witness history in the making. Thank you McMurtry.
Would love a raw video of the helmet cam, no fancy edits.
how about some raw in car footage of the run?
You can tell how unbelievably proud the McMurtry team is, and they should be
Congrats guys. I get chills every time I watch the run.
Pure British genius engineering and driving 😎
just imagine this car breaking fastest laps on different races daym
This car is going to embarrass every racecar in existence once they get it on a racecourse.
small team but big impact
Never had so much fun watching a race! ...... This car is absolutely brilliant!
FANtastic bit of kit 👌
Awesome run! i hope the hole team enjoyed it beacause i sure did!
Breath-taking.
What a peice of automotive engineering art. The Enterprise from Star Trek in a world populated mostly by aircraft carriers.
Can't wait to see it performing on Pikes Peak 🤓
This beauty could probably climb up a wall!!
not "could probably", IT CAN. It could even do a burnout upside down.
Love to this at the Nurburgring
This is ridiculous, just amazing.
Congratulations!
McMurtry World Tour 2023 - no track record is safe! Get BBC to document… now that’s a series I’d watch twice!
Wasn't the lap record broken again this year?? Was blessed to see this Wizz around Goodwood last year. 💪🏼💪🏼💪🏼🏁🏁🏁🏁
Truly a stunning car and achievement. Well done, Brits.
I would LOVE to see this car do several laps at LeMans....that would be SICK....
Good job, amazing car, a genuine feat of engineering... One should point out, that driving like a robot is not faster than driving within the moment of intuition...
As Ayrton Senna would agree... Love, Light a kharmic oneness be with you... 🕊 🌟✨
♾️ne 🙏
I absolutely love how small this car is.
Excelent
Insanity Perfected
Seeing two compete against each other would be interesting and a step toward (if worth it) a type series. Given downforce is almost completely independent of speed, could potentially be manipulated for more competitive racing.
👏
👍🎉🎈🎊🔋🏆🍾 Congratulations 👏👏👏👏👏👏😁
Is there an in car, just pure sound video?
BEVs FTW!
Wish my Mii electric was as fast… :-)
🤯
Surreal speed, incredible driver !???
they need to make an RC version, fan and all
This guy is doing all this in a Patek Philipe. Awsome.
That's just marketing dollars. It would be a mistake to read more into it than, Patek Philipe decided to pay more for product placement than other firms wanted to.
L O V E I T !!!!!!!!!!!
FIRST... @ Goodwood!!!
Pikes peak next??
The true definition of “Hot Wheels”!!!
I was there in 99 when Heidfield set the record. Now for safety F1 cars aren’t allowed but electric cars can.
“I fluffed a few corners” says the guy who just did the fastest run of all time 😂
I want one
Need to see in Nurburgring and brake the world record
A Barchetta version next?
An absolute monster and tiny at the same time something only the Brits would do fantastic!!!!
Origin story of FZero and 3d tracks
Uh, guys? Mr. Wayne is on the phone--would like to have a word.
Ricardo es de los mios que no se sienten comodos cuando maneja otro. Se le nota 😅
I want to see it drive upside down in a tunnel!!
How about Pikes Peak???
What sort of car had the record before?
Formula 1 car
Let's not discount that a car this small will have considerably less frontal area. There are no race car series that allow such a small and narrow car, where it's closer to a karts than normal cars. Just not sure where this can go from here, since it wouldn't be applicable to any race series or production relevance.
There are far more reasons this car cannot compete in any race series besides it's design proportions. It's a car that needs it's own race series, and that day may be coming soon.
awwwwwwsoooooooomeeeee
Can it beat the ID.R at pikes peak??
On paper, yes. We will have to see when they attend.
Faster vacuum cleaner ever .....sorry iRobot Roomba
A Batmobile better than the fictional versions...
Why not to create a "Firmula McMurtry"?
Why is it only RWD??
This is the bottom of their curve , they’ll get lighter and faster , you’ll need a g suit
Use a Jet Engine as a range extender and downforce generator
Too much weight, and jet engines need a lot of jet fuel.
Cartoonishly quick.
I wonder ... how many lateral G's can a racing driver take? There'd be no blackouts or red outs (maybe a personality change mid-corner due to on of the brain's hemispheres having a blackout and the other having a red out? 😂😂) Who knows?
Because, if this tech gets incorporated in a sport like F1 or FE, cars might just become a lot more demanding to drive!
Drivers will have necks like bodybuilders. :)
@@doctormixup5388 : I know but that does nothing for g-loc. The gel-like brain will just squish against the side of the skull while the heart will have trouble pumping blood where it needs to go.
6G at least, look at the "Pouhon" corner in Spa Francorchamps with F1 cars.
Besides, depends on the gear and clothing, pilots of fighter jets experience higher g forces.
@@realityandnaturepill : Good point! Maybe we'll see drivers with G-suits in the future if fan cars are allowed by FIA.
edit : Nope, I take that back. G-suits wouldn't work for drivers who are using their legs to accelerate and brake.
So 9G is off the charts. You're probably right in saying 6G for short bursts is the max.
@@theGoogol
Support the body including neck and head (only lateral movement possible) and race using only hands and fingers.
With these electric cars and some hybrid cars you don't have to shift gears so the racing driver can focus on acceleration and braking.
F1 drivers are subjected to >4G's probably every single lap of every single race and up to almost 6G's in some corners which take more than a second.
Actually even in some rollercoasters you experience 5 or 6 G's.
One last reality is that fan cars wouldn't actually be significantly faster in highspeed corners where drivers experience the most lateral G's, the downforce from the fan is a whopping 2000 kg but is constant, that is why they added a small rearwing because from 150mph a usual racecar actually has more downforce than this fan car.
Most of the difference in speed comes from slower corners and acceleration.
You need a different production company for the videos. You don't need a soundtrack for a hillclimb like this. It's a real waste of time for car fans who want to hear the car as it does the climb and find out it's just a music video. 7 minutes of my life I'll never get back, just because I wanted to see, hear and experience what your project was like. I'm sure it is an incredible car but I guess the rest of us won't be able to enjoy a vicarious thrill from your accomplishment.
Exactly. Switching clips every microsecond also doesn’t help at all.
In the future to break these kinds of records they will have to go driverless.
Lame speed increase at 3:53 (easy to see on the helicopter) why? Tha car is superfast without that...
Does the editor of this video have ADHD?
Allo ellon tesla is a car with a tv screen on wheels this is a car
TBF, the plaid is insanely good.
I'm all about it....
