I first saw Stanley Clarke playing an Alembic in the 70s. He also had these special cabinets with these round speakers. Just sounded amazing. The crispness and clarity of that Alembic is incredible. There is no other bass like it.
Amen Johnny! You are absolutely right the power of prayer will mend, sad thing is that there is a lot of non believers out there, have a blessed day my friend 🙏
Johnny love you man ! I got idea bro put down some pavers in that little spot bro and do a mini series right there when you can man ,maybe a few mini concerts with some of your fellow musicians put the pavers down keep that dust off ya stuff ! Awesome 👏 playing
Love it! + always like seeing a vintage Alembic bass. I owned/played their '87 'Spoiler' model for over 25 years. You demonstrated the wide voicing options with the active electronics. Wonderfully played. Love your heart too. I'm still groovin' after the music stopped. ;-D
That bass is a work of art and so is your beautiful setting there with the lovely bench, the reds of the flowers, the speaker cabinet and your bow tie setting the scene off, a sharp dressed visual and sonic treat. Just beautiful man, incredible artistry, you're the best! Love and best wishes from lockdown London UK
Yeah! ..the Alembic Bass IS THE ICONIC Bass of all time! Every Bassist alive wants a chance to at least play one if not the $$$$ to own one!1 (or two!!) 😆🎵👌🏾(I settled for an ‘81 Ibanez Musician 924!,..💰close as I could get!😒) On that note,..☝🏾There ARE Trillions of Bassists that CAN & DO play as well or better!..So,..don’t be discouraged or disappointed in yourselves‼️Keep Going!..Johnny is good people!,..I’m sure he’d say the same! Damn❗️🤣 if that Alembic Bass didn’t sound ✨🎸🎵🔊🔊✨the Sh#%*t‼️Huh🤘🏾💕🤨😒😏
Alembics are the steam punk of basses - they have that strange classy industrial/victorian era look.....I love how when the jam pauses, the legs are still a hopping :D Great jam!!
My dear friend, the controls are Vol. Vol., Q switch for each pickup, low pass filters for each pickup, and a 4 position pickup selector. Thank you for the Alembic Concert! Peace to you and the Hobo Depot ❤️👍
"Thank you for lettin me touch your bass" How often do you hear that from another man?? LOL! "Alembic bass: "BLUSH"!! We all (meaning us bass players who are in the know) wish we could own one of these, I especially like the ones made for John Entwistle,... his matching Explorer shaped with the spider webs!! Brilliant! I am looking forward to the Vintage guitar shows coming back to Calif!!
Great player, and a great example of why I prefer a clean, non-distorted bass tone. I'm a guitarist and I used to play in hard rock/metal bands in the 80 and early 90s in L.A., and a trend I could not stand was distorted bass. This seemed to start in thrash and move to metal/hard rock. While I think it's okay as a sound effect now and then, as a standard tone it drowns out so much of what the bass offers, its natural harmonic overtones. I love this sort of playing, and how just switching pickups or a roll of a tone knob can change a bass tone so radically. This player sure knows how to work the bass. Brilliant.
Hey man, I love your aesthetic. Its very nice to see you being your authentic self being excited having so much fun. I too am anticipating a new guitar. A 6-string Gibson gold-top and I am just as excited as you're!!! I love bass as well though but i'm not ready to make a leap into a high-end instrument until im better at bass. My Sterling Ray4 will serve me until than. Thanks Johnny ~TJB
Greetings Mr Long Sir. I have a question. I'm curious about those Big Boom Bass cabs. Bully Tha Kid says they are no joke. I'm running a 2000 watt Carvin head, and I want a powerful yet lightweight cab. Would you recommend them?? Thanks. PS love your channel. I'm always in a good mood after I watch your vids
Nobody works on my rigs...but I'd beg this guy to set up any of my basses. What a quality person. Thank you for sharing this video, your talents and the planet with the rest of us!

I freakin' love that tone. That bass looks was cool. Is the action low on that? SWR = Oh heck yeah! I don't even think they make SWR anymore. I used to have a Goliath speaker cab. So punchy. I got an Eden rig to emulate the SWR sound.
The amazing tone of an Alembic!!! Incredible playing and a great-looking bass!!!
The words of Victor Wooten: “You know how to Funk That Bass!”
