X5 actually lets you get both the Ultimate Armor and Black Zero without a code. They're hidden in the stage where X versus Zero happens, and if you die and quit out to swap characters then you can get both.
@@WesDoesGames There's also a whole parts system in X5 that you probably don't engage with unless you play the game completely wrong: if you wait until the final 8 hours before you start killing bosses, they'll each drop one of two different parts depending on whether you pick a life upgrade or a weapon energy upgrade after the stage. But you don't actually get the upgrades until after the next stage you play, and the part until the stage after that. It's horrendously complicated.
@@couchalmark675 I still think Extreme 2 handled the part system the best. No obscure requirements to get certain parts, no having to scour levels, just a currency system and buyable parts that unlock as you get further.

It's similar to X1 and such, where you freeze Flame Mammoth's stage, crash the airship into Spark Mandrill's stage, etc.. I BELIEVE (I could be wrong on this one) you can also RE-ENTER the affecting stage to take the effect OFF OF a stage, as well (again, grain of salt, I may be misremembering).
I wish Megaman X just continued to show its world in the beautiful sprite work the series was famous for. The anime cut scenes and voice overs were completely unnecessary and likely cost quite a bit of cash that could have been used elsewhere for the project. Megaman has always done its best when it shows the major character moments through the gameplay and within the game engine. Like the feeling of powerlessness the first time Megaman fight's Venom, the death of Zero after the second Venom fight, or the feelings of lost when discovering another message from Light about how he wanted to make sure Megaman X was ready but will not be there to see it. Even other Megaman titles such as in Megaman 7's ending when Megaman stops a moment to seriously consider killing Willy outright. I still love Megaman X3's opening for the bait and switch moment and the working to set the scene so hard with the sprite work and music.
Man, Venom was my favorite Megaman character. Joking aside (I know it's an autocorrect issue), it's just a product of its time. At best people would see sprites as an old style game, at worst it would be ignored because 3D was the new hotness. I still remember seeing pictures of a magazine of the time where an article writer wrote about how bad looking and outdated Symphony of the Night was compared to CV64. That said, gotta appreciate Capcom at least trying to up the presentation. I certainly wouldn't call the anime or VO work 'completely unnecessary'. Even without them I couldn't think much on how the extra money could be used in a way that wouldn't fundamentally change or delay the game.
This is gonna sound absolutely insane but I still put X6 over X5 personally. While X6 fundamentally sucks, the ways you can break the game in half is honestly kinda fun. Like, the game is already unfair, so cheating back against it with silly stuff like becoming invincible with Ensuizan if done on a breakable platform (which Sigma's second form just happens to have), or Zero's Guard Shell somehow doubling his hitcount per swing, allowing you to one shot Sigma's second form. Zero overall is kinda bonkers in that game. Don't get me wrong, X6 is suffering to play through, but at least it's not a snoozefest compared to X5. While X5 has some good moments (X vs Zero is almost the pinnacle of the series), it's lows and highs are relatively tame compared to earlier or future outings. I usually only play X5 in Xtreme mode just to get more out of playing it. If I want to replay any of the PS1 era games, X4 is like my go to. with X6 a close second.

@Joseph928100 X's Neutral Armor is actually one of my favorite armor designs. Generally speaking I'm fine with the redesigns of X8. As far as the Ride chaser stages go, I think Yeti's is good, if a bit too long. Gigavolt's is awful, though.
I don’t mind the general art design of X8, but I agree that the Neutral Armor looks horrible. I usually use normal X for that reason. It looks a bit better in purple for the Ultimate Armor version. I noticed that X8 was particularly difficult. It’s one of the hardest in the series but not in a broken way like X6. I respected the challenge: at a time when gaming in general was becoming easier, Capcom decided to double down on difficulty.

