How to Cook a Whole Turkey in the Slow Cooker~Easy Cooking

  • In this easy cooking video, I cook a whole turkey in my crock pot, or slow cooker. I seasoned the turkey, inside and out, with Kinder's Mild BBQ Rub, and then cooked it on low for 8 hours, until the internal temperature of the breast reached 165 degrees F. I didn't add any liquid to the crockpot.

    Never defrost a turkey sitting out on counter. If you need a fast defrost, cover with cold water in your sink, NOT HOT, AND REPLACE the cold water every 30 minutes until defrosted. Dangerous to consume meat sitting out on a counter for more than 3 hours. Don't use the plastic thermometer that comes with the turkey as they are programmed for 185F which is too long. Use a progessional thermometer and the turkey is ready to rest at 165F

    If your Turkey or chicken doesn't fit you can alway debone it. Basically cut the back bone out like you would when you butterfly a chicken for the grill. And you can save what ever you cut out in the freezer to add to whatever you use to make bone broth.

    Low and slow is the way to go. The problem with those popup thingies is when it say its done, then it is over done. I usually put it breast side down to allow it to cook in its own juices and it seems to be a lot less dry in my prospective. I am a leg and thigh fan when it comes to turkey.

    You can cut legs and other parts off if necessary to cook later. Easier to let thaw out in refrigerator a day or two. You can pan fry skin to get it browner.

  • @TURTLEORIGINAL
    @TURTLEORIGINAL 10 หลายเดือนก่อน

    I’ve done many turkeys in my 10 quart slow cooker. However, there are certain steps that make it more delicious and enjoyable. I always thaw in my refrigerator first. Then I preheat my oven to 425 degrees Fahrenheit, and set the thetemperature on crockpot on high for at least half hour, with 1/2 stock or water, and place lid on to preheat . I put my premade rub over and inside the cavity, and inject my premade flavored brine and spice solution, made the night before, in various places. I then, place the turkey, uncovered, in the oven to brown the skin, for half hour. If you skip this step, (as I could clearly see you did), it will most likely be underwhelming and bland. Word of Caution: I always cooked my turkeys, until they had an internal temperature of 175 degrees Fahrenheit. This fully guarantees your turkey is cooked 100% through! Trust me, the turkey with be delicious and moist, most importantly, safe to eat. I’m sorry sir, but your turkey needed more time, probably 2 more hours to cook. That red button, isn’t always guaranteed to pop up, but I never had a turkey that had a button that didn’t pop. Those turkey legs should have literally fell off, or came off, when you pulled slightly. Yours did not. Always use your meat thermometer in 3 deep separate areas of the turkey. If you only go an inch and hit bone, do it over. One last thing I suggest; once you’ve checked your turkey and are satisfied with its temperature and level of doneness, put the lid back on tightly, lower to warm setting, and leave it on the crock pot for one hour to rest. Oh, I forgot to mention: You absolutely must make sure your turkey is 100% thawed, or you risk issues with bacteria growth, that cannot be cooked out.

    Sharpen your kitchen knives! A good chef's knife should be able to cut though a tough joint in 3 passes or less if it's properly sharp. A knife that's not sharp you have to finagle with more than you should, risking injury. A sharp knife is safer. Get 'em ready for this next holiday!
