He was one of my kill hats in hotel company in 2005. He was a badass DI. He was definitely a hardass but would always use a negative situation into a teachable moment. Damm just to hear his voice takes me back. Semper Fi Sgt Stit!!!
My heart goes out to you guys that were completley dropped from training. The best damn recruit in my plt who had the highest pft and everything going for him was dropped for a stress fracture to the hip which resulted in a crack that went straight through. Semper fi recruit BEANBLOSSEM!
he was my Jay belt or whatever you call it, the DI under your Senior and above the bulldogs. Platoon 2071 April 21st, 2006. We were his first Honor platoon and we had a 6'10" recruit so we stood out a lot.
Discipline your mind and get in the best shape you can before you go. Don't bulk up, concentrate on endurance and being lean. Train to the PFT situps, chinupsNOT pullups and three mile run. See if your recruiter can hook you up with other poolees and run in formation and sing cadence. That'll increase your lung capacity, very important. And whatever you do don't shave your head or get any military style ink. Practice humility. And NEVER, NEVER EVER QUIT!! Be wary of mail from your brother.
I could tell you everything you'd like to know about MCRD San Diego, as I was there in the 70's and 80's. As I said, my father was a DI there for 4 years. I was station'd on Pendleton for 4 of my 8 years in in the 90's. I lived on Pendleton in the 80's in San Onofre and Oceanside.
I have been in and around the Marine Corps for over 30 years. I was born in NC near Camp Lejeune in 1969 as my father was station'd there an went to Vietnam , was raised on MCRD San Diego and Camp Pendleton, and recruiting and I&I stations all over America. contin-...
Most important thing to remember about boot - it's nothing more than a big game. It's not personal. Don't take it personally. Play the game, and the three months go by faster than you think.
if u have more u could get extra money but if u have a bachelors degree then u could become an officer in the marines which would be freakin cool, an elite within the elite.
@barmtrail yeah thats the national defense medal. even though we get it right when we join, its awarded to those in the military serving during a time of conflict. its in the right spot.
A Sergeant as Senior Drill Instructor that's a little unusual. My platoon had 2 Staff Sergeants and a Sergeant. Ssgt Stewart, Ssgt Johnigon & Sgt Valentine. Oct-Dec 1973. Plt 395 3rd RTB, Parris Island
He was my one of my drill instructor for hotel company in 2005. He was a damn good drill instructor that never gave up on any one of us. Semper Fidelis Sgt Stit
I concur.. The DI's mellow out towards the end. At this point he's starting to talk to them in a more casual manner as they are almost done. Also he is being recorded so he's probably a bit out of his element.
I am joining in September. No , they dont shout at you anymore , that is just the movies. My recruiter told me I get my own room and only have to work 9-5 . Sounds cool. At the moment I have to bust my ass in a library. It will be nice to chill out.
It might also depend on the company, too. Our Senior would slay our entire platoon at least 2-3 times a week and fuck up our squad bay at least once. If anything, I found it got harder around 2nd and 3rd phase.
Grandfather Clause. If you enlisted before they enacted that rule you can still have tattoos, it's just to make sure that it stops with new people so once everyone with a tattoo is gone no one will have one.
This Ssgt. is talking to a 'tour' of educators. He is not "weak" (as lehnrik disrespectfully stated), when addressing his recruits. You WISH you were HALF the man these men are. Semper Fi
I went to PI as did my father. My father was a DI in San Deigo. They are worlds apart and PI is 100 times harder. You are totally taken a way from the civil world. Go goto the Island and you are not seen again until you are a Marine. I don't have enough space to talk about the rest here.....
thanks for the advice DI... i cant wait to join... im takin all the advice i can... i kno wat i gotta do to prepare for the physical stress which im doin... but i can take any hints *cough cough*
My younger brother is a E6 ( Petty i.e. worstless? officer ) Soon to be up for his E-7 Chief test. His in the Nuc field. So I know Navy well too. Plus, I road on more than a few ships, nice side burns boys, real nice, lol.
This was given to recruits who were in the RAMPS program the 3rd week of rt, for motivation, if i'm correct i was there when this was being recorded, as a squad leader
@dalshakkamel There is a difference between talking to a drill instructor and following a command. The people he is talking to aren't recruits also or he wouldn't talk to them like that.
