Haven't had a chance to watch the full video yet but personal favorite is X5. It was my first one followed by X4 then X6 and then i played X1-X3. I enjoyed 4-6 the most because Zero. I've played Zero near exclusively after growing up on the OG Megaman and no longer being interested in his style of play, preferring the more aggressive style of Zero.
My video store had 1 copy and it was ALWAYS gone, and I went like every day and would ask them to check the return bin in case they hadn't reshelved it yet so, either my small town had so many kids that obsessively needed to play as Zero (not likely considering nobody at my school even knew about MegaMan) or somebody kept the copy and paid the fee for a lost/broken game because the game was already so rare and expensive back then
If you think about it, the military already reduces humans to a rank within a hierarchy of command as much as possible so a robotic mentality would totally be to simply design a program to run in a body named "Colonel" and "General" - since the lower the rank the more the more exists, they'd probably just use a Sergeant A1, Sergeant B2, etc. type system.
Some of the best touches of X4 include how X and Zero have wildly different intro stage music. Each song captures the characters really well. X’s song sounds very sad and conflicted, like how he feels about defeating mavericks. But still, it has a part that sounds heroic or determined, like how X will do what he must. Zero’s theme is just pure raw energy and badassery. Just sounds like a hero who just gets shot done. That’s totally Zero. I also like how some bosses have the Repliforce logo, and some have Sogma’s logo, on their life bars. It’s a nice touch that helps you see their loyalty and motivation. Dragoon being literally Akuma is also amazing
The different logos are definitely a great touch I never noticed the first time I played. I love the different opening songs too, I think X4 just about had the best ost
@@WesDoesGames Keiji Inafune left Capcom in late 2010, so there wasn't anyone willing to make a new Mega Man at the time. The reason MM 11 was made is because it took a very long time for anyone to say, I would like to make the next MM. However the producer of 11 left Capcom as well.
I'm pretty sure this is common knowledge by now, but X5 was meant to be the finale to the Mega Man X series. This is why Zero dies at the end of the game. He wasn't supposed to be resurrected, until Mega Man Zero, which takes place hundreds of years later. However, X6 would be made without Kenji Inafune's knowledge, causing retcons and plot holes. I know many people would prefer to have the series end at X5, but personally, I'm kind of glad they continued after that, because as bad as they are, X6 and X7 are interesting pieces of Mega Man's history. And without them, there would have been no X8, which was a return to form for the series, and some fans, including myself are still clamoring for an X9 to this day.
This is pretty much my take of X8 as well. I don't think it was an amazing game, but it was miles better than 6 and 7, and it gave me hope that the series would get back on the right track (if 9 ever happened)
I always preferred X series that the Zero series. Cause one, I love X more than Zero, it ain't MegaMan without the titular character, and zeros look in the X series was better.
@@chrisbryan633 Level design being a mixed bag with really bad design and mechanics. Story is a mess, randomized difficulty spike, and in the case of X, if you didn't get an upgrade to get passed the first set of spikes at Gate, you already failed the stage. And one of those options are gone forever if you didn't save the reploid. Final boss wasn't amazing either
The more I think about it, the more funny I find the irony in what started the X series. Dr. Light locks X away for 100 years because he was worried about him going berserk, only for Dr. Cain to find X 100 years later, try to make his own robots based on X (Reploids) and causes the very thing Dr. Light was trying to prevent. Again, the irony.
The entirety of the X series came from a series of poor decisions. Dr. Cain, an archaeologist (not a robotics expert) found X, immediately tried to replicate him, ignored the parts he couldn't understand (I'm sure missing some parts near the moral circuits won't turn them into psychopathic murderers, nosire), skipped the 30-something years test phase, gave them nuclear weapons, went crazy manufacturing them and set them upon the world. And when they predictably went berserk, instead of falling back to good ol' manual weapons that won't go berserk, naturally, NATURALLY, he made another, stronger one to fight them. And that's saying nothing of Colonel - a so-called ultimate reploid that supposedly possessed a loving heart like X, only he couldn't handle it so the NATURAL action is to remove his compassion (i. e. Iris), and SEND HIM RIGHT BACK TO THE FRONTLINE AS A HIGH-RANKED OFFICER. That they went through the entire planning, approval and production and did not find a single problem with it is ridiculous.
