Yeah at least half of those settings have literally zero impact on PS3 games. The PS settings are for PS1 games and the video settings are for videos. The rest are just common sense related to monitor/tv selection and should be set by default.
Well, since it does have a video card the output is the one that actually changes something, is the same change in fps you see in a pc game when you chnage between 1080p resolution and 720p resolution. I don't think the output resolution and outputed always as 1080p and downscaled but I can be wrong. So much hate and no info in the comments

Can confirm these settings are super helpful and helped lessen my terrible fps/screen tearing on my super slim in 2022! Honestly lots of games were performing great but a select few like Medal of Honor Airborne. I played the game on both 360 and PS3 and I can agree sadly that the 360 version ran much smoother then this. Anyway the screen tearing and fps drops went down after these changes in the settings, I like to keep the resolution at 1080p since 80% of my games work perfectly fine with it but I’m sure 720p would also really help with performance too!
360 has more power ps3 just offers more in terms

I solved it by turning off the PS3 Media Server.
1- Go to Settings
2-Select Network Settings
3- Select Media Server Connection and choose the Disable option.

Most of those settings are unrelated and have to do with DVD/bluray playback, the main key here is that some games on the PS3 will render at 720p, instead of 1080i or 1080p when those modes are selected and because of that if that title has slow-down when trying to exceed 720p, forcing the games to instead run in their 720p mode instead can improve performance.
I Can confirm but for what I know if you run a ps3 games that run only in 720p the screen resolution of xmb and the game change to 720p, even my monitor recognize the 720p signal so there is no power loose... Maybe some games are broke but I think this option only improve the 1080p games that will run in 720p instead.

@@Badr_18 no, sorry but my English was bad.. I meant that if you run a 720p only game on a "1080p ps3" the console will change his internal resolution to 720p... So if you set 1080p or 720p on the settings it wouldn't change anything (that work with 1080p games, change the resolution to 720p will improve stability)

Does the game not support it, or is there a problem? And if the 1080 option does not affect the game, then if I change it, will there be a difference in quality or frames?

Guys for your own good, don't follow this tutorial. Frame rate issues have nothing to do with the consoles. It has to do with the optimization of the games. If a game is very glitchy and low fps, that means the developers hadn't optimized it well enough. The ps3 is very powerful and naughty dog proved that

If you have a spare computer monitor with an HDMI output, use it. It helped my framerates about 40%.
Now i can return to my daily routine of breaking gta v speedrun world record without any hit in less than an hour after 6 years of stopping it🔥🔥🔥

1.) Half these Settings do nothing for you...
A. PS Upscaler & Smoothing are only for older Games, they don't do anything in PS3 & PSN Games...
B. 1080P Output 24Hz only effects BD / DVD Movies,
it does nothing for Gaming
C. Deep Color wasn't utilized till 4K came out,
it was only Supported by a few 1080P TV's,
so there is no reason to have this on, unless
you have a 4K TV Supporting this...
D. Your other Settings you Changed do
effect Games, so maybe they Eliminated
the lag for you in your Games, oO

2024 these tricks do help. Came here to help with replaying fallout 3 and nv. After clearing out storage and memory caches. Now with only 3 games on the console. I did these setting tricks and rebuilt the data base. Unbelievale improvement on fallout feels wayyy smoother wish i knew this back in 2009

I'm getting Platinum trophy on all God of war Games on Playstation 3 in 2023, I was playing with default settings, I was getting about 10 fps on God of war Ascension, pretty much unplayable, with those settings, the game runs better! Thanks for this, it really does work!

I'm here trying to find a way to fix my frame rate problems for Fallout 3, The game becomes damn near unplayable sometimes just out of nowhere and I'm fucking sick of it. I want to play and finish that game so bad.
Late comment but any Fallout game on PS3 eventually locks up. 360 doesn't, it's to do with memory.

