Great video! Well done. I have a '15 YZ125, and couldn't agree more about the fun factor. Being 49 myself, it's all about the weekend smiles before heading back to work Monday. Glad to hear the smart carb is working out. I'm considering putting one on mine, but they sure are proud of them. Also been on the fence with a flywheel weight. I ride mainly faster single track, but do some moto as well, so I go back and forth on whether to get one or not. Oh, and really dig the yellow touches. I would have never thought of putting a yellow rear fender on with the blue plastics, but I have to say, it works! Keep up the good work.
I put a flywheel weight on my 17 YZ 125. It lugs much much better, and lengthened the low to mid power band hit. All stock otherwise. It’s a great bike. Enjoy.
Ok i am sold on the smart carb!! Because i will be going to the track which is at 1300 feeg to my placd in the mtns at 4500 feet!! So the smart carb would be my best bet!!! And i could see the difference in the way it ran with the smart carb!!
LoveFirstWorld - Nice bike build, and thanks for the vid. You gained a subscriber. Vince - I am 6'2" and weighed 215 lbs last year (but dropped 35 lbs since last Fall) and really enjoyed riding my new YZ125X last year. My first ever two stroke took a few rides to get used to, but I love it now. Light, easy to ride and zippy.
Doing another build on the bike now. Hopefully new video in the next few months or so. Putting a 167 kit on the engine. Engine should be back in the next few weeks. Hopefully see you out there!! Thx for watching!!😎👍🏻
Thanks for the video I changed the rear sprocket right away from a 50 to a 48 and what a big difference there is no top end with that 50 at all as well as the mid range I don't understand these guys putting a bigger sprocket on the rear unless you are in really tight woods but even so I could ride mine with a 48 in the back in the woods 48 is the best all-around I'm perfectly happy with mine I haven't done anything but changed out the silencer put a FMF I kept the stock pipe because Yamaha makes an excellent pipe I did my research and did all the reviews had the stock carb jetted by the shop I bought it from it's a 2020 it was used but hardly had been ridden thanks again for the video
Ok i set mine up with a pro circuit combo, a vforce reed,90z fly wheel waight, smartcarb, and went to a 52 in the back. Because of wers i ride in the mtns and the power is evenly all the way through with out have to be on the power band all the time, but they did change some from your your to mine. Barkbusters rock!! I will fell you in on mine more my asv levers are sweet. I followed pretty mush everything to what you did.. thanks for all your help!! What donyou run for mix! The only thing i have left to do is the apex head and water pump. I will change the clutch when this one goescto poop.
I have been woundering what to use as a fuel mixture?? What do you suggest?? I thought it was spring, lol I would be out riding but snow!! Yes snow..lol Have a greatday, I was just wondering because of my SC2 Gets shipped out thei week and I was only going to 32 to one with the factory carb and breaking it in then change it. Have a greatday!
Nice video man although after selling my 19 250tpi it's made my decision a little more difficult just can't decide between the yz250 and yz125 I've owned both before my riding style favours the 250 but those 125s really do put a smile on your face.
They're so much fun!! The weight and handling is excellent!! We're doing another build on it soon... Sent the engine off... It will return as a 167cc. They tell me it'll eat any 250F's lunch... We'll see!! Stay tuned!!
@@LoveFirstWorld I'm in it for the smile factor too I'm looking forward to finding a stock bike whatever I choose I'm just going enjoy building it as an ex mechanic it's as much fun watching it come to life as riding it. Look forward to the build I'm just a die hard 2 stroke fan and as good as the tpi I owned was it just wasn't a proper 2 stroke in my eyes carbs and cables all the way bud.
Ok just bought the SC2...so now it is almosr complete with up gradand that is the water pump and apex head!! With the pro Circuit pipe and vforce 4 reed and going up to 52 sprocket on the back will help with my riding..and now the smartcarb should tame it down with even power all the way through and the 6 gear transmission will be slick!!
@@robw3761 for you! I live in the mtns and it is tight and step terrain and trail riding so that is why I went that route.. plus at 62 I do not need to go fast..lol.
Awesome!! Thanks for watching!! It's such a fun bike and we're doing a rebuild soon. Sent the engine off to now be a 167... Should be epic!!!! Stay tuned!!
Yes. I had to go up on the spring rate. The rates are on their website. You can put in your weight and riding style and it will choose the correct one for you. Worked great!! Thanks for watching!!
I haven't owned a 125 since the 80's. Thinking about doing a similar YZ build but I'm 5'11" around 215-220 lbs without gear and wondering if the bike will handle my weight, power wise. What is your weight?
Hi I have apex head and it's great thinking to get smart carb after watching your video. How is the fuel economy improvement with smartcarb? is the boyeesen water pump made a difference?
I'm not sure on the fuel economy side, it had a Lectron on it when I got it so can't compare it to stock carb. I can easily get 40ish miles out of a tank even pushing it a bit. The water pump I'm sure helps with the temps but it never overheated prior to putting it on and you don't really notice anything after it's on. But I've had it in some pretty hard conditions and it performed flawlessly. Thanks for watching!!
On your ASV levers..what was the model number and serial number?? I seem not to be able to get a matching set in Yamaha blue or di they cime separate?? Thank you!
I am finally picking mine up!! Biden and his crap made it a night mare to get one!! I put a pro circuit set on it vforce 4 reed, pro taper grips acerbis skid plate and front disc brake protector acerbis frame protectors polisport swing arm protectors pro taper grips barkbusters hand guards same levers as you..and next month the smart carb!! Then i am going to get the same waterpump you have an head and getting a 7 oncs or 8..fly wheel and after 5he new clutch is done upgrading it to to recluse.?can can not wait!!
I been watching that carb too..i seen otherf people say the samething..they went to the smart carb and after adjusting it was supposed to run z lot better!!
Hmmmm... Love the KDX but 2 totally different bikes for sure. The newer YZ ergos are much better for attach position standing and the overall handling is much better on the YZ. However the bottom end is substantially more on the KDX of course, you have to ride the 125 much harder and keep it in the pipe, whereas the KDX you can just blurp around like a 4 stroke. Any more questions let me know!! Thanks for watching!!
@@paddlegirl I’m running a 48 tooth instead of the 50. 50 was a bit slow for me. 48 works excellent. The tires are great and it handles amazing. The bike stays in rutted lines way easier than most bikes. I love it!!❤️👍🏻
Nice build and really good video! Wondering what would make a bigger difference for improving low end, the apex xc head or the smart carb? I'm picking up my '22 YZ125X this week.
Sincerely appreciate that!! I would say being that yours is brand new and you want to choose between the 2. I'd go with the Apex head first. Then later ad in the Smart Carb. And the Apex head is quite a bit cheaper than a Smart Carb so big savings for now. Thanks for watching!!
I started with a 48 on the rear and liked it. But we do a race or 2 in some hills and it just wasn't enough so I went one tooth up to a 49 and seems to be perfect!! Thanks for watching!!
61 and love the fumes of 2 strokes in the morning!!
ABSOLUTELY!!!

Nice!! I’m 40:1. I’ve used pre-mixed VP and currently I’m using Klotz fuel and mixing it 40:1. No issues at all.

They had to trim some stuff off to get theres to work did you have to do the same!!
Nope. Fit just fine. It's tight, but it fits...