Fun fact about Maverick Hunter X, X and Sigma’s voice actors are the same for Domon Kasshu and Master Asia in G Gundam, the halfway point cutscene with X and Zero fighting Sigma even pays homage to Domon’s shining finger attack with X hand glowing green
Small correction on one thing you said in the video, Keiji Inafune did not create Mega Man, it was actually designed by a man named Akira Kitamura, but since he didn't stick around after the first game, Keiji Inafune pretty much took the mantle after that, and created iconic characters like Zero. Also, fun fact, Mega Man 6 and Mega Man X were released quite nearly within a month of each other.
K. Inafune is heavily overrated.. respect to him for all his work inside Capcom., but it was his TEAM that made the things works, when he went sailing alone into other seas it really shows...

X5 had some of the biggest nostalgia moments and brought up a lot of questions. I remember getting to the Zero Space levels and when landing thinking that it looked like Quick Man's level, all it needs is the instant death lasers and then there they were. The questions that came from it, knowing that Wily had to somehow be involved but in what way? Hitting the boss room, seeing the blurred Wily logo, hearing the Megaman 1 Wily boss music then seeing those familiar cubes come in from the side. I remember the cold shiver I got at the realization that it meant Wily was still around somehow and was orchestrating all of this. Getting to the final Sigma form 2 boss and the revelations he drops of meeting a partner who hates X as much as him, who helped build him this new body that resembles Gamma from Megaman 3. I thought this was going to lead to Wily revealing himself as the main antagonist for future X games... But no, no... Just disappointment. No follow up aside from Isoc being implied to be Wily, nothing quite on the nose as X5. The story potential was huge, if only they went hard into it.
I kinda like the vagueness honestly. Its lead to more lore and us talking about what it could all mean years later. And I think if they went full on Wily coming back it'd have "somehow Palpatine-I mean Wily- returned" energy
@@WesDoesGames To be fair, Dr. Light was already a hologram and with how hamfisted they brought up Wily in X5 it was obvious. The question changed from "Is Wily involved?" To "Just how involved is he?"

You may be the first person I've ever heard say X2 was harder than X3 but it has been years since I've played either. X1-3 are my absolute favorites. My biggest gripe with X3 was the focus on vertical climbing. I think this was done to give you a reason to use the vertical air dash which I never did since its animation took forever lol. Now I'm going to go watch your Vesperia video and see how bad I want to fight you afterwards.

Solid video! Gotta say X4 is my favorite! I remember renting it at blockbuster and telling my dad I love this game! Loved it so much, we went out that same day to toys R Us and bought it!
X2 was the first I played in the X series so it holds a special place, but my favourite has to be X4 since it was the first that made Zero fully playable and the jump from SNES to PS upped the quality
Loved that detail, I remember trying it out as a kid and being stoked that it worked but also confused because how can the final stage be two separate places at once?
I just started the video but this is great, I'm doing Megaman x legacy right now. I played the first 3 all the time as a kid, i know the first one by heart. It's one of the greatest game ever!
X3 may have “cooler” maverick designs, but it suffers because of how many bosses there are. This is because so many of the bosses only move left and right with little variation in their attackeds. To compensate for their simplistic attack patterns, they do absurd damage to non-upgraded X. Also almost all the mavericks Half Spark mandrel syndrome.
X3 was so special to me. I got it on my birthday. It was fantastic with amazing features and great music. Later versions change the music which was not as good.
Okay... you got me, you got me with the Wimp Low "trained him wrong as a joke" he thinks winning is losing. I feel like you're my long lost twin, what even the heck is going on here. Probably the best youtube recommendation those suits have ever done.
Maybe not completely. Capcom posted a tweet that mentioned "Master Eguchi and the rest of the developers" hope you'll buy legacy collection. Now to be fair, Eguchi did not work on legacy collection, he was known for Battle Network. But it was his idea to bring the Mega Man content to the failed Exoprimal game and even there, he mentioned that Capcom had approached him and the "Mega Man Team" for this collaboration. There are more and more signs that Eguchi who is not Inafune, but is a massive fan of Mega Man and more than likely has the keys to the franchise right now are working on something. That could be MM12, it could be X9 or it could be something incredibly different. Capcom polls showed that fans want Mega Man and the team knows it, so we will be getting something new from them, perhaps even several different projects. I'm not willing to give up hope just yet - signs of a new game in the franchise are starting to appear.
Considering the X legacy collection came out before the BN legacy collection, I think they were just testing the waters for the latter. The Battle Network collection did well so maybe Legends collection is next?