Absolutely useless and misleading video. None of these settings will have any affect on performance aside from lowering the output resolution under Display. Rather than educating people you are just lazily parroting someone barely any more knowledgeable than yourself for a couple of cheap views. MIndlessly telling your audience to choose this or that based on a pure guess and potentially causing them to throw away features that they have spent decent money on through the purchase of their monitor is exactly the type of ethic that brings you to the amazing average of 200~ views per video.
PS Upscaler and PS Smoothing only affect PS1 and PS2 emulated games. The upscaler is for deciding whether you want to utilize the PS3's internal upscaler or your own upscaler either in a television set in a dedicated upscaler, some setups can provide better quality upscaling than the PS3 while others can't handle standard definition content well at all and need to rely on the PS3. Smoothing applies a slight filter that can improve the appearance of the very low resolution textures in these older gen games.
1080p 24 Hz Output determines whether or not you'd like your PS3 to output a 24 Hz signal when compatible video content is played back, like most Blu-Ray movies which are mastered in 24 Hz. Use this if your television set supports downclocking its refresh rate to 24 Hz. This eliminates tearing and reduces overall power draw. No game utilizes this hence why it's in the "video" section, jackass.
Cross Color Reduction Filter is only for reducing artifacts caused by interference in analog set ups which has absolutely zero impact on your performance if you're using HDMI. Otherwise, the performance impact is close to non existent.
Selecting the RGB settings appropriate for your monitor is important for displaying colors correctly and avoiding banding. Most monitors support the full RGB range and again, this has no impact on performance. Deep color support varies. Again, no impact on performance. Research the RGB/color space settings for your monitor and pick the proper settings intelligently unlike this absolute moron.

enjoyit81 Didnt helped in terms of better FPS but I fixed black screen with Hauppauge HD PVR2 using this method. I have doubts that my fps issue is caused by component cables I dont know, but I'm ignoring that and playing even with fps drops.

dsr07mm even though the PlayStation 3 was actually more powerful than the Xbox 360 even though it had that extra power the 360 didn't have it still did not make the PlayStation 3 better than the 360.. The reason for this was because it was so hard for developers to develope games for the PS3 because of the processor that Sony went with for the PlayStation 3 the PlayStation 3 features an 8 cell processor which was actually hard for developers to develop games for the PS3 which resulted in lower frame rates a lower resolution on most games. it was just much easier for developers to make games for the Xbox 360 because of their choice of what processor they went with which was a three core processor which was much easier to develop games for which resulted in higher frame rates and a better resolution. it wasn't until the end of the PS3 life cycle when games actually started to look better but that doesn't mean they ran better it just means they started to look better I mean look at the game like The Last of Us that game looks amazing on the PS3 which was even ported over to PS4.

Plus the ps3 had an expensive CELL CPU that devs found hard to work with. Thats why ps3 exclusives actually look really good but games like GTA run badlt

I know this video is 11 years old, but thanks so much! Some of my games went from unplayable to perfectly fine. For example, Dead rising 2 and Dead Rising 2 Off the Record were hardly running before on my ps3. Now they are running great! I haven't tried all my games yet, but I'm sure the others run great too. Awesome video!

Hmm, I still have frame rate problems playing Saints row 4. When I'm just running normal speed or fighting I run fine, when I am driving or using my super speed and leaping through the air I lag..Now, the super speed and leaping i could understand frame rate lag because well, don't think you can get away with that with no lag due to the speed that the PS has to process the map. But the driving compared to my speed is like a turtle..Any ideas?

I hated going from PS3 the the 360. The 360 had worse frame rates and graphics on the same TV. This both dissapointed me and confused me as fanboys had assured me the 360 was better.

FYI, the PS upscaler and PS smoothing only applies to PS1 games which you are playing through your PS3, so I can't really see them having any effect on a game like BOps whatsoever. But then again, I've never had any issues with frame rates playing BOps on my PS3. :)

Even though the PlayStation 3 was more powerful then the Xbox 360, Xbox 360 games just so happened to look better and normally played with better frame rates and a higher resolution. the reason why most games on the PlayStation 3 didn't look so good and didn't play so smooth was because of the processor that Sony decided to put in the PlayStation 3 which made it difficult for developers to develope games for the PS3. That PlayStation 3 did have an 8 cell processor which did make it more powerful than the Xbox 360 but was difficult to develop for. Which led into games with lower frame rates a lower resolution on the PS3. It wasn't really until the end of the PlayStation 3 cycle when Developers we're more recognized with the 8th cell processor that games then started to look a little better towards the end of PS3 life cycle but even then the frame rate still wasn't as good.

The 720p setting alone is what does it, the rest has nothing to do with speeding anything else because it's not calculated by the GPU core that handles the rendering output. Any programmer or graphics engineer will tell you this.
It also depends on your tv, some larger tvs will have significant frame rate lag.

This didn't exactly help. I plat GTA V and when I drove around I would get really rough and low FPS. After I did this, it only gained about 5-10 FPS but it's still pretty rough.

Good tips however if someone plays on 720p while their monitor is native 1080p, there will be more input lag rather than frame rate drops. Keep in mind!
Depends if the monitor is trying to upscale the image or not, you can normally turn off post-processing on most monitors. Having really low FPS will throw off your input anyway though so I couldn't say one is necessarily better than the other.
