My family is dysfunctional. One day it was different, I was sitting with my parents and casually chatting, we were laughing, everything seemed "normal". We decided to play a music channel on the TV and while I was looking for some music I came across this song and video, I immediately liked it and turned on Shazam to find it. This song now and always will remind me of that day when it seemed like we were a normal family, a day when there was no yelling and no fighting.

Reminds me of a friend who had lots of those days always around me. We should have gone out with each other but he never wanted to shout at me. Because he knew it would upset me and he had that family.
Then he got a different girlfriend who he could shout at.
And a different one and a different one.😂
      Then he died.
Life isn't strait forward and I miss him a lot.
I am blessed he saw me as the dutchess and treated me like it.
I miss him every single day.

Was thrilled when I met Peter in the late 80s when I worked at a local radio station. He's very slight man, I was taken aback - they always look larger than life on TV/on screen! Very soft, deep voice, not showy at all. Just showed up at the station all alone, no entourage or anything. Made me love him even more! I was never a huge Bauhaus fan, but I do remember listening to his CDs from around that time over and over, great memories.

The most impressive part is that there was no digital editing then. No such thing as layers of video elements on a computer. Each layer was composited using analog equipment and hundreds of hours of focus and dedication. Lots of cool stuff could be done with green screens and multiple video players feeding into a mixing console, but the high quality equipment was crazy expensive and required studio space to accommodate all of it. Now people can do all this in their phones. Crazy world.

THAT ONLY light in the pitch black arena was a beam of focused light that focused ONLY on his eyes....thats ALL you could see....and his eyes were closed.
    a moment later....his eyes OPENED WIDE ...
it was THEN I knew I was in the right place at the right time...because Cuts You Up...began.

Arguably the final classic of 1980's "New Wave", and what a masterpiece it is...I remember this song from his solo 1989 album late that year (even before the single was played ad infinitum on the radio in early 1990) right after the Berlin Wall fell and all hell was breaking lose in Europe with the end of the Soviet Bloc, and right before I, and many others from my generation, were stopped dead in our tracks as Nirvana slapped our brains into an entirely new rock-music dimension. But this song was (is) a beautiful last breath of "deep youth" stretching back to our pre-teen years when MTV ruled the airwaves, along with blonde mullets, weird tight leather pseudo-punk pants, and Murphy looking and singing like the rock god that he was...

Early November here. I remember when this came out and played it on my show almost weekly. Beyond a classic.

why am i so drawn to this song. this is a genius song. how it comes together - the beat, the words, the voice. that voice is so haunting, cold, intense, desolate yet at the same time not defeated or hopeless. this song gives me such an inspiring sadness.

I loved reading your comment, I feel exactly the same. It feels like it’s from a different world, and inspiring sadness is spot on.

I think that was quite possibly his intention.

This song is timeless. His voice is at its best when he maximizes its depth and resonance. I never get tired of listening, and watching the video. 🥰

I saw Peter Murphy 3 times back in the day, at clubs in Florida. I don't think I've ever seen anyone that sounds as good live as he did. Amazing voice!! So cool. Great memories!

His vocals...are like an entirely different instrument on it's own. no one can sing like this these days. Today...whispy, "boy" siingers...especially the men. From Rock to soul(which alos, no one sings anymore). Thank you Peter and Pebo Bryson.