I am 41 years old. My first experience with Megaman was when I was a kid in the hospital and another kid had an NES with Mega Man 2 hooked to the hospital TV. I didn't get to play. My first experience playing a Mega Man game was MEGA MAN X on SNES. I played through the game and had a good time. I didn't touch another Mega Man game till The Mega Man Legacy collection went on steam sale 2 years ago. I bought Mega Man Legacy, Mega Man X legacy and Mega Man ZX legacy. I played through the games sequentially from 1 to 11 and then X1 to X8. HONESTLY, Mega Man 3 and Mega Man X3 may be my least favorites. Everyone else hates on X7, but despite anxiety playing the overly long boss battles, I was able to get enough tips online to make my first playthrough doable - and then I played through it seven more times to unlock everything. The only other Mega Man game I played through multiple times was X8. I mastered the game and played through it over 12 times to unlock every single thing. The prices are set ridiculously high. My LEAST favorite X game is probably X6 because playing through it is a chore. The game is poorly balanced and unfinished. X3 was boring to me but X6 is PAINFUL. I run it every now and then just to play the Boss rush and beat Sigma since the Shadow armor makes it easy, but I really think that obtaining the Shadow armor should be the main goal and the last level should be "easier" - essentially making Mega Man feel like NINJA GAIDEN. Great music, great visuals but terrible gameplay. ZX and ZX advent were really good by the way.
Thanks for sharing your story! I'm honestly shocked to hear that anyone would play X7 multiple times (I played it twice for my upcoming video and even that was a nightmare lol). I haven't played the Z collection yet. I'm excited to jump back into those someday
In the absence of more new Megaman games, I would like to recommend something to you all. Look up a game called 30XX. Also, if you want a Metroid in between Metroids, look up A Robot Named FIGHT!. I hope both games keep you all sated until we get new official games for both series.❤
I'm fairly sure just exiting the level with escape works too to get the Hadoken in X1. At least I seem to remember always using escape and getting it. That being said, I had no idea you could cut off parts of bosses with the boomerang, dang!
I came from the Ninja Gaiden series on NES. I don’t like the original Mega Man series but X I feel made up everything that lacked in the NES series for me. The music, graphics, sound FX and storytelling is classic and a attribution to the SNES improvement of It’s predecessor. Being able to charge all weapons and improve your armor including a game changing dash and just pure chaotic action is my lane. One will always be my personal favorite but X3 I probably replay the most.
12:40 Oh wow, I remember those news back in the day.. even the pictures circulating around...and the deal he made after for 1m to star on a pronnn ...hardcore memory unlocked..
I loved this video, very informative and it took me back to my early teen years. I wish you’d talked about the upgrades you can get on X4 via “cheat codes”: Black Armor Zero and Ultimate Armor X. I’d also loved to hear your opinion on why they changed the opening for X4 from Yukie Nakama’s “Makenai Ai ga Kitto Aru” to much less impressive instrumental music. Cheers!
I mean the boring but probably correct answer for the song change is that they didn't want to pay her royalties or license her song indefinitely, right? Making their own instrumental song for the intro is cheaper than paying to use a pop stars song
I loved X. Probably 1 and 4 are my favorites. If they ever rebooted this series Capcom should look at games like Nier: Automata to update the combat system but still have that megaman x feel.
It's crazy that Maverick Hunter X didn't reach the numbers Capcom wanted. I highly enjoyed every aspect of the game. Especially the added narratives and for me playing as Vava aka Vile. I wish Capcom allowed the continuation for the remake of the MMX series. The stories, animated cut scenes, graphics, and music would've been great. I like Keijei Inafune incorpated Vava and X's entertwining journey. Man just imagine if Capcom brought him back to complete the remake for all series leading up to MMX9. We would've gotten a good story on Vava went through his MK version armors while X and Zero contimued their route.
@@WesDoesGames Heh, yea I do like the jazziness of the Saturn remixes, but I like how metal the SNES sounds. I was actually kind of sad that the X collection on GameCube used the Saturn music. It has the cutscenes tho, which was nice. Looking forward to the next vid!
Not sure if anyone has ever noticed or pointed this out, I never see this mentioned in any videos or articles, but they subtly preserved the W/Wily connection throughout MMX and MMZ series. Σ (Sigma) is a sideways W. ω (lowercase omega) is a rounded/curvy w. I never knew about the W cobra thing, but it makes it seem even more likely that their symbols reference the Wily W for villains.