I went to boot camp in 1994 and not ONCE did any of the four drill instructors speak that way. It was non stop in your face knocked to the ground hard corps. This video is unbelievable.
This is right before graduation as he says this. He is probably the senior drill instructor. as you know the senior has the job of being fatherly. he knew these recruits who were right there at that moment were going to make it through. This would have been after the crucible. Its one of the rare moments when the Senior talks to you like a human and then turns you over to the heavy and the shitting on you continues. Don't overthink it lol
@ducatiprofessional yeah, sounds like you had a REAL job. I chose infantry, did great until about the time I got to my duty station. Nothing to do with Infantry. All ceremonial marching. Some of it was awe inspiring, but a lot of times I felt like I just didn't fit in. I still talk with one of my buddies, he's in the army right now, and he's in Afghanistan. He told me its another "Vietnam" and don't believe anything you hear in the news, those were his exact words. Semper Fi.
this marine in the video was my senior drill instructor from aug-09 to nov-09. he is a badass. trust me. he seems quite and nice but when he needs to he can turn on the whoop ass very quickly.
LOL, its not so so bad. CA is nice because you get all the perks of the Ocean, nicer weather, many things to do, etc, etc. Yet, come back to the base and live cheaply. :P You can head down to Mexico, goto Vegas, up to Hollywood and on and on. Just lots to do all the time.
Senior D.I. with his gig right on. Correct me if i am wrong, but is not the ribbon he was issued when he was a private, supposed to be in the first line(below) the top ribbons?
Judging by the video camera (no recruit would be filming), and the fact the Sergeant is referring to a graduation that had just taken place, he's talking to civilian family members.
I know in the Marine's they are getting more strict about tattoos on recruits, anyway. If you had so many tattoos before a more strict rule was set than it was fine, but future people are not so lucky. I have met some guys with almost sleeves. I would say 90% of Marines (guys and gals) have at least 1 tattoo. They do have regulations though.
after three yrs u r once again ready for enlistment. but when u go to marine corps bootcamp, when u come out, u will be back to a E-1 thats if u dont have 13 credits of college.
The confidence course had some obstacles that were easy, and some that were a bitch. There were a few I couldn't do because when I went down this one obstacle, I didn't get a good grip on the rope, slid down a bit, and let go, so I dropped about 20 feet. The fall disoriented me a bit, but the accidental slide down the rope sheared off a big chunk of skin from my palms, and the DI sent me to the Corpsman, who didn't let me continue.
agree with the heart of your statement. however, look at his shoulder chevrons again...yea, Sergeant of Marines, not an E-6. impressive he is a SDI at E-5 and not E-6. not unheard of though, just unusual in this day and age.
Full Metal Jacket is hollywood. He wasn't talking to Marines or else his tone would have been more direct. He was porbably talking to civilians interested in recruit training for the USMC. Full Metal Jacket is a good movie and it's boot camp scenes are accurate sometimes, but don't use movies as a standard.
his belt is mis-aligned with the buttons on his shirt. If DI are about perfection he should set an example (that is something he would get in the face of a recruit over)
Yes, but the Marine Corps is getting more strict with tats. They've started to restrict the size of tattoos. i think tattoos on your arm can't be any larger than your hand.
@Dracanon It is another vietnam. They only thing i can make of it is that our troops are getting outstanding experience and training for another conflict which i believe is right around the corner. In some part of the world. Maybe korea or iran. The problem with being overseas as long as the afghanistan fight, is that the troops get displacent and loose focus. Is there still a points system to rely on for rotation? Hope your friend keeps his powder dry and eye balls sharp.
Well, they're not allowed to hit recruits, technically, but it still happens. Probably not as much as it used to, since it was allowed back then. But then, I hear they're not "supposed" to curse, yet my DIs cursed constantly.
OOHRAH to that! My brother is in Afganistan(or how ever the hell you spell it, lol) right now, i wish the best to him, Im 15 and going to join the USMC when im 18 or 19. Do u have any tips? Cause Im kinda scared, but i know I can do it.
Marines are the finest human beings on face of the earth, Semper Fi.
Ok what about us Aussie soldiers???
Except the ones that were busted for trafficking recently at Camp Pendleton. I agree though that the vast majority become good people>

