These pixel art store fronts are always so fun and charming! All the little details really bring them to life. And as always I find it interesting to hear the process behind these pieces :]

My favourite series on this channel returns!! 🤩 Loved this breakdown of the individual pieces, I thought it was particularly neat how well-defined the wires & leaves are at the top with such limited colours there! Also, I like the sound of that jazz pixel art analogy 🎶😎
Thanks! Yeah I was digging how those wires on their own were looking as texture; they got layered over a bit with the foliage but it's a interesting mix of organic and inorganic... of nature and machine coming together as one... biodigital jazz, man 😎
You gotta appreciate how much detail you can really put into the pixel pieces. That little flower at the end of the store sign, just a few dots but....perfect.
I started following your channel mostly because of this type of videos where you draw big beautiful atmospheric scenes. Happy to see a new one, thank you!
As far as I'm aware, most germanic and slavic languages use a word derived from "apotheca" or the greek "ἀποθήκη". Not sure if the Norman conquest is to "blame" for the use of "pharmacy" in modern english.
@@DontDoPhlog That is basically correct, but modern English has - and I'm not a linguist or historian, but as far as my understanding goes - ~2/3 of it's vocabulary derived from romance languages and not Germanic. That is mostly due to the Roman invasion and Norman conquest. Especially "upper class" words are often derived from Romance languages.
As always, it's fantastic! Those cats are brilliant too - always amazing what one pixel either way can do to a character pose. The hunched cat pose is so spot on 😉
Hello There! Prequel something something... This design was a total win. You have really mastered the niche of cyberpunk x pastel aesthetics. My one remark - cant recall if the palette bit count was same in all similar of this 'series', but would have loved to see 1 more color, of a cyan light blue, to use for accent. Especially to also differentiate the plant/vegetation vs wires/cables up on the roof.
General Dan! Thanks so much, glad you like the design! You've got a good eye, I usually do tend to use at least one more colour to balance out the pop of alternate colour, so a cyan would fit perfectly in that way. I've been interested in keeping things limited and reductive, so I started from that this time - but it'd be curious to add that in and do a recolour variant or something. 🤔☺️✨
I always start watching these videos with the intent to skim through to the end (due to my short attention span) but I always watch the entire video. Great work - as always. Cheers!
I've been watching every video you put out for a few months now, and your optimism and creativity literally never fail to bring a smile to my face. Whenever I need to get excited about creating art, all I gotta do is pop on one of these. Thank you!
I didn't even read the title of the video, I went like "yay, Brandon uploaded :)", followed by the apothecary part and I was so ready to recommend the anime only to hear you're already watching it. I know I'm subscribed to the right channel
Hey! Love your vids, could you do a upper-body or full body portrait of a character? I'm finding it a really difficult task and I can draw well on paper, and do pixel art, but it seems I can't translate it.
Great as always! One video I have always wanted to see you make would be you aping (pun intended) the pre-rendered sprites seen in the SNES Donkey Kong Country trilogy. You came close during your 256 colour Mario sprite, but a deeper dive would be really interesting, and if there’s one person that could do it it’s you!
I don't how you'd do it, but what if one day you made a piece lining them all up? It could be a good opportunity to create a scrolling animation gif of a character walking by all the store fronts, and as they walk passed them, little bits and bobs are happening between them. It'd also be satisfying to see them in a rainbow pattern, but also seeing them in a disordered pattern might set up and good moment for creativity.
@@BJGpixel It would! It could also be a nice moment to give pointers on how to make chiptune music! I'm always interested in your process and your methods.
Beautiful work as always! I'm kind of curious what your work would look like at a native 1:1 resolution on a CRT as opposed to scaled up? The nature of CRT's and their scanlines, the way the phosphor glows, and all that jazz was exploited to great effect back in the day by artists to achieve all sorts of awesome things like transparencies, the illusion of more colors, implied shapes, etc. Dang I might need to dig out my old Trinitron and look at some of your stuff on it lol ❤
2:17 Poison tasting was a full-time job in many, many royal courts. Since poison was so easy to get into food, it was absolutely vital. If anything, the anime actually downplays it.
Hey Brandon, when you're rescaling parts of your pixel art in photoshop, how are you avoiding anti-aliasing and ugly stretches? Is your file in Indexed color mode?
When I saw the word "Apothecary" and the rough sketch in the shape of a land raider, my tired brain was like "cool space marines in pixel art." Still impressive work, but I think this perspective could be used for such a theme, don't you think so?

My first reaction upon the thumbnail is that the shop shape looks like a watering can. Specially with the flowers everywhere.

Pharmacy in Swedish is called "Apotek" :) Awesome art piece! :D
Similar in German: Apotheke!

Fun fact: in the Polish language, "pharmacy" is "apteka", which is very similar to "apothecary", since both are derived from Latin "apotheca".