You forgot to mention, in Megaman Maverick Hunter X if you don’t grab the buster upgrade early in the game, when zero sacrifices himself during the last vile fight in the sigma castle stage, you take his buster and when you use it, you get a red colored blast instead of the original blast.
God I love x4 honestly my favorite in the X series. The ost upgrades from snes Zero playable it was done right yea the 90s voice acting was a crime but I wouldnt change it given that era its funny memes for a reason. But x5 onward thats a tough pill to swallow. The 3d era was rough til x8 and it needs to evolve even now if x9 were to come back.
He went maverick because in x4 if you look at the animation if you play as zero it will show that zero has the wily virus. When sigma smashes zeros gem thingy zeros virus gets sent to sigma and i think that’s why he became a maverick.
X3 is the best game imo. The music, and the difficulty of 100% completion made it feel grittier, deeper, and the game was also prettier. X could be so powerful but the gunplay was still challenging and felt responsive. My 2c.

X2 was the first I played in the X series so it holds a special place, but my favourite has to be X4 since it was the first that made Zero fully playable and the jump from SNES to PS upped the quality
31:15 if you select Magna Centipede’s level from the stage select instead of the North Pole fortress, it also triggers the final level.
Never knew that, that's a cool factoid. It also raises even more questions about what the hell was up with the final stage choice
Loved that detail, I remember trying it out as a kid and being stoked that it worked but also confused because how can the final stage be two separate places at once?
I'm only 5mins in, but man this is excellent! Excited to watch the rest, thanks for making this
I hope you enjoy the rest! Thanks for the kind words
I appreciate you including the Japanese commercials.
Saw the intro, had to subscribe. This guy gets it
😎
There's only one reasonable explanation how zero keep coming back to life

I loved this. This series has great memories for me. Megaman 8 had beautiful cutscenes
I love the intermissions and the little adult swim title cards
this vid needs to be in the museum of internet. awesome work!
Thanks!
i like how the transition between games in your video
gives me old adult swim vibes
one of my favorite series in the 90s. Played the hell out of 1, 2 and 4. Great games
Totally agree
I just started the video but this is great, I'm doing Megaman x legacy right now. I played the first 3 all the time as a kid, i know the first one by heart. It's one of the greatest game ever!
"Talkin about that heat shimmer!" *air horns* both made me aggravated and got me to subscribe. Looks like you win this round Mr. TH-camr
The best subs for me are the ones I annoyed into it, so this is extra special
X3 may have “cooler” maverick designs, but it suffers because of how many bosses there are.
This is because so many of the bosses only move left and right with little variation in their attackeds. To compensate for their simplistic attack patterns, they do absurd damage to non-upgraded X.
Also almost all the mavericks Half Spark mandrel syndrome.
The levels feel very boring or empty too. The armor is sweet though.
Dude, the armor is so rad!
I hate that it all turned gold at the end though, it looks so much better with its original color.
There's a mod to change the vile music in maverick hunter to normal stage music. Definitely makes it better
A collection should be made for X Hunter, Powered Up, Command Mission, Soccer, Real Operation, and all the other oddball entries of each series.
That'd be awesome (except for Mega Man Soccer, that game can burn in hell)
@WesDoesGames Ah well, I never got the chance to play smaller titles like that one, so I wouldn't know. I still say it should be done.
maaaan I want Command Mission
Good work on the video. Enjoyed and agreed with most of your comments. Subscribed.
Welcome aboard!
Chill Penguin has the best theme song imo
X3 was so special to me. I got it on my birthday. It was fantastic with amazing features and great music. Later versions change the music which was not as good.

Not only is this an awesome video retrospective but my man also knows how to do proper HipHop sample sequences 🎉
You're too kind ❤️
that X2 Zero theme has been the alarm on my phone for decades! It's just too good
That's awesome
This is a real good video. You just got yourself a new subscriber
Glad to have ya
I LOVE, unironically LOVE, MM8 and MMX4s voice acting. So much.
Why must we fight? You are not my enemy
The Best Wars reference had me weak lol. ill sub you for that.
Glad to have you aboard
@@WesDoesGames do the early transformers games!
Mega Man has some of the best music in any video game. The fact they made it sound that good on the SNES hardware is really something else.
