you know....Drill instructors are really nice people. They'll cuddle you in at night and take you to the best beach on earth which is "the pit". Every Drill instructor cares about you so they take you there to have some fun in the sand.
Nobody will ever be more invested in the success and graduation of the recruits than his drill instructor. The drill instructors are tough, but fair, and are men who will not let a recruit down. If you WANT to be a Marine, and you give it all you've got, your drill instructors will be the ones who push you over the top to make sure you pin on the Eagle, Globe, and Anchor, with pride.
The way he stormed off back into the office and slammed the door shut behind him really got me as he was really calm in comparison to other DIs when giving the speech!
I graduated from G company platoon 2156. Ill never forget that day. The looks on every single one of our faced will be forever engraved in my brain. 8/22/11 - 11/18/11. Oorah to all my brothers from 2156.
I just graduated from Parris Island on Friday. I was in G Company platoon 2081. I started and ended on the exact same days as you. Only 11 years later. 8/22/22 - 11/18/22
I remember this speech like it was yesterday and the only thing running through my head was "fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck fuck" then the door slams shut and it gets real.
I will never forget that day. I still remember my Drill Instructor's names: Sgt. Mathews, Sgt. Neminger, and Sgt. Williams. They are the Marines that made me who I am today. (Sorry Sgt. Neminger if I didn't spell your name correctly)
The stopped just as the fun was about to start! Almost makes me miss the fun. But then I always said if I had a chance I'd go back. Knowing what you know as a Marine would make the first part of Recruit Training..... interesting.
Its been 34 years since I sat on that floor and I still remember the names of my DI's. Senior DI SSgt Batista, DI Sgt Barksdale, and DI SGt Ridder. i can see their and hear their voices. That's when shit got real! haha

Right? Perhaps the drill instructors will make you dump all your shit in the middle of the squad bay and pour smell good and Listerine all over it--and just when you think hell couldn't be any worse, daddy will drop in to say hi, squared the fuck away with black belt and creases (the way he sleeps) and go weapons hot on those fucking drill instructors for being disrespectful.
I remember 4th of July weekend. I remember hitting the rack at 9 and fire works going off. Some dud was crying! You miss everything when you are in bootcamp!
If you are unable to pass the IST, the recruiter isn't supposed to send you, but they still do sometimes. When I was there in '97, there was a special platoon for IST fails called PCP (physical conditioning platoon) where you will stay and work out almost every day until you can pass the IST. Believe me, between PCP and the training platoon, they will get you there. The physical part will be worked out both though exercise and special nutritional meals (I had those and they were still good).
Black Friday, aboard MCRD Parris Island, SC, was, beyond a shadow of a doubt, the SINGLE WORST day of my life-before or since. It was the loudest, longest, strangest, most grueling experience I'd had up to that point in my life...Nearly twenty years have passed and I still remember every detail-most importantly the EGA Ceremony after completing BWT and the Crucible and being called a Marine for the first time. BEST DAY EVER and WORTH EVERY MINUTE! SEMPER FI!

Good Ol' Forming Day 1...Will never forget this Day as My Senior went back into the DI Hut and our 4 Green Belts went Nutz Throwing Footlockers and Introducing us to the Corps...The Quarterdeck and Pit Session didn't get Introduced until 2 Days Later and then once Training Day 1 Commenced Pain was Placed in our Bodies Real Nice! 1999 was long ago and I'm blessed I went into the Corps.
I think what transpires right after that ceremony is more verbal assault than abuse. The fates of a lot of men in my platoon were decided in the first 20 minutes. That shit was brutal.

SDI SSGT JACKSON!! Platoon 2156 of Golf Company, if I recall right, i was on the left side of the space. His favorite words to us were " You're either gonna be smart and disciplined, or fast and strong." Boot camp sucked, but the memories will last me a lifetime. And also his marching cadence was unmatchable.

Yes. When the time for swim qual comes, their are instructors there to help teach you how to swim. There are multiple chances to pass so don't worry if you don't make it the first time.
Not sure where you went through, but we were screamed at, intimidated, and everything else right from the second the receiving DI stepped on the bus and "informed" us that we needed to get off his buss and on to the little yellow footprints. That was in '97. That started on day one for our Company. We were never quaterdecked or pitted, but we certainly knew we were in boot camp right from Receiving.
As far as the verbal abuse comments go, it happens. Don't be mislead, though. They DO show the recruits respect. Not always in words. I forgot a lot about how the drill instructors were in boot camp. I will NEVER forget that they gave the 100% at all times that they ask of their recruits. You see that they're going through it right with you. What they do, you do.. There are few exceptions. Those exceptions are not really exceptions because they did boot camp and DI school before you.
Holy shit, I remember this day like it was yesterday. Bald heads, screaming, running everywhere... And the quarterdeck had a pool of sweat that everyone would be slipping on haha
miss those days lol 1st battalion Alpha Company Platoon 1029 "Nasty Boyz". We couldn't march worth a damn( took us 3 tries to make initial drill lol) but we made up for it in fighting spirit. I still have my ditty bag(now a war bag) and my green monster from when I graduated in 1996 lol
I had 5. Because we were ALL from California, and ALL from the LA area. They knew there would be extra hell. We also lost 3 of them to court martial because they beat the living day lights out of some of the kids. That was old school. Not better, just different. Good luck. I do miss it. they say the same thing in the army within a couple hours you realize that it was total bs
Trololololol
My time it was the slaps and punches that made obeying instinctive
It simply means they won’t be harassed because of their race, religion, etc.
Tomislav Kraljic .. yeah.. when the senior drill instructor isn’t around, shit gets real.
off went the camera and all hell broke loose.....

same thing I experience d at Mike company 3rd battalion on parris island!!!

My drill instructor love to take us to go play in the sand in front the squad bay we build sand castles
aww, the good part was just about to start at the end
Right?!?!?!
Errrrr
Bruh foot lockers were about to go flying
My kill hat made me do a weird bending position that made me cry after the speech lmao . he never let me forget he made me cry first day