Marines deserve respect and admiration, they are truly fine Americans.
SGT. Stitt my senior drill instructor. hotel hell 2035 2006. He saved our asses more times then I can count from all the other DI's. Semper Fi KILL!
SDI in the beginning is a POG. Never been in country at least at the time it was filmed
Seriously there was Lance’s with bigger stacks than this pog

the part you said about universities is soo true.

@elsope1 generally a boot sgt isn't a senior drill instructor. attention to detail
boys to men...Marines..Thanks for your service...
I went to Iraq with that Drill Instructor, he's a Staff Sergeant now.
He was my one of my drill instructor for hotel company in 2005. He was a damn good drill instructor that never gave up on any one of us. Semper Fidelis Sgt Stit
@TheMasterFISTER
He was talking to poolees, not recruits. Yes, there is a difference between how DIs choose to talk to recruits and everybody else.
I concur.. The DI's mellow out towards the end. At this point he's starting to talk to them in a more casual manner as they are almost done. Also he is being recorded so he's probably a bit out of his element.
@chrisbreshears I think congress changed it. It's now the Department of the Navy and Marine Corps, or will be very soon.
I am joining in September. No , they dont shout at you anymore , that is just the movies. My recruiter told me I get my own room and only have to work 9-5 . Sounds cool. At the moment I have to bust my ass in a library. It will be nice to chill out.
Yea, I deployed with 1/2 Motor-T last year.

This guy is Drill Instructor Sgt Stitt. He was the DI I had 5 years ago.
omg when my was the drill master there i would love to go with my mom and watch the recruits
Yeah, he is up for his test now infact. Once he gets back from Sea duty.
im with both of your points there. cant wait to leave.
thats senior drill instructor sgt. stitt. he was my senior d.i. in hotel co. plt.2035. his last cycle. oorah!!

I thought the USMC looked down upon tattoos? Surprising to see one on a DI.
Looks like he's Senior drill instructor I'm the video must of been right after my platoon

That's what you call the Marine Corps "Moment of Clarity". REALLY BIG guns make the point clear for that skinny.
They don't yell all the time, they do sleep occasionally :)
agree with the heart of your statement. however, look at his shoulder chevrons again...yea, Sergeant of Marines, not an E-6. impressive he is a SDI at E-5 and not E-6. not unheard of though, just unusual in this day and age.
yes sir
I hope you are happy chris 94 , you made me cry. Wait till I am a marine , you wont call me names then .
What are you reporting, video recruit?!?! The weather!?!?! HA! Sorry, it just brought back memories of BMT.
Why is he being so nice?
You just gotta remember do EVERYTHING the DI says, and fast. Also, I hope ur an early riser. I wasn't , It was hell for me lol
@saintbrock3 Top right. It looks red and yellow.
I've met this Marine what's his name? Good times!!
that regulation was put in after he was already in the corps, so it doesn't apply to him. its a grandfather clause
his belt is mis-aligned with the buttons on his shirt. If DI are about perfection he should set an example (that is something he would get in the face of a recruit over)
I agree. In the Marine Corps in which I was a member such behavior would have been considered undisciplined and unacceptable for anyone.
Yes, but the Marine Corps is getting more strict with tats. They've started to restrict the size of tattoos. i think tattoos on your arm can't be any larger than your hand.
@Darkrunner1975 How can you possibly think that the building in the background was your barracks, aren't they all the same?
I did too. Were you with 1/2? Thats Ssgt Stitt.
yeah i think I remember but I can't put a face to it. did u make it though?
@Dracanon It is another vietnam. They only thing i can make of it is that our troops are getting outstanding experience and training for another conflict which i believe is right around the corner.