Yeah the X1 soundtrack is really something else
Pretty good review dude pretty awesome.. not sure if x6 7 8 will be a pretty long review
un muy buen video! el algoritmo me sugirió tu canal y ha sido uno de los mejores contenidos que he visto relacionada con la saga de X!
aplausos! 👏🏻
Muchas gracias
Okay... you got me, you got me with the Wimp Low "trained him wrong as a joke" he thinks winning is losing. I feel like you're my long lost twin, what even the heck is going on here. Probably the best youtube recommendation those suits have ever done.
Welcome aboard, fellow person of culture (and appreciator of terrible 2003 films)
Great video, thank you for this.
Thanks for the kind words!
@@WesDoesGames You're welcome, big MegamanX fan as well and I know how hard these videos are to create, so I appreciate it :)
X4 terrible voice acting is my favourite part of x4 I love zeros VA
It is interchangeable with DMC1 Dante's "fill your dark soul with light." If I see one, my brain immediately summons the other.
X4 is my favourite
i swear if theres a 5 yr old who comes to this video and says: "oh yeah hes so sigma."
Fr no Cap(Com)
Star Force 4🥺
mega man X, took me all of summer at my grandparents house, and did it the hard way, didn't even know there was a order or "weaknesses" to bosses.
2:45 this bit earned you a subscriber haha
(burp) thank you
I am 41 years old.
@@WesDoesGames
X7 is easy once you max each character’s stats.
I love how in the Ruby Sears series X describes a robot apocalypse living hell with "Cigma" & Dr Light says; What an amazing world you come from 😂😂.
In the absence of more new Megaman games, I would like to recommend something to you all.
Look up a game called 30XX.
Also, if you want a Metroid in between Metroids, look up A Robot Named FIGHT!.
I hope both games keep you all sated until we get new official games for both series.❤
Hot take city! Wall kick was my intro to the game and made me love it.
Funny thing is that love megaman x6 and 8.
Unholy
Megaman x 4 and 5 are my personal favorites, MMX 6 has some wild level design though but of course the first game is always will be the one
X1-4 were produced by the OGs, hence why they’re the best!
Getting to play as Vile was super damn cool.
12:40 Oh wow, I remember those news back in the day.. even the pictures circulating around...and the deal he made after for 1m to star on a pronnn ...hardcore memory unlocked..
90s were a wild time
@@WesDoesGames Raw times..🤣
Can't believe you left out the coolest part of x4. Black zero. Sure it's just a cosmetic but it's BADASS!!!
I'll mention it in X5 I promise 😅
Adultswim inspired intros and midcut, Sold, Subbed.
"Ha-DOO-ken"...
LoL! Good shit.
I love the Japanese x3 music
MMX4's soundtrack was easily... **chef kiss**
To be fair, X5 being the start of the end of the series... makes sense as it was originally suppose to be the end of the series.
I have disagree because when x5 was released i never heard was suppose to be the end.
Check out Mega Man X - Corrupted.
I would pay $1000 to play that game.
That game is never coming out.
You mean, Check out Mega Man X8 16Bit Demake*!
That's what X9 needs to do!
MMX 1 is the first game I play on a new PC/GPU for no other reason than it's just the thing I do lol So the first stage is also my most played
Haha that's great that that's also your benchmark
I LOVED Megaman Xtreme as a kid
Well done! I agree with most of your points. I’m looking forward to THE FALL. Thanks!
X3 sucks 😂
@@misterhimura036 Cool story, son.👍🏻
dude - your intro was so old school Toonami & I love it.
I appreciate it!
1:09:42 this was actually confirmed by the VA herself in an interview. Along with that, every single VA from 8 was reused for X4
"come on guys, we've only rented the sound booth for another hour, let's cram another game in"
The SNES versions of the X3 songs always sounds better to me. It just hits harder.
Yeah I was up for giving saturn a try but they just sound like cheap imitations. I do like that they're jazzier though
New subscriber here. The “why would anyone wanna buy a single nut ( testicle)?“ got me.
I never remapped buttons. I liked dash on the A button (and later Circle button on PlayStation).
I’m digging the adult swim intermissions. You get a subscribe sir. I mean I was going to anyway because this is some nice content but still.
A fellow man of culture
He went maverick because in x4 if you look at the animation if you play as zero it will show that zero has the wily virus. When sigma smashes zeros gem thingy zeros virus gets sent to sigma and i think that’s why he became a maverick.
He's got a virus in his wily
X3 is the best game imo. The music, and the difficulty of 100% completion made it feel grittier, deeper, and the game was also prettier. X could be so powerful but the gunplay was still challenging and felt responsive. My 2c.
I respect that. X3 is a classic.
