British Gothic band The Mission debuts in 1986 with the album "God's Own Medicine", "Wasteland" was a big hit in 1987. This is a extended video version.
The Mission, The Cult, Jesus and Mary Chain, Sisters of Mercy, Heroes del Silencio... I'm so blessed that this bands (among others) are part of my life.
Absolutely. So many waves of diverse & original sounding music. Goth, Rock, Indie, New Romantics, Punk, Heavy Metal (& the New Wave Heavy Metal), Dance, Electronica, Northern Soul..... Endless. So much positive energy despite some pretty bleak periods.
Super time to be around in crazy 20s for AMAZING talented musicians at the time. US "late Boomers/Gen Xers" have AMAZINFG talent and creativity! All orginal. AND radio never played all undergound or pirate radio later nite.
English landscapes, summer woodlands, old churches, stone circles, cider, youth, love, childhood, the year 1987........these are just a few of the beautiful things I think of when I listen to the Mission. The spirit will live forever
Being able to listen to the Mission UK was the only thing that got me through my 6 month naval deployments at sea! I cant even describe how lonely those were. I would find a place on the bow to listen to this song and stare into the sea.
This song is wisdom and a warning. I faked my age at a goth club in L.A. back in the early 90's. I danced to this....This song was still playing strong back then and I feel it will go ' Main Stream ' sooner than later. Some heavy days are on us and I feel like the 80's underground music warned us it would be this way.
It was the Mission's first major crossover hit, blasting into the Top 40 of the UK charts at number 24 and peaking at number 11 the following week,in late January 1987. I'm sure it was probably referring to something else but I equated it with the post-industrial wasteland up and down the land left by the economic scarring and Thatcher government policies of the years leading up to that time.
Damn, I wish I had a time machine!!! Dancing till the sun came up listening to genius music like this!!! The 80s was a fantastic time to be alive and young!!!! Thanks for sharing this amazing song and transporting back to a time when life made sense and there was a sense of wonder and the idea you could do anything you set your mind to!!! Cheers
This song reminds me so much of one of my other favorite bands of the time...Echo and the Bunnymen. Oh, how I wish people were making wonderful music like this nowadays. My only hope is that I have introduced my children to my old alternative music so they can keep the fan base going.
It was far more limited as far as gear goes, and in a way I think that forced people to be creative as far as filling up the "space". Totally love that stuff too.

And I have some tapes of his gigs. He was a huge Sisters fan. Check out his You Tube channel. And you will find some awesome gigs. I was at a number of them with him.. New Order Trinity hall in 81 and 82 are both on there. Shambeko blog 😀🤘
Was well into these in the 80’s saw them in 86/87 on the gods own medicine tour amazing live band wish i got to see them again sadly i didn’t. Still a fan now still listen every now and then.
The Mission intrigue me. I never felt the need to own any of their music nor listen to them. Then I went to see them one night at the Astoria in London. One absolutely *storming gig* . Just *EXCELLENT!!!*
I saw these guys in 1988 in Montevideo, Uruguay... Superb concert.. Dark, energétic, misterious, enigmátic, power full.. Great music.. Sounded like gotic rock back then but still sounds good With this kinda dance remix versión.. Lyrics are awsome.. Tremenda banda de los 80
Remember driving to reading festival just to see these ,didn't see anyone else and came home again ....driving through all the crowds at the festival to leave was mad but well worth it .......see them a couple of times Brixton and somewhere else I can't remember

LYRICS :
I still believe in God
But God no longer believes in me
There's a crystal view from my window
And I can see years to come
I live for the burn and the sting of pleasure
I live for the sword, the steel, and the gun
I can tear down the walls, storm the barricades
Run to the place where the frightened crawl
Desire lurks beyond good and evil
So I dance on the graves where the hallowed fall
Over this land
All over this wasteland
Over this land
All over this wasteland
You can touch, but please keep your distance
You're innocent and pure and with no shame
The spirit is willing, and the flesh is craved
You tease and you taunt with the pleasure of pain
Over this land
All over this wasteland
Over this land
All over this wasteland
Heaven and Hell, I know them well
But I haven't yet made my choice
I'm feeling scared 'cause I'm shouting loud
And no one can hear my voice
I'm walking the tightwire, can't look down
Strung out high, above you all
Fateful wind blows through this land
Howls my name, heralds my fall
Over this land
All over this wasteland
Over this land
All over this wasteland (x2)
Wonder what a "crystal view" is ;)

If they are as good as they were back in the day, then you're in for a treat.
@@peterritson1875 I have seen the Sisters half a dozen times at a guess! I think I first saw them, also in Bristol, in 82🤔 My friend used too record hundreds of gigs. And I have some tapes of his gigs. He was a huge Sisters fan. Check out his You Tube channel. And you will find some awesome gigs. I was at a number of them with him.. New Order Trinity hall in 81 and 82 are both on there. Shambeko blog 😀🤘
@@peterritson1875 And we saw the Mission many times.
Was well into these in the 80’s saw them in 86/87 on the gods own medicine tour amazing live band wish i got to see them again sadly i didn’t. Still a fan now still listen every now and then.
Interesting song. I love the bass.❤❤❤
Haven't heard this in like 10 years. Love this band.
Seen several versions of this song....by far, my favorite. ..well done
The Mission intrigue me. I never felt the need to own any of their music nor listen to them. Then I went to see them one night at the Astoria in London. One absolutely *storming gig* . Just *EXCELLENT!!!*
So excited to finally see them live September 2023 awesomeness
Where did you see them?
the gothic kings!, still this song gives chills down to my spine, so good
Saw them live in the eighties at The Astoria …. NEC too in Birmingham … brilliant
61 and still in love with this band
And thank God for You Tube so we can find all this wonderful music:)
Remember driving to reading festival just to see these ,didn't see anyone else and came home again ....driving through all the crowds at the festival to leave was mad but well worth it .......see them a couple of times Brixton and somewhere else I can't remember
" Tower of strength" is one of the greatest songs I've ever heard and in my all time top 10 ,this track was in preparation for it.
Hey, I had a great band I was managing perform it live at my wedding for my wedding march song, Mission wasn't available, ha ha. They did a great job. Marriage lasted 6 I months but , Tower of Strength ...FOREVER
@@levanamedina7097 fair play to you.
I used to listen to the mission all the time, i forgot how good it was especially for while you do creative things what a shame you never hear from them any more
Love his voice.
Truly an era of just being genuinely expressive, persona non grata attitude that has become quite monumentally prophetic, given 2020!
O que é bom nunca morre!!!! Gothic ontem em 80 pra mi ficou 90, 00, até hoje, sensacional!
Los vi en concierto en el año 88 en Valencia. Grandes!!! Magníficos!!!
👏👏👏👏
Do you know how long you had to wait for your favorite radio station to play your favorite song? Often enough, if you didn't know someone who owned the album, you had to call in with a request and then you waited at least an hour!
The Mish for me and my family are so heavily important! Can't await to meet you live!
Wayne Hussey is a godamn genius. One of Gothic Rock’s best guitarist and songwriters.
