Palin is physically attractive without any doubt, however she is indeed bereft of any charisma. Thatcher was a somewhat intelligent woman; Palin could not be afforded such a description. The most accurate description of Palin I have ever heard was written by Hitchens, when he describes her as: "a deceiving and unscrupulous woman utterly unversed in any of the needful political discourses but easily trained to utter preposterous lies and to appeal to the basest element of her audience".

“It must be noon fairly soon I feel?” I don’t think the interviewer picked up the very slight double meaning here which is British for “I’m bored, we must start drinking soon?”
Thatcher's politics aside she is a smart, capable woman with massive amounts of personality and strength. She's very traditional and proper as well. These trait make her instantly attractive, at least from a character viewpoint. I am a conservative but don't rate Palin highly - she's not very well educated it seems. And she doesn't have the force of personality of Thatcher. Few American women do have Thatcher's strength, wit or style...few British women do either!
So Hitch loves Thatcher who opposes a united germany but Hitch was also a great supporter of a united Gemrany. As I grow up I realize how strange this guys ethics are. Still admire him though.
When she was in power I was too young to properly appreciate what she meant in terms of politics but now I'm much older I can see just how unfair and divisive her policies really were. Even now in parts of Northern England the economic effects of her policies are still felt.
Yes indeed, Thatcher destroyed whole communities. But let's be honest, even Alexi Sayle has reflected and condemned the dictatorial attitude of the TUC : their arrogance and self-importance, the boring speeches broadcast live to the nation. Everyone was pleased to see an end to that. (And I'm a former SWP member)
I like Palin, but I would NOT want to see her debate Hitchens. The best I can say here is that she would do every bit as well as Obama. I would love to debate Chris, but I would have to bring a dictionary.... there is a lot of Bill Buckley in that boy.

I think Sarah Palin's introductory speech at the Republican Convention was full of charisma; and it was nice to see a real free-market advocate next to McCain. But after that she just fell apart...not sure what it was.