I think this was the first time the series knew what it wanted to be since 5, and it was awesome to see all the in 3D in a game that was not like playing through molasses. I’ve played and finished this game more times than any other MMX game and I desperately wish they would continue the story they were setting up with the ending, with whatever terrible fate was to befall Axel, and the implication that perhaps the Hunters were not quite as benevolent as we had been led to believe (which had been hinted at for quite some time by this point.) God... maybe I truly miss the series haha My ranking would be from worst to best:X7, X8, command mission, X2, X, X6, X4, X3, X5. I didn't have the chance to play X4 when it launched so playing as Zero wasn't a truly big deal for me when I actually played it. The only game I really didn't like in the series was X7. But bro, I think people often sleep on X6's soundtrack. I think you picked some weirds choices when talking about the X6's soundtracks but Gate's theme is a banger indeed. There's the all beloved Blaze heatnix song, Infinity Mijinion, 2nd Sigma, intro stage, rainy turtloid to name a few. And in X8 you didn't mention the elevator ost that is also a banger. I think that's all my takes on this video. Great job overal. I always love seeing people talking about the series
Bombastic to me that X games werent meeting Capcoms expectations, slacked on the production post X4, then to create Legends which was their route into 3D but then later scrap Legends -_____- . Like really Capcom? Shouldve taken notes from Nintendo and trusted your franchises and continue quality treatment
nope that because og dr light in those games decided to focus on internet related stuff in the battle network/starforce universe unlike in the timeline of og megaman thru legends
the only game i give a lot of flack is X5, despite that i still like it i'm a lot more critical with it than the others because it was intended to be the last game in the series
The drop in quality was noticeable for X5 and 6, even as I played them both multiple times over. It's OK to recognize that things were bad (or just not as good as what came before them) even if we still like them. Never played X7 because it looked dumb
Only thing I can think of, as to why Reploids need boobs, other than horniness at Capcom, is that humanity still exists during these timelines and humans designed male and female looking Reploids? And adding boobs helps to accentuate the femininity? 🤷♂️ I'm really grabbing at straws, but that's my working theory lol
I feel like the X series at least is so vague by X6 as to what extent humanity's even still around. Are boobs still around? Or are they a boob memory of a half forgotten boob dream?
@WesDoesGames I don't disagree with that, I know that by the end of the ZX series humanity is like 90% - 95% exterminated and *SPOILER* by Legends 2, the last human has died and humans became a hybrid of mechanical and biological species
@ A year ago ? I guess the game experience really depends on what you do. Or maybe you where a new player ? I’ve always thought feh poorly catches up new players. Did you only play early story mode ? Because one of the jokes for other modes (like Aether raids or arena) a year ago (and before that) was that red doesn’t beat green all the time anymore. I actually stopped playing earlier this year because each skill was becoming too complex (many walls of texts and too many stat to calculate). I’m also talking as a f2p player so I also did not always have the new shiny units every time. From a whale’s perspective, it must be much easier. But with all the positioning mechanics, the movement assists and the thousands of skill, the game is complex if you ask me
23:20 Wrong! Unless it was meant to be english voiced in english environment japanese game like MGS, RE, DMC; then it is really better to use japanese voice with english subtitle. Especially in the 90's where the quality of english dub was far worse than japanese.
Awesome compilation Love the adult swim caption callbacks Agree with all your rankings as well. Avoided mmx dive. Even more so glad i did after seeing your review. Also 2:00:35 dont threaten me with a good time
X5 is garbage. It literally prevents the player from 100% it (getting every part/armor/hearts with both characters). This affects replayability in a way that not even X6 did. X5 is the type of game where you finish it once and stay away from it. It has no incentives for NG+ unlike X6
The fall of mega man x was everything after mega man x. They set the bar too high with a random spinoff masterpiece. It's a series that gets marginally worse almost exactly in chronological order. Mega man x is peak mega man to this day.
UNSUNSCRIBED! Just kidding, that prank won’t be funny… yet. I loved this retrospective. Watched it at least four times. I think I subbed on patreon too.
@@franciscoalmeida9019 Ok. X5 has better stage design and better layouts. In particular, the game is balanced so that it can be beaten with regular X without the need of janky exploits. The bosses are better across the board. I know some people dislike the RNG in X5 with the destroying the colony business, but it doesn’t really bother me at all. I’ll concede that X6 has a rocking soundtrack that could understandably be preferred over X5’s. I do like some bits of X6, but I feel X5 trumps it on every relevant metric besides music.
I mean...is kind of hard to argue with your Tier list. X1 and X4 reign supreme and X5 storywise is fantastic and I don't mind much of the issues that it has....X6 is ok....I rather replay X6 than X 2 and 3 that's for sure and X7 can rot in hell. X8 is neat...but have only played it Twice...so.....yeah.

nope that because og dr light in those games decided to focus on internet related stuff in the battle network/starforce universe unlike in the timeline of og megaman thru legends
@spiritpyros ahh i mean battle network and starforce is in their own same universe.
A title cute so deep but never been truer
It blows my mind that the last X game was 20 years ago
Wow people just love capping on X-5 through X-7 witch i honestly haven't had any problems with.
the only game i give a lot of flack is X5, despite that i still like it i'm a lot more critical with it than the others because it was intended to be the last game in the series
When was the last time you played FE Heroes to call it watered down ? If anything, it’s quickly become one of the most complex games 😭
About a year ago. It was Tic-tac-to...And I'm saying this as a huge FE fan. Has it gotten better since then?
If you can’t speak Japanese, how can you possibly tell if the Japanese dialogue is better than the English? You can’t. You can only guess.
Awesome compilation
Love the adult swim caption callbacks
Agree with all your rankings as well.
Avoided mmx dive. Even more so glad i did after seeing your review.
Also
2:00:35 dont threaten me with a good time
Glad you liked it!
I loved X5, anything after that just no, maybe except for X8 demake.
I'm excited to play X8 demake and some of the other fan made games next. Any suggestions?
You the man, Yousef
X5 is great. I have no idea what people are thinking when they hate on it. I guess Squid Adler’s bike section is unfair.
A few janky things aside, it's a fun game
It's worse than X6 and I can convince you if you're willing to argue
I've got really mixed feelings about X2 and X3. I loved them as a kid but playing them now, they just don't quite nail it like I remembered
